One of the schadenfreude revelations in this New York Mag deep dive into the Biden administration’s disconnect.

Harris has a rapport with Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, with whom she confers regularly, but Biden has let their regular lunch meetings slip from weekly to biweekly to just twice this year. The two get along, but when Harris tested positive for COVID in late April, the administration was put in the awkward position of admitting that she was not technically one of the president’s “close contacts.”

Twice a year. And it’s almost June.

That effectively means that Kamala has hardly seen Biden and is just being told to do things by Ron Klain. And that’s the awkward mess you see on television.

Klain dispatches her here or there in order to give her some busywork and avoid complaints that she’s being frozen out, but Biden has frozen her out.

Kamala’s only function is to keep the party from trying to 25th amendment him. And she’s performing that job brilliantly. The worse she humiliates herself and the more embarrassing her performance, the better things are for Biden’s prospects of surviving, at least politically, until 2024.
