Tucker Carlson’s recent dive into amplifying and legitimizing the idea that America and the Allies were the bad guys in WWII, and that the Nazis weren’t actually guilty of a Holocaust can be seen in the context of antisemitism. Tucker had tried to take the side of Islamic terrorists against Israel after Oct 7.
But it can also be seen in the context of Tucker’s attempts to argue that America was also the bad guy in the war with Japan and bizarre claims that dropping atomic bombs on Japan was a plot against Christians.
If America was the villain in WWII in the war with Japan, it stands to reason that it was also the villain in the war with Nazi Germany. And that’s the way leftists tend to see America. They start with the premise that everything about America is rotten and then rationalize the premise by defending our enemies whether it’s Islamic terrorists, Nazis, or criminals.
The larger context though is that after FOX, Tucker let his freak flag fly and embraced every kind of insanity promoted by some social media influencer with a platform.
After starting off on Twitter with UFOs, Tucker was up for anything including a flat earth.
“What do you think of flat Earth theory, Tucker?” Stein asked. Carlson responded by stating he is “open to anything.”
“How could I not be open to anything at this point? I mean, there’s been so much deception that you can’t trust your preconceptions.”
It’s a familiar argument and it works great with Tucker’s “just asking questions” routine, but it also perfectly captures what’s wrong with him and so many other influencers.
Truth isn’t the opposite of lies. The opposite of lies is just more lies.
Truth is what happens when you reject lies, not when you reject everything.
The sleight of hand used by so many influencers trying to promote the dumbest, worst and evilest ideas is that since the establishment and the media lies, it’s time to embrace the opposite of whatever they say.
That’s how Tucker ends up arguing that because there’s so much deception, maybe the earth is flat.
A flat earth is what happens when you don’t really believe in anything, you just disbelieve. That’s not actual skepticism or a search for truth, it’s nihilism. It’s the sort of radicalism that fueled Marxist and leftist movements that set out to discard everything and begin again from Year Zero. Believe in nothing and you are nothing.
Or, worse still, like Tucker, you come to believe in the worst and dumbest things because they’re the opposite of whatever it was you used to believe.

He was a white nationalist what did you expect. They always blame the Jews.

The down votes here represent some wild popularity that Carlson has….. “cult of personality” and all that.
For some people, once they have a hero, they will not let go. The role of the hero is an emotional one, and for some people, deeply so. They follow Owens or Carlson to the end of the anti Semitic pro WWII Nazi Germany flat earth and right over the edge.
Its sad, but I get it. Losing one’s hero is like losing a parent…..
Kynarion Hellenis says
Cat, I do not think Carlson is a white nationalist, but I do see that some people, perhaps most, tend towards hero worship. It is a common human idolatry. Carlson is just a human being, but, since his firing from Fox, he is free to entertain wider interviews against the approved media and government(s) narratives. Is this not a good thing?
Carlson does see the anti-white antipathy, but that only makes him a “white nationalist” for those who irrationally fear whites having equality before the law. Am I could be wrong? I have not heard or watched all Tucker has said and done.

About flying saucers, one has to think critically long and hard. There is a lot of hearsay evidence, I guess that is what you call it. But nothing concrete yet. To me, that shows the weakness of relying on hearsay evidence. There is so much room for delusional thinking and persuasive but false statements. Most cases can be explained by misperception. Then there are cases that are really hard to explain. But not conclusive.
Delusional thinking and false accusations can do a lot of damage, can ruin one’s life. I had a case last year of someone making really damaging accusations up to the end of her life. It turned out to my advantage in getting me off the hook of some accusations that person had made against me earlier that spoiled maybe 15 years of my life. When the new persons being accused asked me for my opinion of the accusations against them I said “delusional thinking”. That got me off the hook with them, since previously they had believed the earlier false accusations the person had made against me. They were so grateful to me for getting them off the hook that they lost their belief in the earlier accusations against me.
Reminds me of bogus court cases, like the cases against Trump. Complete nonsense, yet a biased jury convicted him. Scary that one can’t rely on the justice system, due to bias, hearsay, delusional thinking, etc. Not to mention out and out false testimony by pathological liars 🙂
Jeff Bargholz says
I don’t know about flying saucers and little green E.T.S but I’,m with you, brother.
“delusional thinking” is a real thing. Some people need help. They believe stupid things.
I’m lucky to have a chick right now who doesn’t ascribe to that. She’s 66 years old but oh, well. I don’t care, although she hates when I say that “I don’rt care.” I fuck that wrinkly old ass and love it.

