… the media has decided to double down and declare that people are stupid for noticing inflation.
The Wall Street Journal came out with a really bizarre article titled, “We Still Don’t Believe How Much Things Cost” whose motto is that people should stop complaining that prices have doubled and enjoy the new Bidenomics.
Much of the media already reads like it was badly translated from a North Korean publication, but this is an article that contains a paragraph stating, “expecting to see one total at checkout then paying far more is contributing to a disconnect: widespread malaise in an otherwise strong economy, economists and consumers say.”
Also seeing water in the boat contributes to the perception that it’s sinking in an otherwise stable vessel.
Everything’s great, but you’re paying twice as much for food and housing is unaffordable. But apart from that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?
Trying to talk people out of noticing the price of milk hasn’t worked, so the media has moved on to trying to convince Americans to let go of what the price of milk used to be a few years ago and accept the wonderful new normal.
I wonder, in previous historical cases of debasing the currency (AKA inflation), the media of the day made such preposterous economic claims.

You may want to keep in mind that discussing anything with a liberal is much like explaining a train schedule to a dog. The people working for the government, or work for companies that sell to the government also do well in a crappy economy, because the government can operate on a deficit, so their jobs are secure. People in government unions get automatic COLA increases, so they’re insulated.

I’m glad to hear the economy is so terrific. Now Biden can build a tall border wall, refill all the oil he siphoned out of the Strategic Oil Reserve, and pay to replenish our stockpiles of military ammunition and equipment that he sent to Ukraine.
That’s interesting about having to pay more at checkout than expected. I always keep track of what my total will be, the checkout girl always asks if I want a receipt and is surprised when I say no, as if she thinks I would want to check and see if the total was correct, as it seems high. But I already knew what it would be, due to my habit of doing the math in my head 🙂
Yes, it’s just depressing to think about so why bother? Groceries are like gasoline. You have to pay no matter what, so just budget that shit and don’t complain. Your car isn’t going to go without gas and you aren’t either, without food. Complaining never does any good and sure never helps you unless you’re a Dirtbagocrat.
Oh, that’s another good point. If I notice a small mistake in the total now, I often don’t say anything, not wanting to upset the checkout girl.
You should stand up for yourself and your dollars. I always do because grocery stores make cost mistakes about our purchases on a regular basis. I always feel worse about upsetting the people in queue behind me than the checkout girl or guy.
I add up the cost of grocery purchases too, although I cant do it in my head like you. I have a shitty memory when it comes to minutiae and figures for some reason, although I’m definitely not demented. I remember smells, sounds, faces and long term memories quite well. (Not always girls’ faces, though, which are the ones I should remember the most. I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t even remember the name of the chick I was with last night.) 🙁
It’s always annoying to waste time haggling over cost but I do it anyway. I’ve been to too many countries where prices are always negotiable, I guess. You can’t negotiate here so I want cashiers to get it right the first time.

Its like they think if they tell you everything is just fine so many times at some point you will believe. However my biggest concern is the staggering amount of idiots that do believe them. Inflation has robbed 18 cents out of every dollar I get/have. That is a 18% forever tax to pay for the spending that props up a failing economy that the federal government ruined with its meddling. Politician’s great skill is getting reelected not interfering with the economy to make it better. In February, the government spent twice as much as it brought in. They are strangling the economy by taking all the available cash for themselves. Ultimately, they help no one but themselves.
