The usual D.C. response to government failures is to call for more money. This time it’s for the Secret Service.
There’s now a back-and-forth between congressional Republicans and Democrats over Secret Service funding. The Dems and the media are playing the usual Catch-22 game. Either Republicans increase spending or the Dems and the media can blame them for the next Trump assassination attempt.
Does the Secret Service actually need more money? It has a $3 billion budget. That’s around double what it was in 2000.
Only about $1.2 billion of that goes to protective operations and only about $73 million gets spent on providing security at presidential campaigns. $138 million gets spent on training and professional development.
By way of comparison, $3 billion is around the LAPD budget. And while there are obvious differences between the duties and areas of operations for the LAPD and the Secret Service, the LAPD has more personnel and covers a wider territory and deals with deadlier threats. It also has a better performance record than the Secret Service.
The two Trump assassination attempts came so close because the Secret Service failed to actually closely monitor the scene allowing the two killers plenty of time to set up. More money is not fixing this problem.
Firing the head of the SS would be a good start. That politician broad who was appointed the head with NO law enforcement or protection experience retired – no doubt with a pension and full benefits – but this new guy is a blatant liar who covers for SS failure. Assuming it is failure and not outright treason.
“The Secret Service Has a $3B Budget. It Doesn’t Need More Money.” Correct. It is not lack of money that is the problem. It is the same problem that permeates every agency in the federal government….lack of accountability. How do you fix that? First, you get rid of the Senior Executive Service (SES). These are senior ranking career federal employees making hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in salary, bonuses, perks, & benefits…AND the SES has been politicized in favor of the Democrat party for decades. This SES did not exist until the 1970s and it should be abolished now. Secondly, Congress must update the civil service regulations which are outmoded and contribute to government inefficiency & lack of accountability. It is practically impossible to fire a federal employee. The federal government is loaded with tens of thousands of employees that should be fired for misbehavior, failure to perform their jobs, and lack of professionalism. Lastly, get the labor unions out of the federal workplace where they impede management decision making and employee performance.
They don’t need more money they need better agents and not Nursing Mothers who should be home
Why would competent agents want to work for tyrannical government?
That’s usually reserved for the vulgarians.
The Dem Establishment and Obama-Biden regime / DoJ/FBI / USSS are all out to get Trump.
Since ALIVE (plan A) has not worked, so now they are on plan B (BURIED).