About flat earth, it is susceptible to mathematics. The ancient Greeks already had it figured out. They knew that on a certain day and time the Sun was directly overhead in Egypt. So they put up a pole in Greece and measured the angle of the shadow at that time. So by properties of triangles they were able to estimate the distance to the Sun.
Then there is the evidence from the ocean. Ships off in a distance were often seen “hull down” which meant their sails were visible before the hull. That showed the curvature of the Earth.
I made the disastrous mistake of arguing with a flat earther once. At the time I thought she was putting me on, so I tried to explain to her how the Earth goes around the Sun. But now I suspect she really believed it. “I see the Sun coming up and going around the Earth every day” she argued 🙂
I don’t mean to criticize Tucker, he is good in some ways, but critical thinking isn’t his strong point 🙂
About the Holocaust deniers, I read some of them decades ago, and their history was so bad that even I could see that their story was bogus.
Jeff Bargholz says
Climb a mountain and you can see the curvature of the Earth. Hell, I saw it on a bungee jump in Bali. It was clear as day. That was a good day.
Martina Vaslovik says
Well the Flat Earth Society does have chapters all around the globe. Just sayin 🙂
Gordon says
Were the Allies perfectly altruistic and concerned only with doing good deeds? Of course not, they were nations pursuing their own self-interest, at times to the detriment of others. Candace Owens seems to suggest that the Germans were an entirely peaceful Christian nation, doing their daily devotions when Allied bombers appeared out of nowhere to incinerate them for no reason. Dresden isn’t hidden history, I’ve known about it since I was a kid. Just because Candace never read a book, doesn’t mean it’s been kept a secret from everyone. If Candace ever bothered to read a real book, she would know that they were intended as terror bombings to break the spirit of the German civilian population to continue the war. Same with Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. That was the purpose-mass casualties and terror because it was a war. The Germans and Japanese both massacred civilians on the same scale and more, just by different means. What is happening right now is that many people, me included, are waking up to the horrifying realization that America has fallen under control of its intelligence services and military-industrial complex and has become a source for evil in the world, as Dwight D. warned. As Daniel says, this upsetting of our worldview causes some to veer towards more lies instead of the truth. I do believe Candace is searching for truth, and I hope she finds it. It’s pretty clear at this point that her grasp, and Tucker’s, of WWII history is pretty shallow. A few legitimate German grievances and fears of communism does not explain away the whole thing.
Rich Kozlovich says
When the allies discovered the Nazi death camps Ike demanded they all be filmed, because he said: “Some bastard will come along and claim it never happened”! That was prescient. Pat Buchannan, Candice Owens, and possibly Tucker, and since I don’t watch videos, they take too long to get to the gist of things, I don’t know what was said, as I only read commentaries, so I’m taking writer’s word for what was said.
I’ve stated I never liked Carlson, and I rarely followed his Fox show, but when I did, I was impressed, but sometimes you just don’t likes someone, in spite of the fact he was fast becoming the nation’s premier TV political analyst. But, he’s said some idiot things and the past, and now, if true, he’s doubling down on them, and losing credibility over this, and if all everyone is saying, then rightly so. And whether of not what’s being reported is true, we have to know this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Kynarion Hellenis says
I sympathize with Carlson’s “open to anything” and “just ask questions” posture because we are living in a time of extreme deceit — with heavy prices to be paid by anyone questioning approved narratives.
The flat earth reference more likely to represents his extreme commitment to entertaining even that which is ridiculous. Doing so better engages and presses arguments to their logical extremes. At best, this allows the truth to assert itself. Even if the truth is not thereby fully apprehended, the lie is exposed and can be safely discarded.
Tucker is doing real investigative journalism, letting opinions stand or fall. He makes mistakes, but does not hide from them. That raises his value in my estimation.
Kynarion Hellenis says
Whoever downvoted me could help me to think better, if I could see my error. I can only think this person desires only approved narratives or censorship of free speech. Am I wrong? Please show me.
Jeff Bargholz says
Whoever down voted you licks dead dicks Zombie dicks.
RAM says
The earth must be flat because Tucker fell off the edge.
cat says
Can I tell a corny cat joke? You know the earth isn’t flat because if it was, cats would have swatted everything over the edge.

I was put off by Carlson a few years back, sure he’s sensible in some areas but sketchy in others. I’m not surprised to his increasing anti-Semitic turn … his first platform came as a foil for Bill on the O’Reilly Factor.
I noticed that O’Reilly never had anything meaningful to say about the issues in Israel no matter how newsworthy. Such an omission seemed to be in support of the anti-Israel position.
But O’Reilly never really tried to untie the Gordian Knots of controversy … his “big” contribution was “Jessica’s Law” – at the time there was ZERO controversy in seeking to protect under-age girls.
Kynarion Hellenis says
Being “put off” by anyone is inevitable. We all are human, and the best of us are trying to be truthful with humility. Tucker is doing hard work and going places we are NOT ALLOWED to go. That alone is another reason he has value.
I do not see how disagreeing with this, desiring only approved narratives, is helpful or good or honest. In fact, it is very dangerous.
Algorithmic Analyst says
OK, I read Robert Spencer’s critique of the guy. The guy is weak intellectually, picking and choosing selected facts that support his thesis without really understanding the situation deeply.
Chris Shugart says
I guess being “open to anything” includes the scientifically impossible. That’s not being open-minded. That’s being an airhead.
Cassandra says
I have never trusted Tucker Carlson and certainly not to be a righteous conservative. First his background, his father was CIA. Then his weird hysterical laughter he’s developed since ‘supporting’ Trump and the wacky subjects he discusses such as aliens and a flat earth. Now this. If Trump gets in I pray he has good advice to choose the correct people around him and keep TC at a good distance….
Sarah says
Tucker Carlson is a fool wrapped up in preppy attire and the air of intelligensia meets regular folk just curious about somethings. His faux innocent “yes” habit while guests say outrageous things is irritating beyond belief. Who would have guessed he was a vile human being, but apparently he is. He should be mocked and rejected. (His little band of brothers touring with him is also revealing, ie, Vivek and RFK.
Jan VI says
Maybe Carlson’s show is as Greenfield describes (I don’t watch it), simply for controversy and ratings. Remember Jerry Springer?
Correction: the opposite of lies *is* truth!
Jeff Bargholz says
I used to like Tucker Carlson. But then I used to have cable, four years ago. Like doesn’t last long.
