This isn’t the first time that the White House had to unconvincingly pretend that Biden said the opposite of what he did. But it just shows that Biden is just so mentally out there that he improvises things that aren’t in the speech, or insists on keeping things in the speech that his people don’t think should be there, but then pays very little attention when his own people have to dismiss what he said.
Either way it’s a humiliating show of political weakness.
When a president says something, the world is meant to take it seriously. But the world has long since learned that when Biden says something, it’s meaningless noise, and that anything meaningful comes through the channels from cabinet members, not from the idiot in the Oval Office.
President Joe Biden stunned listeners around the world, including those in the media, when he said in his speech in Warsaw that Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power.” A short time later, a White House official walked those comments back.
Biden called Putin “a dictator bent on rebuilding an empire,” and said that Ukraine will “never be a victory for Russia” in his remarks on Saturday. He concluded by saying, “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power.”
Oops sorry. We didn’t mean that.
“The President’s point was that Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region,” the official said. “He was not discussing Putin’s power in Russia, or regime change.”
Sure. That’s exactly what that sounds like.
This sounds like Biden improvising things without clearing it with anyone, followed by the White House effectively dismissing him as irrelevant. Biden was probably not calling for regime change, but he’s dumb enough not to grasp that someone in his position stating that the leader of Russia can’t remain in power is not a personal opinion or a general moral assertion, but can easily be interpreted as a policy and a course of action.
That’s another reason why Biden shouldn’t be occupying the office he does. The presidency is serious business. The guy at the top wields the authority of the world’s greatest superpower. Someone who can’t understand that power and how to use it doesn’t belong there.
