On February 13, Kim Jong-Nam, estranged half-brother of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, was preparing to board a flight at Kuala Lampur airport when two mysterious women sprayed his face with a toxic liquid. Kim Jong-Nam was DOA at the hospital and his DNA would soon become a factor.
“We need a DNA sample of a family member to match the profile of the dead person,” Malaysian police chief Abdul Samah told reporters, and “before we release the body we have to identify who the body belongs to.”
As Malaysian forensic investigators explained, DNA from a child, sibling or half-sibling would be enough to provide a “kinship match” and confirm the identity. This is a matter of hard science.
DNA is deoxyribonucleic acid, the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. Nearly every cell in a human body has the same DNA. Since the mid-1980s, when British police used DNA to bag murderer-rapist Colin Pitchfork, DNA evidence has solved many cold cases, freed the innocent, and helped courts convict those truly guilty of crimes.
On the other hand, DNA has never been applied to an identity question much bigger than the kinship of Kim Jong-Nam and Kim Jong-Un. Before a nation elects a president, the voters should confirm the true identity of the candidate. That has never been clear with the 44th president of the United States, who in his farewell address said in his twenties he was “still trying to figure out who I was.”
In 1965 the Hawaiian-born American’s mother Ann Dunham married Indonesian student Lolo Soetoro and Barry became Lolo’s stepson. As a radical Occidental College student, Barry could have simply adopted an African name in the style of Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee leader Stokely Carmichael, who changed his name to Kwame Ture. Instead, in Dreams from My Father, Barry claimed that the Kenyan student Barack H. Obama, who passed away in 1982, “bequeathed” him his name.
“My father was a foreign student, born and raised in a small village in Kenya,” the senatorial candidate formerly known as Barry Soetoro told the Democratic Party convention in 2004. “He grew up herding goats, went to school in a tin-roof shack. His father, my grandfather, was a cook, a domestic servant to the British.” The speaker became a U.S. senator and in 2008 he set out to become president of the United States.
Some claimed that he was born in Kenya and therefore ineligible to be president. In reality, the child of an American mother born abroad is automatically a U.S. citizen, eligible for any elected office. The “birther” claim originated with Hillary Clinton and her aides, a ruse to distract from the real issue: the true identity of the candidate’s father.
The old-line establishment media showed little interest and many of the candidate’s records had been sealed tight. Voters knew less about him than any presidential candidate in history, but in 2008, the thoroughly unvetted Democrat became the 44th president of the United States, the most powerful man in the world. As his first term wound down, the identity mysteries mounted a surge.
The 1995 Dreams From My Father, an elephantine roman à clef with no index and no photo section, devotes 2500 words to “Frank” but in The Audacity of Hope (2006) even “Frank” fails to show up. The author openly acknowledged that Frank is Frank Marshall Davis, but he was more than a happy-drunk African American poet.
Davis was a Stalinist who supported all-white Communist dictatorships and published pornography on the side. In The Communist: Frank Marshall Davis: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mentor (2012), Paul Kengor made a strong case that the slavishly pro-Soviet Davis was the president’s ideological father, finding “remarkable similarities” between Davis’ writings and the president’s policies.
Also in 2012, Joel Gilbert’s documentary Dreams from My Real Father made a case that Frank Marshall Davis was Obama’s biological father. The film charts the remarkable physical similarities between the men and chronicles the relationship between Davis and Obama’s mother Ann Dunham.
Gilbert also finds a striking resemblance between Davis’ children Lynn and Mark and the current president of the United States. The film also cites evidence that the president has faked photos and had plastic surgery to hide his resemblance to Davis.
In 2012 Republican candidate Mitt Romney had all this information but failed to deploy it. The President Formerly Known as Barry Soetoro (PFKBS) won a second term but the mysteries lingered on.
In 2013 the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture released an archive of material from the Kenyan Barack H. Obama. In his writings from 1958 to 1964, including more than 20 letters, the Kenyan mentions nothing about an American wife and Hawaiian-born son. In 2013 and 2016, on his last Father’s Day in office, the president was invited to review this material but never did so. The reason is not difficult to understand.
In an April, 2015, interview, Joel Gilbert asked Malik Obama, supposedly the president’s half brother, “Do you think that Barack looks like Frank Marshall Davis – this is a man that he said raised him – more than your father?”
“There’s a great resemblance,” Malik Obama said. “I think Frank Marshall Davis and Barack, they look alike. Some kind of moles I see on his face and Frank, he has those too. There’s a resemblance.”
“Well,” countered Gilbert, “would you like to see or do a DNA test one day to know for sure?”
“That would really prove whether we are related or not,” Malik said. “Yes. I would be willing to do that. I don’t know how I’d deal with it, if it really came out that he really is a fraud or a con.”
No DNA test took place and the old-line establishment media expressed no interest. The PFKBS duly finished his term. His designated successor Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump, whose supporters included Malik Obama. The Trump administration and Congress should honor Malik Obama’s request for a DNA test and subpoena the DNA samples from the appropriate parties, including half-siblings.
DNA can verify if Stalinist dictator Kim Jong-Un and murder victim Kim Jong-Nam are related. DNA can also verify whether the 44th president is the son of a Kenyan goatherd or the Stalinist Frank Marshall Davis.
In other words, was the 44th president really the person he said he was? Or as Malik Obama said, was he a fraud or a con? That is a question of some importance, considering the vast damage he left behind.
