That was Mexican foreign minister Marcelo Ebrard, after president Trump cut off aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, and threatened to shut down the border with Mexico. The humble Ebrard boasts a back story that will be of interest to President Trump, his supporters, and all U.S. taxpayers.
Marcelo Ebrard was mayor of Mexico City from 2006-2012 and a Mexican presidential hopeful in 2011. For two years Ebrard served as president of the United Nation’s Global Network on Safer Cities and in recent years he decided to become involved in American politics.
“It was after hearing Donald Trump speak,” Ebrard told Francisco Goldman of the New Yorker in November 2016, “that I decided to get much more involved, beyond just giving opinions. The risk represented by el Señor Trump, the things that he says, in particular about Mexico, but in general, too, are like nothing else I’ve encountered.”
According to Ebrard, Mexicans in the USA for three generations still feel threated by the “xenophobia” of Trump. As the Mexican politician said, Trump’s wall “is a publicity scheme,” and “He, like Hitler, is a good communicator.” But as he told the New Yorker, Ebrard “decided to get more involved” by working on Latino get-out-the-vote campaigns on behalf of Hillary Clinton.
As Goldman notes, Ebrard had “previously worked with Voto Latino, and with other voter-registration and participation groups in California, Arizona, Florida, Chicago, and elsewhere, and he is working with those groups again now.” During the 2016 campaign, Ebrard explained, he went “from being a consultant to somebody committed to direct political action.”
So a ruling-class Mexican national openly participates in an American election, deploying “direct political action” on behalf of open-border Democrat Hillary Clinton. This all went down without any charges of collusion or election interference by American politicians and the establishment media.
Trump supporters might imagine, say, former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg comparing Mexico’s “socialist messiah” Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) to Benito Mussolini. Imagine Bloomberg campaigning openly for Antonio Meade, candidate of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional that ruled Mexico for most of the past century.
The chances of such a thing happening are zero but a Mexican politician such as Marcelo Ebrard can conduct “direct political action” for Hillary Clinton with impunity. He conducts the campaign on behalf of millions of false-documented Mexican nationals who entered the country illegally and have no right to vote.
As a State Department investigation confirms, false-documented illegals have been voting in American local, state and federal elections for decades. Ebrard was hoping the illegal votes would put his pro-illegal Hillary Clinton in the White House, but Trump carried the day. When the duly elected President of the United States strives to carry out his duties, Ebrard protests the president’s actions and proclaims Mexico “a great neighbor.”
Mexico is a trading partner but in no meaningful sense an ally of the United States. Mexico’s PRI regimes often sided with the Soviet Bloc during the Cold War and Mexico has provided little if any assistance against Islamic terrorism. This corrupt kleptocracy is now a colonial regime that supports the violation of U.S. sovereignty.
Last year, Mexicans sent back a record, sent $33.48 billion to the Mexican motherland, an increase of 10.5 percent from 2017. That is impossible without massive inputs from American taxpayers. As candidate Hillary Clinton noted, “one-half of undocumented workers pay federal income taxes.” And in states such as California they get a host of government benefits, including in-state tuition. For their part, American taxpayers might also note Mexico’s posture toward Venezuela.
As Andres Oppenheimer notes, nearly 50 nations, including Japan and Switzerland, recognize
Juan Guaidó as Venezuela’s interim president, supporting the restoration of democracy in Venezuela. “The big exception is Mexico,” Oppenheimer explains, and López Obrador, who invited Maduro to his inauguration, “is not even demanding free elections in Venezuela, like his predecessor did.”
Venezuelans are starving and more than three million have fled the country, but Mexican foreign minister Marcelo Ebrard wants “dialogue” and says “we’re not taking sides.” Actually, he is, and leading members of AMLO’s Morena party, the National Regeneration Movement, have long-standing ties with Cuba and Venezuela. As Andres Oppenheimer explains “Morena’s leader Yeidckol Polevnsky has publicly voiced support for the Cuban and Venezuelan dictatorships.” According to ABC Noticias, Yeidckol Polevnsky runs the Morena party, and she has the last word on all candidates.
Meanwhile, at this writing, “a large number of Cuban citizens have joined the predominantly Central American group of travelers making their way to the U.S.” According to Periodico Cubano, about 700 Cubans are linking up with migrants from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Why these Cubans left the land of single-payer health care for Mexico is not explained, but their asylum claims, like those of the others, are bogus.
A “great neighbor” would not chaperone these invaders to the U.S. border, but a neo-colonial regime in league with Cuba and Venezuela will be happy to do so. President Trump now has more reason to shut down the border and protect U.S. sovereignty by any means necessary.
