Paper receipts are destroying the environment. If you’d ever seen a rat with a receipt stuck in its craw, you would weep too.
Sadly, a California environmental measure to make everyone more miserable failed. After banning plastic bags, straws and common sense, the receipt ban did not go through.
The California Legislature had been considering banning paper receipts unless requested by a customer. But a legislative committee voted Friday not to send the legislation to the Senate floor for a vote.
The move means the bill is unlikely to pass this year.
Democratic Assemblyman Phil Ting had criticized the receipts for harming the environment. An aide dressed as a giant receipt stood beside Ting as he announced the bill at a news conference earlier this year
California solved all the big problems leaving it free to focus on the important stuff.
But if paper receipts are banned, what will the crazy bums whom the Democrats have unleashed on California streets wipe themselves with? 9th circuit court decisions? Copies of Alice Walker novels? Taxpayer money?
Senate Appropriations Committee chairman Anthony Portantino said the bill did not get out of committee because it had some problems. He said paper receipts have other uses, such as offering coupons to consumers.
Also, last time I checked, paper is biodegradable. That was the excuse for banning straws and plastic bags.
Is paper no longer good enough for the green mafia?
Assemblyman Phil Ting, who I suspect was invented as a social media prank, tweeted, “I’m disappointed #AB161, my bill to move CA away from wasteful & often toxic paper receipts, will not move forward this year. But glad to have raised awareness about the health & environmental harm receipts can cause. Change often takes time. #SkipTheSlip”
Change takes time. First dismantling segregation. Then banning “toxic” paper receipts.
At least Phil raised awareness. Of what a miserable joke the California Democrat one-party state is.
