It’s a love story, a tragedy and much of the reason for fear in the world today.
It’s described in the WND Books project “United in Hate” by Jamie Glazov, which was featured recently on the Glenn Beck TV program while WND columnist Erick Stakelbeck served as guest host.
The focus of the segment was the hatred toward the United States and Western Civilization that unites the left with radical Muslims.
Stakelbeck is a sought-after authority on terrorism and national security issues with extensive experience in television, radio and print media. He’s been a correspondent and analyst for CBN News, covering the global war on terror, U.S. national security, the Middle East and the growth of radical Islam at home and abroad.
He’s also a WND contributor.
Glazov’s book documents the “left’s contemporary romance with militant Islamists as a continuation of its love affair with communist totalitarianism in the 20th century.”
He cited as an example the virtual silence from the left that followed the suicide of a Pakistani woman who had suffered a battery acid attack by her husband. The woman survived 12 years with horrific disfigurement but just weeks ago chose to end her life by leaping from a Rome hotel. Glazov wondered where were the feminist groups and the rights groups demanding justice on her behalf.
He explains in his book that just as the left was drawn to the communist killing machines of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Castor, now it’s drawn to radical Islam.
Both ideologies, he concludes, hold a “profound hatred for Western culture as well as for a capitalist economic structure that recognizes individual achievement and especially for the Judeo-Christian heritage of the U.S.”
He writes that both seek a new world order, “leftists in the form of a classless communist society and Islamists in the form of a caliphate ruled by Shariah law.”
“To achieve these goals, both are willing to ‘wipe the slate clean’ by means of limitless carnage, with the ultimate goal of erecting their utopia upon the ruins of the system they have destroyed.”
Stakelbeck and Glazov were joined in the show segment by David Brog of Christians United for Israel.
Brog said those with such views likely are a minority but they are getting attention, because their worldview “says there is no such thing as evil.”
Brog said without a cognizance of evil, any conflict is blamed on the side with which liberals disagree.
He said those with traditional values must “stand up” to the challenge to their worldview.
