In 1962, composer Irving Berlin debuted his final musical, “Mr. President.” The show has a silly little song that contains the lyric “the Secret Service makes me nervous.”
I thought of that song after the real Secret Service failed to protect former President Donald Trump at a rally three weeks ago in Butler, Pennsylvania. The bureaucracy seems to be putting more effort into protecting agency management than it did Trump.
We’ve heard the reports of how the shooter, Thomas Crooks, was spotted by some rallygoers as much as 90 minutes before he fired eight rounds, wounding Trump and two others and killing retired fire chief Corey Comperatore. A Secret Service sniper, the first to be deployed at these rallies, shot and killed Crooks. The familiar blame game started soon after.
Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned after a poor performance before the House Oversight Committee during which she revealed little to nothing about the incident. Acting director Ronald Rowe Jr. acknowledged the agency failed in its mission to fully protect Trump, but blamed local law enforcement while revealing no information about the progress of the investigation. Local police pushed back at allegations they were at fault for the security breakdown.
Rowe and FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate testified last week before a joint hearing of the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security committees. Rowe said agents were not aware of the presence of a man on the roof of the AGR building until he began firing his weapon. He also admitted the responsibility for the security breakdown at the former president’s rally ultimately rests with the Secret Service.
Asked by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) whether anyone at the agency has been fired, Rowe reverted to the standard bureaucratic shuffle that the investigation is continuing and he didn’t want to take any action that might cause harm to an innocent person. Senators from both parties were outraged at his response as they should have been. They also expressed shock that Crooks flew a drone over the area on the day of the shooting and apparently no one thought it unusual.
The video recorded by a rally attendee who was sitting behind Trump shows Crooks making his way across the roof of the building to a position where he would have a clear shot. Earlier, several rallygoers shouted at police that someone was on the roof, but neither the Secret Service nor local law enforcement responded. One officer said he started to climb up on the roof but when Crooks pointed his weapon at him he retreated. Various people blamed a breakdown in communication between the Secret Service and local police. It makes one long for the days of walkie talkies.
Some in Congress and conservative media are suggesting the Biden administration’s emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) may have lowered standards for applicants to the Secret Service. A look at the agency’s website might give credence to that argument. It lists various categories for recruitment and includes outreach to African American, Pacific Islander, Hispanic, Indigenous Nations, Federal Womens Program (FWP), LGBTQ, Persons with Disabilities/Disabled Veteran, Office of the Ombudsman, and Inclusion and Engagement Council, but mentions nothing about merit.
Three years ago The Washington Post reported: ” The morale of Uniformed Division (UD) officers, who guard the White House, is so bad that a new study by a National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) panel said job satisfaction and employee engagement are at a ‘concerning level of risk’ related to a ‘crisis in UD work-life balance.'”
NBC News recently reported: “Former Secret Service officials say it can be difficult to get experienced agents to remain on the job.”
It’s enough to make us all nervous.

E-mails are being scrubbed and/or deleted just like these hate-America 1st’ers did to the Jan 6th communications (lost during a “data transfer”. Whoops!)
The SS truncated Trump’s protection as much as possible, put unexperienced 2nd stringers on his detail, and left obvious advantage points (water tower, etc) unmanned.
It not a stretch, especially after other documented set-ups (fake bombs mailed to themselves, Witmer “kidnapping” entrapment, Jan 6th, etc) that the FBI and/or SS leadership found out about Crooks. But instead of arresting him, they used him as a patsy, allowing him a jaw-dropping amount of leeway to pull it off.
Many leftist tiktokers, and *Biden hierarchy (Wray, Jill, Cheatle, etc) lamented that Crooks missed.
If the press were not in full clean up mode, they’d be actually worried about it.

I swear, this incompetent woman looks like Alice Cooper without the makeup. But her replacement may be worse.
DJT better have his own people protecting him.

“Crooks, was spotted by some rally goers as much as 90 minutes before”, but the Secret Service “agents were not aware of the presence of a man on the roof” despite half the crowd yelling at agents about a possible assassin. What do they know? They’re Trump supporters.
As for the “shock that Crooks flew a drone over the area on the day of the shooting” the SS knew it wasn’t one of theirs because they refused the offer of any and all drones for their own use.
And what about “Various people blamed a breakdown in communication”? We’ll never know about that because the Secret “Service” erased all records of their communications for that day. Well, that’s “secret”.
And now within a month everybody’s forgotten the whole thing and moved on to Timmy “Tampons” Walz. You’ve heard the “Blue Danube Waltz”.
Timmy’s the “Blue Falcon Walz”. You’d think he was the one who took a bullet for his country, and not Trump.

Not even the Babylon Bee could weave up a sory f such high level incompeence, corruption, negligence, distraction, perfidy and, yes I WILL say it, treason.
It is almost as if the Secret Service WANTED him ded raght thar.

Why was this the first time a “Secret Service anti-sniper” was assigned to a President Trump rally? If it is the first time, what did the Secret Service know before the event that a “Secret Service anti-sniper” was assigned to the Security Detail? Such additions to or subtractions from the security detail complement are either justified by pre-event intelligence or, in the absence of such pre-event intelligence, highly and obviously suspicious.

You know that a government agency that has to police and be martial is in a bureaucratic sewage-quandry when one of the arguments for keeping the incompetent, Cover-Your-A– chief of the agency is that if you fire her someone MORE incompetent MAY result.
I have epilepsy; I am disabled. I can’t do things or be prepared the way the average person can. I have nothing against disabled people, but the reason we call them “disabled” is because, well…THEY ARE DISABLED. Why is that considered a feature? Nowadays, it seems like it’s more important to hire in a politically correct manner than to be able to do the job once you are hired.
Because of their physical or mental limitations a disabled person may indeed be able to do the work of someone who isn’t disabled when there is a non-emergency situation- but the military- and police services (like the Secret Service)- are suppose to protect not only in non-emergency situations but also in emergency situations.
No wonder the morale, as Thomas points out, is so low at the SS-with DEI and woke standards being more important than merit, everyone in the SS or military or police aren’t sure if their comrades-even though they may want to-CAN cover their backs. The Secret Service men and women will be so busy protecting themselves they won’t be able to protect who they were hired to protect.
The DEI mentality of hiring the incompetent doesn’t mean we are sweeter but rather that we are more stupid. I still astounds me that the Secret Service advertises for disabled people. Such a thing is a symbol of our decay not of our compassion.
