Democrats and their media and activists (but I repeat myself) keep claiming that there was a double standard in the way that police handled the BLM protests and the Capitol Hill protests.
“When Black folks are protesting and progressives are protesting peacefully they were tear-gassed, they were arrested, they were shot with rubber bullets. They were shot with real bullets,” NAACP President Derrick Johnson falsely claimed. “We watched it take place all summer long when people were peacefully demonstrating.”
Peacefully? Would those be the peaceful protests that injured over 400 police officers, left over $2 billion in damages, and killed, among others, an 8-year-old girl.
The media is full of this stuff.
‘Double standard’: Black lawmakers and activists decry police response to attack on US Capitol – USA Today
Police treated Black Lives Matter protesters and the violent pro-Trump mob very differently – Quartz
‘A Tale of 2 Americas’: Comparing Tepid Response to Capitol Riots With BLM Protests – NBC
Let’s see. The police fatally shot and killed 1 woman at the Capitol protest. Zero BLM rioters seem to have been shot and killed in D.C.
There were 52 arrests at the Capitol protest. And a total of 612 protest arrests in D.C. from May through November. Most of those would have been arrests of lefties.
While photos and video show fights with police, routine at BLM rallies (largely led by fringe alt-right anti-Trump elements, e,g, Boogaloo Bois, an alt-right group that overlaps with the alt-right and Antifa), and MPD brass claim that chemical sprays were used (also common in alt-right and Antifa clashes), there was no sign of the deadlier weapons used by BLM thugs, e.g. fireworks, lasers, and knives against police. (This doesn’t excuse the alt-right thugs. And it’s a reminder that the only thing they do is bring down the movement for their own accelerationist goals which ultimately help the Left and shut down the conservative movement.)
The Capitol protest, for all that the media has blown it up, was essentially a protest in the building to which there was a huge overreaction. Similar overreactions did not occur to Kavanaugh protests in the building. The worst elements of the protest included some vandalism and an occupation of congressional offices.
Typical leftist tactics glamorized by the 60s.
There were no assaults on lawmakers or House members that have been documented. Nothing even compared to the infamous Flake harassment during the Kavanaugh hearings. The damage itself seems to have been fairly light compared to BLM. The results made for some striking photos, but little actual harm.
And the double standard which I documented in today’s article goes beyond that.
“We want the military, we want troops from out of state out of Washington, D.C.,” Mayor Muriel Bowser had ranted when BLM was attacking national memorials and the White House.
“We will not allow people to incite violence, intimidate our residents or cause destruction in our city,” Bowser now insisted, demanding that the National Guard come out to stop the protests.
Unless they’re Democrats, she failed to mention.
D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine had responded to the Black Lives Matter assault by condemning law enforcement. He had issued a statement falsely accusing President Trump of “responding to nonviolent demonstration with war-like tactics”.
“We —the Mayor, the Council, OAG, and MPD—must commit to standing in between our community and the boot of tyranny. And we must act on this commitment. We must start by promising to defend our residents from harm while they engage in peaceful, nonviolent protest.”
“My level of anxiety is high. My preparation is even more intense than that,” Racine was telling the media before the pro-Trump Save America rally now.
The kind of post-protest crackdown that came down goes well beyond anything that happened after Black Lives Matter besieged the White House and tried setting fire to a church.
That’s the double standard.
