The hypocrisy here is both commonplace and astounding.
GLAAD and other gay rights groups list Warners as an “ally”. After Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was canceled for standing up for the rights of women against the transgender movement, the studio began carefully distancing itself from her and even pulling her name from the new movies.
But when it comes to China, Warners, like Disney, discovers a whole other set of principles.
References to a gay relationship in “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” were edited out of the movie by Warner Bros. for the film’s release in China.
“As a studio, we’re committed to safeguarding the integrity of every film we release, and that extends to circumstances that necessitate making nuanced cuts in order to respond sensitively to a variety of in-market factors,” Warner Bros. said in a statement to Variety.
Somehow I doubt that removing a gay scene at the insistence of a state or community in this country would be described as “nuanced cuts in order to respond sensitively.”
But China gets what China wants. While Hollywood bullies Americans, it kowtows to the Commies.
Warners will sacrifice Rowling to appease leftist sexual identity radicals and then sacrifice gay content to appease Communist China. If there’s one thing that we can learn from both history and the present, it’s that there’s nothing Hollywood won’t sell out to the Left.
