We’re talking about CAIR of course.
How wide has the scope of CAIR’s influence grown among Democrats? As Adam Kredo notes, quite wide indeed.
The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an advocacy group with deep ties to the anti-Israel movement in America, touted its support among congressional leaders during its 2019 gala conference in November in Washington, D.C. Prominent opponents of the pro-Israel community, including anti-Israel activist Linda Sarsour and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), headlined the conference.
A copy of CAIR’s conference agenda, obtained by the Free Beacon and published here for the first time, includes well over 100 letters from Democratic and Republican members of Congress, all of whom expressed their support for the controversial organization. Democrats issued the majority of the letters, with only two coming from Republican members of Congress.
Democratic 2020 presidential contenders Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.), and Tom Steyer all penned letters of support. Prominent Democrats such as Omar, Reps. Adam Schiff (D., Calif.), Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich), and Eric Swalwell (D., Calif.) also lent their support to CAIR’s agenda, according to materials reviewed by the Free Beacon.
The Dems include the usual hard lefties, but there’s also Senator Doug Jones, whom, you would think, would avoid this mess.
Tom Steyer decided to wade in. As did Governor Northam, who’s gone too long between scandals. Senator Krysten Sinema expressed her support for CAIR. Unsurprising considering the situation in Arizona.
And then there are the usual uglies, like Rep. Hank Johnson, Rep. Ro Khanna, Rep. Marcy Kaptur, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Chuy Garcia, and Rep. Betty McCollum.
That’s significant considering CAIR’s unindicted co-conspirator status.
Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich sent the letter last month to four members of Congress who asked for details last fall on how CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the terror-finance trial against the Holy Land Foundation and its former officials.
He included trial transcripts and exhibits “which demonstrated a relationship among CAIR, individual CAIR founders, and the Palestine Committee. Evidence was also introduced that demonstrated a relationship between the Palestine Committee and HAMAS, which was designated as a terrorist organization in 1995.”
Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, and trial exhibits show the Brotherhood created the Palestine Committee. CAIR officials adamantly deny any involvement with either Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood. The Weich letter, however, shows that the Department of Justice has not wavered in its conclusion that the internal records it possesses prove a connection.
This is what 120+ Democrats support.
