Remember when lefties kept saying that we should be more like Europe?

The United Kingdom’s National Health Service announced on Friday it plans to ban puberty blockers outside of the use of clinical trials as well as increasingly to regulate gender transition treatments for minors.

“We have previously made clear … the intention that the NHS will only commission puberty suppressing hormones as part of clinical research,” the NHS announcement said

The 25-page document for U.K. practitioners specifies that the NHS “will adopt a holistic, multi-disciplinary integrated approach to assessing and responding to an individual’s needs” and will center on “fully involving the child or young person and their family.”

“A significant proportion of children and young people who are concerned about, or distressed by, issues of gender incongruence experience coexisting mental health, neuro-developmental and/or personal, family or social complexities in their lives. The relationship between these presentations and gender incongruence may not be readily apparent and will often require careful exploration,” the report reads.

In short, exactly what critics of the transgender movement have been saying all along.

But in the United States, identity politics and medical profiteering has created a corrupt and destructive school-to-castration pipeline. And the Democrats, from the Biden administration down, has embraced it.

Consider the contrast with Clinton Judge Robert Hinkle in Florida, attacking the DeSantis administration for banning puberty blockers for children. And the media cheering him on.

Usually the American and European Left are in sync, but there are growing gaps, especially in this area. The American Left has gone all-in on castrating kids, whereas the European Left is markedly less enthusiastic. And it says something that the NHS, once the ideal for American lefties, is backing away sharply not only from puberty blockers, but the whole process of radically pushing gender ideology to transform kids with psychological problems.

Following extensive stakeholder engagement and a systematic review of evidence, England’s National Health Service (NHS) has issued new draft guidance for the treatment of gender dysphoria in minors, which sharply deviates from the “gender-affirming” approach. The previous presumption that gender dysphoric youth <18 need specialty “transgender healthcare” has been supplanted by the developmentally-informed position that most need psychoeducation and psychotherapy. Eligibility determination for medical interventions will be made by a centralized Service and puberty blockers will be delivered only in research protocol settings. The abandonment of the “gender-affirming” model by England had been foreshadowed by The Cass Review’s interim report, which defined “affirmative model” as a “model of gender healthcare that originated in the USA.”

American Lefties are shouting loudly that their obsession with castrating kids is the only right thing to do and every non-bigot understands that, but the Europeans aren’t on board, and really no one is.

The UK transgender movement is faltering and America is starting to look like a houseful of lunatics for letting the kid castration lobby run things.

Here Biden is declaring that 8 or 10-year-olds can change gender and that his administration will fight to make it happen.

The response should be, we should be more like Europe and ban puberty blockers for kids.
