The Washington Post, which has recently run multiple pieces in support of the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent of Hamas, and of Jamal Khashoggi, a Brotherhood Hamas supporter employed by Qatar, a state sponsor of Hamas, falsely described Omar Shakir as a human rights activist.

The social justice tabloid’s headline declares, Israel plans to deport a U.S. human rights activist. Democrats are pushing back.

The headline is false and inaccurate in a number of ways.

But the most obvious falsehood is the description of Omar Shakir, an anti-Israel BDS activist who has supported terrorists, a human rights activist.

Human rights activists support human rights across the board. Shakir is an anti-Israel activist who uses his tenure with Human Rights Watch to attack Israel. 

That’s been his entire career, as documented by human rights groups such as NGO Monitor and Canary Mission.

Canary starts with Omar Shakir’s college and CCR ugliness.

In January 2015, Shakir represented anti-Israel professor Steven Salaita as an attorney for the Center for Constitutional Rights.

In 2014, The University of Illinois (U of I) withdrew an offer of employment to Salaita after becoming aware of his anti-Semitic tweets. One tweet, postedshortly after Hamas kidnapped three teenage Israeli high school students, read: You may be too refined to say it, but I’m not: I wish all the f**king West Bank settlers would go missing.

A month later, Salaita tweeted Zionists: transforming ‘antisemitism’ from something horrible into something honorable since 1948. On July 8, 2014, he tweeted: There’s something profoundly sexual to the Zionist pleasure w/#Israel’s aggression. Sublimation through bloodletting, a common perversion. 

On January 29, 2015, Shakir tweeted: We sued U of Illinois today for violating Constitution in firing @stevesalaita for tweets on Israel’s bombing of Gaza.

On November 24, 2015, Shakir wrote and promoted an article for Electronic Intifada claiming his settlement was a victory for Palestine solidarity movement.

This has nothing in common with human rights.

On November 5, 2014, Shakir tweeted an article defending terrorist Rasmea Odeh. Odeh was a key military operative with the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In 1969, Odeh masterminded a PFLP bombing that killed two college students in a Jerusalem supermarket. Odeh also attempted to bomb the British consulate.

Neither does this.

At Human Rights Watch, Shakir supported Hamas attacks on Israel.

Since March 30, 2018, Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups have organized violent confrontations along Gaza’s border with Israel under the label of the “March of Return.” Shakir tweeted 18 times (76 retweets) in condemnation of Israel’s right to defend its borders, belittling the violence, and making various politically driven statements. Shakir’s tweets accused Israel of “entrenched discrimination,” “cag[ing]” Palestinians, and of “whitewash[ing]” investigations. 

This is what the Washington Post considers human rights.
