9 Democrat-run states, California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington, have moved to ban cars by 2035.
The Biden administration has exploited EPA emissions standards to accomplish the same thing.
The green push to ban cars and force everyone to buy electric vehicles is a core part of the program and also highly unpopular with families struggling with high prices and inflation. Electric vehicles are far more expensive and much less reliable than cars and most can’t afford them.
59% of Americans oppose a ban on cars while only 40% support it. But, in worse news for banners, support for the ban has consistently fallen over the last years by 7% while opposition to it has increased. Republicans and Independents are obviously stalwartly opposed, but even among Democrats, opposition has grown until a third of Dems is opposed.
On a state by state level, opposition remains strong even in states whose Democrat governors unwisely chose to sign on to a 2035 car ban date. In Maryland, 60% opposed Gov. Wes Moore’s car ban while in New Jersey some 58% are opposed including 42% of Democrats. In Washington, 48% opposed Gov. Jay Inslee’s car ban while 38% backed it. Of those who opposed it, 31% were strongly opposed.
In Virginia, which was put on track to a car ban by following California’s illegal emissions mandates, 58% oppose a gas car ban while only 33% support it. Tellingly, while 42% strongly oppose a car ban only 12% strongly support one. Even among Democrats, support and opposition are nearly tied 44% to 43%. In Minnesota, 65% oppose a car ban while only 29% support it. (47% strongly oppose the ban while only 9% strongly support it.)
Nationwide, support for car bans is strongest among urban voters. And yet even there, ban backing never quite tops 50%. In suburban areas, support drops down to 31% and rural areas falls all the way to 24%. That stands to reason because to whatever extent electric vehicles are viable, it’s only in the core density of major urban areas. Outside them, they’re unusable.
Polls also shows support for a car ban is tied to income. Even the cheapest electric vehicles are out of the price range of most Americans. That’s why opposition to car bans climbs for families making less than $40,000 and even those making up to $80,000. The proposed car ban means families being unable to replace their minivan. It means mothers who can’t drop off their kids at school and fathers who can’t drive to work.
A car ban is an extinction level event for American families. If it goes through, 53% of Americans won’t be able to buy a car. Imagine how much their lives will change.
Pro-ban politicians act as if there will be a smooth transition from cars to electric vehicles.
The reality is that electric vehicles are not viable in any way, shape or form. America’s biggest car companies have spent and lost billions trying to make electric vehicles.
Ford is losing $32,000 on every electric car it sells. In 2023, it lost $3 billion on its EV boondoggle. Ford claimed that it will make 2 million electric cars by 2025 (at which point it would then lose $64 billion) but it only sold 61,575 electric vehicles in 2022. GM shut down the Chevy Bolt, its cheapest electric vehicle after losing $7,400 on every one it sold. It promises to profitably sell 1 million electric vehicles in 2025, but it only sold 44,000 at a loss in 2022.
The math on electric vehicles simply does not work. Many people point to Tesla. But the truth about Tesla is it made money through the fines that California imposed on makers and buyers of cars. In 2022, Tesla made $1.78 billion from carbon credit sales. Companies that make actual cars have to buy the credits from Musk’s Saudi company and pass on the cost to consumers.
While subsidizing electric vehicles for the rich by fining working class car owners worked well enough for Tesla, it’s not a pathway to shifting the entire country over to electric cars. What will really happen by 2025 is that the vast majority of Americans will be cut off from the market. They’ll be left trying to keep old cars and used cars on the road for as long as possible.
Why aren’t politicians talking more about this? Some are operating in the D.C. bubble and don’t recognize the profound impact this will have on the lives of hundreds of millions of people. Others see a 2035 deadline as being so far in the future that it doesn’t need to be dealt with now. And still others are constantly reacting to a passing parade of crises and outrages.
Car bans are far from the only issue out there, but it could have a deciding impact in 2024.
Democrats have committed to a policy that is wildly unpopular outside their small base of urban college graduates who idealize 15 minute cities navigated by bike shares. And they’ve done so with limited pushback from a Republican party that is schizophrenic and feckless in its inability to focus, to make a coherent case and to message on the things that actually matter to voters.
The car bans are an act of cultural, social and economic warfare by an urban elite against the rest of the country. If successful, they would make life all but impossible in rural areas, and increasingly challenging in many suburban areas. They would tear apart families, wreck jobs and push struggling people underwater.
Politicians have gone from two cars in every garage to no cars in the garage at all.
It’s hard to think of any single policy to devastating in its scope and so likely to outrage the working class voters that Republicans are trying to court as car bans. And yet Republicans are failing to talk about them because they are as detached as Democrats from the consequences.
Republicans assumed that they would win in 2022 by passively profiting from the miserable economy. The midterms proved that to be a profound miscalculation. If Republicans want to politically profit from the poor economy, they have to do more than put up stickers pointing a finger at Biden. They have to connect the economic misery directly to Biden’s policies.
Car bans could be a deciding factor in 2024, but only if Republicans and moderate Democrats talk about them. Otherwise another disastrous radical policy will bury much of the country.
Hey, after rampant, unpunished crime has driven out all the businesses, this will be a self-correcting problem. There won’t be any reason to drive into these cities.

