Kamala’s endstage election strategy was to run on abortion. Michelle Obama and assorted celebrities came out to claim that the Supreme Court striking down Roe v. Wade was going to kill women. Leftist agitprop sites like ProPublica have kept on pushing dubious claims that women are doing because of state laws.

Abortion seemed like it paid off for Dems in the 2022 midterms. So why didn’t it help in 2024?

Midterms are easier to swing with single-issue voters and most Americans right now care primarily about economic issues, but one basic reason that the abortion electorate never showed up is that the whole thing was a lie. As I’ve been pointing out since Roe v.. Wade was struck down, is that there was never any reason to believe that abortions would go down if the whole thing was left to the states. People who really wanted abortions would just travel to other states. Not only isn’t abortion down, it’s actually up.

It seemed only logical after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade that abortion rates would go down and births would go up.

Instead, the opposite happened: Abortions went up last year and the country’s fertility rate hit a historic low.

Now the media is finally willing to admit it. Or sorta admit it.

“The post-Dobbs world wasn’t as bad as we expected,” said Diana Greene Foster, a reproductive health researcher at the University of California, San Francisco. “It happened that people were denied abortions before Dobbs. It’s likely happening after Dobbs, but not to the extent that I, at least, was worried about.”

Foster predicted in 2022 that a quarter of women who wanted abortions in states with bans would give birth instead. Now, she thinks the share might be somewhere in the low single digits.

The share is non-existent. Abortions are up. Why? Probably because Dems and their media have spent years promoting them.

“The obstacles are actually lower than before Dobbs,” said Dr. Rebecca Gomperts, the Dutch physician who founded Aid Access, an organization that mails abortion medications to individuals who request them. “For people that didn’t have the financial resources or the infrastructure, the logistical structures in place to go to a clinic … I think the landscape now is much better.”

Kamala ran on a lie. The lie failed her.
