Frankly, the American educational system has one job and it’s lousy at doing it. Schools spend tens of thousands of dollars per student only to come away with results worse than one-room schoolhouses of days past. Where does all the money being ‘spent’ on students actually go? Some of it goes to gimmicks and inflated union salaries, and educational supplies contracts with large companies, but a good deal of it goes to consultants and large companies that provide similar services while accomplishing nothing.
In today’s outrage, the media is fuming that $900 million in ‘research’ conducted by the Dept of Ed has been cut off by the Trump administration.
“Every kid deserves a great public education and that can’t happen without nonpartisan research and data to understand what’s working and what needs to be fixed,” Sen Patty Murray complained.
We’ve had decades of ‘data’ and ‘research’ which routinely concludes contradictory things and which has accomplished nothing, except perhaps belatedly convincing the educracy to go back to phonics.
We don’t need $900 million worth of research. The application of academic theories to education failed badly. No amount of consultants have turned out failings in the educational system. And the Dept of Education is a giant money-sink that does nothing but funnel cash to all the wrong special interests. Like the rest of the government.
Kids don’t need the Department of Education, they need competent and knowledgable teachers capable of covering subjects with them. And the D of E is one of a number of reasons why they’re an endangered species.
Putting that $900 million into actual local education would count for a lot more than more ‘research’.
Education is not a science, it’s a practice.
A practice much like human sacrifice, at least for the past few generations of America’s school kids
So perceptive! And the god receiving the sacrifices was Mammon.
And Moloch, when it comes to abortion.
That “research” is intended to bolster the insane theories that leftards come up with and then inflict upon the education system.
None of it works, none of it is tested in pilot programs, and the “research” is fake studies to try and gaslight the public into believing it does.
It’s also a way to funnel money to EdDs who have completely worthless “qualifications”. An EdD is an immediate indicator of an idiot. Has been for 50 years.
Destroy the Dept of Ed….worthless government graft in action.
Fifty years ago the best women in our country became teachers. It was the common local practice. The famous Kentucky 8th grade graduation test in 1900 proves it existed further back into history. Today females hurry to the office to shuffle papers from one side the desk to another for “work.”
Now education has veered from having black kids bussed to sit by white kids to improve their intelligence to another round of segregation. The Education Dept. is a jobs program for failed BA students that produces DIE jobs and the “teachers ” that sign their grade sheets. The money for failing colleges is just another bonus. HOME SCHOOL with no iphone.
I saw this one documentary about a teacher teaching his students how to use an abacus and they got quite good at it. So much so they could use the motion of their fingers on an imaginary abacus when taking a test. These students excelled at math because of this. Why don’t we teach this everywhere? Good question.
When my son was in High School a group of “consultants” came in for a presentation on climate change. I don’t recall the name of the Not group now, but their entire business was going school to school to indoctrinate kids on the climate scam. Attendance was mandatory for the whole school. At one point in the presentation my son shouted “bullshit!” and the whole auditorium erupted in laughter. A cadre of teachers and administrators piled into the bleachers looking for who said it like they were Gestapo agents searching for Jews. Nobody snitched. Not only was attendance mandatory, but so was total acquiescence and agreement.
I think normally my son would have been severely punished, but in this case, impossibly i would have rewarded him and told him that he had courage when it was needed.

Maybe the Dept of Ed wants to catch up to the educational standards of Mozambique and El Salvador?
Because Graft. How else are the vaunted ‘leaders’ going to get to their first $1,000,000?
Everybody wants a shortcut, a gimmick to learn how to read w/o putting in the effort… often w/ disastrous results. Two decades of students learning time wasted. How could it go on for so long and nobody noticed?

New York City’s schools chancellor announced on Tuesday that hundreds of public schools have been “teaching reading the wrong way for the last two decades, leaving an untold number of children struggling to acquire a crucial life skill,” The New York Times reported.
Last two decades?
It’s goes back a lot further than that.
Australia follows, but lags a few years, the idiocies introduced into the US education system and ours was starting fail at teaching reading in the ’70s.
Using my old 6 year high school for example. I started in 1972, finished in ’77.
There were exactly the same number of year 7s in the intakes in both years, from the same primary schools with a great many of the same teachers, but the primary curriculums had changed.
My intake had 5 kids with reading difficulties – needed glasses but hadn’t been picked up, 1 was dyslexic, and the other one was the local moron who finally got kicked up from a small, 2 teacher country school after failing 3 times.
The ’77 intake had 35 kids with reading difficulties, 5 were a match for my year, the other 30 were because they hadn’t been taught to read properly, and the rest of the year was at least a year behind on Reading Age from the ’72 intake.
It’s gotten worse since.
We need the youth Educated not Brainwashed we don’t need any Climate Change and Climate Change Brats like Greta scare mongers or Gun Control idiots like Hogg and his band of Useful Idiots
Research is definitely not needed to teach the three R’s. The same techniques that applied hundreds of years ago still apply today. It’s just the “woke” who think it’s necessary to change.
The Department of Ed has one job…
The Dep of Ed’s job is not to teach, that’s the job of schools and school districts. The Ed Dep’s job is to exert federal authority over states via money distribution (after DC takes its cut of course). I’m not saying it’s a job worth funding. Personally, it goes against the concept of federalism that our country was founded on.