It would be dangerous to drive downtown LA, SF, Portland, Seattle without one of these self-defense devices. Especially were one to want to drive to one of the many no-go zones that firemen won’t go to without police escort. There are a few in Seattle.

.I know someone who used to build log homes, even in remote places and all by himself. He is a very good builder and incredibly self-reliant. He now has shifted to bullet and bomb proofing courtrooms, jails, law offices, and some corporate offices. It is very expensive but those liberal judges and attorneys benefit from unlimited government money. We have to have legal weasels to protect the left’s agenda.
I cannot believe that there are so many ignorant people in the U.S. government. The American people will only wake up when the United States falls apart completely. Then it will be too late to do anything. Third world, here we come.

It would be interesting to see what type of “cash for clunkers” program the govt will create as the “ban” approaches. Also, I could envision the govt prohibiting garages from repairing any gas powered vehicle over 10 years old along with parts manufacturers having to cease distributing parts for those vehicles in the U.S. . We saw most of America roll over for covid. I don’t think they’re going to be so compliant when forced to turn over their vehicles.
Broken record here but vote fraud impeaching and indicting political opponents, and corruption are all relevant to this. Republicans are not messaging very well because they’re mostly in league with the Democrats. By the grace of God I dodged a bullet. Years ago, I almost went to work for Chrysler. You have to hold many inconsistent and contradictory opinions to be a UAW member.
Car battery replacement is going to be lucrative.
Especially for those Army tanks and Navy aircraft carriers the leftists are pushing for with Austin and Milley. Today, it is reported that only 26% of our F35 fleet is capable of operating in a battle. Wait until our military goes electric. So is rust repair. Right now there are few left that will work on rusty vehicles because they make more money from the insurance work. Just try to find a shop that will do rusted out rocker panels on a pick-up. Oh no, they don’t want to get dirty.
I have a truck that I have owned for 23 years. The rust was getting pretty bad,, in the usual places, so I tried to find a shop that works on rust within a 30 mile radius No such luck. Nobody wanted the work despite telling me that it would cost $5000.00, without ever seeing my truck. So I bought a new truck but kept the old one for dirty duty. One day, by chance, I found someone who loves rust work and makes good money doing it. He has a method of fixing rusted rocker panels, among other areas, that uses special glues and paint to replace the rockers, and prevent them from getting rusty again. He has found paints that don’t allow moisture to destroy the body. His method for fabricating the new rockers, and other parts is genius. He doesn’t weld them, which creates the opportunity for rust. I’m going to rebuild my old truck, and by the way, I love that truck and prefer it to my new one, except for the mileage.
I have a ’91 Chevy pick-up. Rust issues with the rocker panels and cab mounts. Should this ban actually go into effect, vehicles like ours will dominate the roads. Instead of not being able to find a body shop to fix rusting out we’ll be seeing theirs ads touting “expert rust repair” everywhere.
Car bans and most other mastermind ideas are nothing but tyrannical and despotic. They are un-American, but fit the Chinese Communist mold really well. Looks like the Liberty Tree needs watering.

