It’s the split screen again.
On the one hand, the Europeans are lifting range restrictions on Ukraine, allowing it to conduct strikes in Russian territory; on the other hand they’re considering (and in some cases, such as the UK, already are) imposing sanctions on Israel and demanding that it stop fighting Hamas.
Back to the split screen in Germany.
Germany’s new chancellor said Monday that his country and other major allies are no longer imposing any range restrictions on weapons supplied to Ukraine as it fights the Russian invasion.
On Monday, he said that “there are no longer any range restrictions for weapons that have been delivered to Ukraine — neither by the British, nor by the French, nor by us, and not by the Americans either.”
“That means Ukraine can also defend itself by, for example, attacking military positions in Russia,” Merz said at a forum organized by WDR public television. “Until a while ago, it couldn’t. … It can now.”
But Merz also ranted that what Israel is doing “can no longer be justified by the fight against Hamas terrorism” and “what the Israeli army is doing now in the Gaza Strip, frankly speaking, I no longer understand with what goal.”
So on the one hand, Ukraine can escalate into Russia, and that’s an understandable “goal”, but Israel fighting to destroy Hamas is no longer an understandable goal.
Even the United States seems to be moving toward the European position, becoming more accepting of Ukraine’s campaign and less accepting of Israel’s campaign, but that’s what happens when the diplomatic blob’s consensus takes hold. Its gravitational pull is hard to escape. We’ll see if the United States manages to break free of it or if the Elbridge Colbys will prevail and turn American foreign policy back into Obama’s foreign policy under the guise of ‘realism’.
The EU suffers from a severe case of cognitive dissonance. But, as George Friedman notes, the cold war may have officially ended many years ago, in reality, the Russo/Ukraine War actually ended it since it’s clear Russia with what was described as the number two military in the world hasn’t been able to beat the number 22 military in the world in over three years, and are no longer a threat to Europe.
Europe is no longer the focus for American foreign policy, that now has shifted to the Middle East, and Asia. Europe isn’t a nation, it’s a seriously divided second rate continent quickly turning into a third rate continent, with even more divisions. We don’t really care who they elect, and we don’t really care what they think, and they just refuse to understand that an it outrages them. Well, we don’t care, Europe is doomed.
Sadly, I am afraid you are correct. England is gone, and, unless there is a major revolution/upset, will be an Islamic theocracy within 15 years, or so. That is what an inside observer like Mahyar Tousi believes. And Germany seems to b drifting toward ever more centalized, leftist totalitarian control. So sad.
This WWIII is different from the previous WWs. Now it is low achiever against the higher achiever: Muslim world vs the West, Ukraine vs Russia, Palis vs Israel.,
And in the age of political correctness the EU is on the side of taking from the more successful and distributing to the less successful.
One point I haven’t seen mentioned, is that Putin’s helicopter was attacked by a bunch of drones when he was in Kursk. That may have been the reason for the massive Russian drone attack on Ukraine that followed.
One of these days Russia will get around to using nukes and EU countries will undoubtedly be on their target list.
Personally, I don’t think those EU countries clearly understand that when you play with fire chances are, you’re bound to get burned and Russia has the means to incinerate them.
Russia may not be as strong as it once were but it certainly is not toothless. To quote the late Tom Clancy: “If you’re going to kick a tiger in the ass, you’d better have a plan to deal with its teeth.”

Plain and simple: The EU can stuff it.
Agreed but with the caveat that they stuff it in a place where the sun don’t shine.
Trump did say he’d end the war in one day if elected President. Any news as to when that one day is going to be?
FWIW:
I voted for Trump (3 times) but his incessant use of superfluous platitudes is starting to wear thin.
Germany’s chancellor, Merz, should remember how Germany was denazified and the German threat to peace ended. Germany was occupied and divided. German territory was seized. German speaking people from lost territory and neighboring countries were marched out to Germany, with many dying. That point was only reached after massive bombings of civilians and invasion by the Allies. Compared with that, Israel has treated Gaza with conspicuous kid gloves. Gaza must be removed as a threat, just as Germany was. Germany has become a good neighbor in Europe. Gaza has had as much time proving the opposite.
What I see is Obama foreign policy. Sorry, but that’s what I see coming from this administration. Yes, talking out of both sides of its mouth and more effectively, at moments. There’s less overt rage against Jews from this White House but the same coldness. And Qatar is openly misrepresented as benign in an “emperor’s new clothes” manner.
