What exactly was Steyer’s path before this?
1. Spend enough money trying to buy black votes in South Carolina?
2. Come in second in South Carolina?
3. Use that momentum to lose everywhere else?
Here’s what $20 million got Tom Steyer?
“Honestly, I can’t see a path where I can win the presidency,” Steyer told supporters Saturday night, while pledging to continue working on his pet issues, including climate change and racial inequality.
He failed to reach the 15% viability level to win delegates in Saturday’s contest in South Carolina, where he had spent more than $20 million, according to an NBC News projection
With more than 50% of the vote in, Steyer had scored nearly 12% of the vote in South Carolina.
That’s $1.6 million per percentage point. He would have had to spend another $5 million. Instead, he got nothing and is dropping out.
But then again Tom Steyer’s only plan to win the presidency was spending a lot of money and Bloomberg has more of it than he does.