Electric cars have always been an elitist fetish, going back to the 2000s, when hypocrites like Susan Sarandon showed up at the Oscar telecast in a Prius (even though the same hypocrites travel via chartered plane to destinations accessible via commercial flights, buses or trains.
Maybe the greatest disconnect of the 21st century is the reality that so many of the same people who champion electric cars have no interest in, or no clue, how the electricity needed to run them is manufactured, or how much additional power we would need to generate to power HALF the number of vehicles this nation uses on a routine and every much needed basis.
That doesn’t matter. The objective has been determined (save the Earth). The methods used to achieve the goal will be made up on the fly. This is how the leftist mind works, It is also how they destroy everything they touch. Giving them even more governmental control is like signing your own death warrant.

It would be nice if we could have over two hundred million cars all running on the self-regard of Leftists but they don’t. The truth is that the Left has always disparaged the automobile. This goes back at least to John Keats’ 1958 book “The Insolent Chariots” and probably long before. See, the problem is that they give people too much mobility and freedom. I don’t think that these people who want to see the end of internal combustion engine cars will much like their electric cars absent considerable advances in battery and charging technology. But, as Joni Mitchell sang, “You don’t know what you’ve got ’till it’s gone.”
They want the rest of the country not to have physical, social or economic mobility.
They’ll have the transportation they need because their jobs will be essential.
And they want everyone trapped in cities where they can be intimidated, punished, or eliminated more efficiently. Marxism has always been an urban evil. Country folk don’t fall for their lies so easily.

Grass Lawns (AB 1572): This bill begins the outright ban on grass lawns in California by banning them for all commercial, retail, industrial, and governmental parcels and buildings. While there is no implementation date for single family homes (for now), HOA’s are also banned from having grass in common areas! This imposes an enormous cost for landscaping changes – and experts say it will backfire by negatively impacting air quality.
Plastic Cards (SB 728): Small businesses will be negatively impacted by this bill that imposes fines of up to $10,000 per day if a business uses pre-paid plastic gift cards! This virtue-signaling bill will not help the environment, but it will inconvenience small businesses and customers alike! Just so you know the plastic bag ban from 2014 actually INCREASED plastic waste by replacing thin bags with heavy duty bags for 10-cents a pop. Per capita bag waste went from 8 pounds per person to 11 pound per person in 2021 in CA!
Food Bans (AB 418): Continuing their nanny state mindset, CA politicians have banned Skittles and other colored candy that use Red Dye No. 3 and other additives. Perris CA banned stores from putting “junk food” in their checkout aisles – leading two major stores to announce they would close in that jurisdiction. Up next: bans on sugary drinks to minors!
Bans in Process: CA Democrats pushed several bills to next year to ban a number of things including: Police K9 dogs (because they are “racist”), solitary confinement in prison, etc. CA Democrats are phasing in bans on the sale of gas-powered cars, gas-powered leaf blowers, youth tackle football, criminal background checks for employers and landlords, smoking outside, etc.
Natural Gas Appliances: The Biden Administration has swung into overdrive to issue a variety of new regulatory mandates that will help CA politicians win court approval of their costly and intrusive natural gas appliance bans.
In effect, they want to ban rural voters; move everyone into urban centers, just like the Chinese.
I have a much better idea. Let’s ban politicians.

Slightly off topic here. Watched the first ten minutes of Jim Jordan’s Judicial Oversight Committee hearing.
It seems there is no end in sight to the dismantling of the country via the DOJ/FBI and most 3-letter agencies.
The Democrats (Merrick Garland specifically) stonewall, obfuscate, and lie when presented with questions — which of course is to be expected.
J. Nadler’s opening comments were deplorable in that everything he accused the “MAGA extremist party” of doing are precisely what the Democrats have been up to the last 2 1/2 years. If the impeachment trial — should it come to be — unfolds anything like the first 10 minutes of today’s hearing did, the GOP faces a Sisyphean task.
Truth be known, most people do not want electric cars! The Climate change movement wants to replace all gasoline powered engines, the Auto Workers are on Strike, and want outrageous increases in pay and benefits, they should get raises but they want a huge increases. WHY IS THE US SENDING ALL THE JOBS OVERSEAS? . All this is dangerous to the economy. Theres the big push to get you all to buy electric vehicles so the planet can go green and go dark, eliminating fossel fuels too. The planet is in for rude awakening.
Most of the energy used to make the electric vehicles is non-green energy and coming from China, including the batteries. Indeed the Math does not work.
