The international community is and remains a western construct. By bringing the third world into the construct, the Soviet Union effectively made a mockery of it creating the democracy of dictatorships that is the United Nations today.
Attempts to enlist China into the fiction is particularly absurd since the only thing the Communist regime cares about is itself.
China isn’t on Russia’s side, except to the extent that it can profit from it. It doesn’t want to see Russia fully take Ukraine, nor does it want to see its Russia trade impacted by sanctions. Thus China’s statements on the war have largely focused on…
1. The wrongness of sanctioning Russia
2. Ukraine’s right to territorial integrity
None of this especially matters.
China isn’t going out on a limb for anyone in the war. It’s perfectly happy to see the West and Russia fight, while profiting from both sides.
Biden’s outreach to Xi was pathetic. Likewise, Putin expecting China to bail him out is similarly foolish. China and Russia got along badly even when both were Communist. China will be happy to bail out Putin only as leverage for gaining an even deeper hold on Russia’s economy.
China doesn’t care about the inherent issues in the conflict. Its only side is China.
