Gokhan Gun, a 50-year-old Falls Church, Virginia, resident who holds a dual citizenship with Turkey, was arrested August 9 by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Gun is an electrical engineer who works in the Department of Defense Joint Warfare Analysis Center.
Earlier in the week, they claim, Gun printed off 82 pages marked as top secret. FBI agents found a backpack “prepared for his foreign trip” in the DOD engineer’s dining room.
The backpack was allegedly found to contain even more classified materials.
Officials say that Gun printed off and took more than 150 pages of documents from a highly classified network.
In the past, he has taken over a dozen trips to international destinations in Europe and the Middle East.
There’s plenty to delve into here, but let’s start with why a dual citizen was employed in the DOD Joint Warfare Analysis Center, and why he was able to access “150 pages of documents from a highly classified network” after taking multiple trips to the Middle East.

Through his employment, Gun possesses a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and has received training on the proper handling and storage of classified information.

Packed for travel in a small personal belt bag, Gun allegedly had his U.S. passport and an expired passport from Turkey.
He was traveling with a Turkish passport.
I don’t even blame Gun here. He was being a Muslim patriot. Only an insane country whose leadership has lost its mind would have given him the kind of access that it did.

I’ll submit that dual citizenship shouldn’t be allowed at all, let alone granting someone wih dual citizenship access to national security secrets. You can’t have divided loyalties. If you want to become an American, give up your former citizenship. Becoming a U.S. citizen means that one is transferring their loyalties, and citizenship classes should emphasize this..

If you are an AMERICAN CITIZEN then that is IT! How can you be an AMERICAN if you are a citizen of ANY other Nation? And I include Israel in that! I have a very good friend who wanted to work for the DOD but couldn’t get classified access. Then he was told renounce your Israeli citizenship and you can get. He did and got. But did have to give up where he was born.

I think part of it is the push for “diversity.” We don’t have many Turks working for us, so let’s hire a few. Iranians too. And Chinese, and maybe a Russian or two. Diversity is, our President likes to remind us, “our strength.” Except with documents classified to the level of Top Secret and SCI. I used to have access to those kind of documents, and I think I know how valuable they would be to our adversaries. But yeah, let’s hire a few of their nationals and give them access to whatever they (or their handlers) want. What could possibly go wrong?
This is barely the tip of the iceberg.
