The great irony of Al Sharpton’s career is that his pinnacle of success, an MSNBC show and a revolving door to the White House, came at the expense of selling out to Obama. His National Action Network attracts politicians like fleas (Obama and Holder both stopped by) but has made him into a joke and sellout among the new generation of black activists.
Sharpton was never all that popular among black people. His power rested on his ability to bring out some thugs while shouting angry rhetoric. Now he doesn’t even have that.
So why not restore his relevance with the presidential bid that no one wants?
MSNBC host and civil rights activist Al Sharpton said in a new interview he won’t rule out a run for president in 2020, adding he isn’t currently mounting a bid.
“I never rule anything out,” Sharpton told BuzzFeed News.
Except paying damages to his victims.
The last thing that Harris or Booker want on the campaign trail is Al Sharpton. So the racist rev is pulling the same old trick of getting Dem politicians to kiss his ring. But this time they might not bite.
Obama needed Sharpton because he was an outsider in the black community. (And only an outsider would have mistaken Al for an insider.) Booker and Harris are also outsiders. But they’re more likely to court Black Lives Matter than crawl to Sharpton or Jackson. Their hour of the huckster is over.
