Disney built its business plan on breaking through in China, but despite non-stop pandering to the Communist regime, it didn’t work out. Hollywood studios which had come to depend on the Chinese box office were cut out. Xi has tightened the screws on foreign movies, games and culture in general. But one movie is okay.
Alex Garland’s Civil War has been set for a June 7 theatrical release date in China. This marks the first time an A24 production will officially hit cinemas there. The dystopian thriller was acquired by Huahua Media in the market with Alibaba set to partner on the local release.
What would be the appeal of this movie to Chinese audiences in which Americans fight a civil war and then execute the president?
It’s a real mystery.
China ruthlessly censors any suggestion that its regime might be unstable to the point that it used to ban time travel movies because they implied that someone could go back in time and stop the regime. They love the idea of ‘Civil War’ for obvious reasons. It’s anti-American propaganda made in America.
Hollywood has long steered clear of any negative depictions of the Chinese Communist regime, but it also knows that making movies bashing America will sell in China. Is this treason? At best it’s treason-adjacent.

Yeah, ChiCom propaganda made in China is never believable.

The joke may be on the ChiCom regime. What if their people see it as an inspiration?

Yes, that is what actually happened, as I understand it, in Italy, when Mussolini saw the old B&W version of Ayn Rand’s “We The Living,” which was critical of totalitarian Russian life in the 20s. The movie was an Italian production, and, at first, Mussolini approved. Then he thought, “Wait a minute.–people might think this film is about me!” and had it pulled from the theaters.

Then we immediately have another wuhan leak plandemic. Those Hong Kong riots were getting out of hand in 2019..

“treason-adjacent” … Yes. I’ll have to steal that one.

Whoa, it posted without moderation?
What went wrong?

“Borderline treason” is another phrase that comes to mind.

I wouldn’t pay to see it, but I think this movie will probably be unintentionally funny. I saw a still from it, with some people in black body armor with “PRESS” on it in big white letters. I was thinking that would be a bad idea, because they’d be catching ‘stray’ rounds from both sides.
I saw the “Three Body Problem,” recently and was surprised at the realistic and unflattering portrayal of Red China during the Cultural Revolution. I wondered how that happened, but didn’t look into it.

If treason is giving and comfort to the enemy, I am comfortable labelling this treason. Mr. Greenfield’s other article today, “Biden Sends Condolences to Murderer of Americans” is treasonous, also.
Maybe FPM needs a new category called “Treason” to add to “Disloyal Military” and “The Neo-Nazi Left.”
Daniel Greenfield says
I’m good with it

The two shock jocks that took Rushs’ 3 hours praise the movie. Haven’t seen it but anything the commie chinese like has to be treason.

Liberal left Directors like Michal Moore and Oliver Stone come into mind and there are others like them

Globalist want ‘civil unrest’ in America. They see it as a chance to bring in ‘U.N. Peacekeepers’ to DISARM the country. That is their goal. Once they’ve succeeded in disarming the country, they can destroy their enemies. Globalist want power. They want to control everyone and everything. Once they’re in power, the light of freedom will be extinguished all over the world. That’s the truth. Feel free to share this with EVERYONE on the planet.
FREEDOM OR SLAVERY? THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

Hope they come with their high visibility light blue helmets. They’ll sell great as souvenirs, once they’re decorated with a hole.

Sometimes I miss the good old days when all China made were cheap toys that broke on Christmas day. Yeah, I know, those days are long gone.

Little did we know. In the 1960s the economy was looking so bleak for imports to SF Bay that we were able to get a bunch of shoreline property cheap and turn it into a shoreline park. Now the import economy for cars from Asia and cheap junk from China is so hot that watching cargo container ships coming in across the bay was one of my favorite pastimes, and investors are trying to find a way to take over the parkland and use it for offloading cargo.
