The Biden administration has been pressuring news outlets to serve as President Biden’s spinmeisters, especially when it comes to glossing over Biden’s dismal performance on the economy. His usual supporters in the mainstream media are falling in line. At the same time, Biden has made a habit of avoiding any serious, off-script exchanges with the press. But Biden has found time to appear virtually on a late-night TV comedy show.
During an interview with NBC’s Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon on December 10th, Fallon asked Biden whether he is paying attention to his approval ratings, which have been underwater since the president withdrew all remaining troops from Afghanistan last August in a reckless manner.
“Well, not anymore,” Biden said. “I’m not joking. I would pay attention when they’re in the mid-60s, but now they’re in the 40s, I don’t pay attention anymore.”
It looks like Biden won’t be paying attention to his approval ratings anytime soon. The American people are not in a happy mood as they find themselves paying astronomical prices for gas at the pump, heating, food, and other necessities.
On Friday, the day that Biden appeared virtually on Fallon’s show, the news on inflation got even worse than before. Consumer prices rose at the fastest annual pace in 39 years last month, increasing a staggering 6.8 percent over the same period a year ago. The price increases have effectively erased any advances in wages since Biden took office. In fact, real wages (taking inflation into account) have declined.
“Energy prices have risen 33.3% since November 2020, including a 3.5% surge in November,” CNBC reported. “Gasoline alone is up 58.1%. Food prices have jumped 6.1% over the year, while used car and truck prices, a major contributor to the inflation burst, are up 31.4%, following a 2.5% increase last month.” Shelter costs increased 3.8% year-to-year, the highest since 2007.
On December 14th, the government announced even more ominous inflation news. The measure for U.S. wholesale inflation (Producer Price Index) increased 9.6% in November from a year ago, the fastest such increase since November 2010 when the Labor Department’s record keeping for this measure began.
Biden acknowledged to Jimmy Fallon that “people are afraid. People are worried.” But while acknowledging the presence of inflation, Biden tried to play down its seriousness.
Biden also blamed the American people’s anxiety on the “inaccurate information” the American people were supposedly receiving. Presumably, Biden was taking aim at those in the media who won’t play along with the Biden administration’s happy talk. But Biden need not worry too much about the mainstream media. Many outlets are doing the Biden administration’s bidding.
CNN’s Don Lemon, for example, was over the moon in celebrating that gasoline prices had fallen from its astronomical level (drum roll, please) by a little over 5 cents since October. A CNN senior business editor propagandized for the Biden administration that “inflation can actually be a good thing for many working-class Americans.”
Biden and his defenders in the mainstream media are insulting the intelligence of the American people, who know first-hand the devastation that Bidenflation is causing in their lives. “The typical family is spending an extra $4,000 this year because of excess inflation,” Jason Furman, a liberal economist who served in the Obama administration, admitted. “It does not seem like much of a mystery why people are upset when they have to spend thousands of additional dollars more because of inflation.”
Indeed, Bidenflation is a sledgehammer hitting everyday Americans where it hurts, as they try to make ends meet day-to-day. The Biden administration’s reckless spending and borrowing, with more to come if Biden’s Build Back Better leftist agenda becomes law, are largely responsible for the economic pain that is devastating hard-working Americans’ lives. Their pain is compounded by Biden’s anti-energy policies. Biden’s answer to the inflation problem that his policies have created is spending trillions of dollars more on wasteful social welfare and green new deal initiatives.
“We’ve been in less than a year. A lot has happened,” Biden told Fallon. A lot has happened, to be sure. But, in addition to runaway Bidenflation, just about everything happening in America on Biden’s watch has been an utter disaster, including:
Uncontrolled flood of illegal immigrants into the United States, many of whom are released to settle in communities across the country without being vaccinated or even tested for COVID-19.
The deaths of approximately 350,000 Americans from COVID19 since Biden took office, despite Biden’s promise “to shut down the virus.”
Surging violent crime in mostly Democrat-controlled cities across the country, which Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki shamelessly blamed on the pandemic.
Loss of energy independence, resulting in U.S. dependency once again on foreign sources of energy along with sharply escalating prices at the gas pump.
Reckless withdrawal of all American troops from Afghanistan. Biden’s hasty retreat resulted in the needless deaths of 13 members of the U.S. military. He left hundreds of American civilians and thousands of Afghan allies behind. And Biden abandoned $80 billion worth of sophisticated military equipment, which is now in the hands of the Taliban terrorists and possibly other U.S. adversaries.
Loss of respect for American strength and determination by foreign adversaries such as China, Russia, and Iran who see Biden as a weak president.
Pushing far left policies that are further dividing Americans along racial, class and political lines, rather than unifying the country as Biden had promised during his presidential campaign and in his inaugural address.
“There’s a lot of anxiety and my job is to be straightforward, shoot from the shoulder, let people know exactly what the truth is, and lay out how I’m going to try to make life better for them,” Biden told Jimmy Fallon with a straight face. Biden and senior members of his administration have been anything but straightforward. They have repeatedly misled the American people.
For example, Biden said that the Build Back Better legislation would cost “nothing” – a complete falsehood that has been debunked by the Congressional Budget Office, whether or not games are played with artificial “sunset” clauses on spending. At minimum, the Congressional Budget Office found that the Build Back Better plan as it currently stands, with its sunset clauses, would add $367 billion in unfunded spending. If the programs were to be extended for a full ten years, a more likely scenario that was originally envisioned by Biden and the Democrats in Congress, more than $3 trillion would be added to the deficit.
Biden called the surge of illegal immigrants “seasonal” while his Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claimed earlier this year that the southern border was “closed,” “secure,” and “not open” – all total lies.
Biden grossly misrepresented his disastrous Afghan withdrawal to the American people as an “extraordinary success,” while falsely claiming that all of his generals were on board with his foolhardy decision. He claimed that al-Qaida was gone from Afghanistan even though the Islamist jihad organization maintained its ties with the Taliban all along and now has its terrorist sanctuary back.
The Biden administration and its spinmeisters in the mainstream media are not fooling the majority of the American people. As Biden’s dismal approval numbers are showing, especially on his handling of the economy, everyday Americans believe what they are experiencing in their own lives rather than the Biden administration’s phony party line
