What’s striking about this story is how little coverage it has gotten and the media angle.
Janet Bewley, 70, minority leader in the state Senate, was reportedly doing a phone interview with a newspaper reporter at the time of the crash Friday afternoon.
A statement from the police in Ashland said Bewley was attempting to make a left turn out of a picnic area at a Lake Superior beach into the eastbound lanes of a four-lane highway. As she pulled out, she collided with a westbound car. “That vehicle then spun across the highway and was struck by an eastbound vehicle,” the police said.
Killed were the westbound car’s driver, Alyssa Ortman, 27, of Clearfield, Penn., and her 5-year-old daughter.
The media describes this as “involved in an accident”. But the media was very involved.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said one of their reporters was on the phone with Bewley at the time of the crash.
At the start of the interview, which was to be about fall elections, Bewley mentioned she had had eye surgery the day before for cataracts, according to the newspaper. Minutes later the call went silent and the reporter asked if she was still there. Bewley, sounding concerned, replied, “Yeah, I’m OK. This is not a good accident.”
In a post on Facebook, Brandon Fink, the father of the 5-year-old, spoke of his disbelief about the child’s death. He said Bewley “hasn’t even reached out. … Great people we elect.”
Brandon Fink is now suing Bewley: the Democrat Senate Minority Leader.
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that it obtained a crash report from the Ashland Police Department. The report is said to indicate that Bewley was distracted by her hands-free mobile phone at the time of the crash.
And, much like Pelosi’s husband, still no real accountability.
It won’t surprise you too much to learn that Bewley is a fan of killing kids… but usually through abortion.
Unlike other states, Wisconsin has yet to repeal or modify its abortion ban. The law, as written in 1849, would be enforced if Roe v. Wade is repealed.
“Unfortunately, Wisconsin will probably not be one of those states because the Republicans in our legislature don’t have the will to act on behalf of the people of Wisconsin,” State Sen. Janet Bewley, D-Mason, told reporters during a press conference.
“We do what we must/Because we can/For the good of all of us/Except the ones who are dead.”
Bad driver. Seen a lot of that.
It is illegal to drive distracted. That is vehicular manslaughter, but hey, she is a demonrat and they don’t get into trouble for killing the knaves.
“What’s striking about this story is how little coverage it has gotten and the media angle.” Actually, the exact opposite would striking.
Nothing to see here, move along.
Probably not a good idea to be driving the day after a cataract surgery, It took me a couple of days before my vision was no longer blurred.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. A good driver should know that.
What people say in unguarded moments says volumes about character. “Yeah, I’m okay. This is not a good accident.”
Always drive in the right-hand lane whenever possible, even on divided highways. It might save your life one day. (It did mine.)
Yeah, I eventually hit on that strategy. I hated making a left turn against fast moving traffic. I would rather go around the block making several right turns.
I hope she gets bankrupted. Why is it that democratic women are so butt ugly?
I’m curious, how many drivers are dropping dead at the wheel because of the vax? It’s happening to everybody else.
It will only be a matter of time before a fully loaded plane falls out of the sky for the same reason.
I live in the largest city in Wisconsin. This is the first I’m hearing of this accident! Thanks!
