[Editor’s note: Make sure to read Daniel Greenfield’s masterpiece contributions in Jamie Glazov’s new book: Barack Obama’s True Legacy: How He Transformed America.]
Politicians, the media and environmentalists spent the past week blaming the Maui fires on global warming.
“That level of destruction, and a fire hurricane, something new to us in this age of global warming, was the ultimate reason that so many people perished,” Hawaii Gov. Joshua Green claimed, while ignoring his state’s mismanagement of the disaster and its botched response at every level from the power grid that wasn’t secured to the sirens that didn’t go off.
Winds whipping up a fire isn’t some exciting new disaster, it’s how things have always worked in Hawaii where about 0.5% of Hawaii’s land burns every year. The worst previous Maui fire in 2010 was fed by 40 mph winds. This time the winds hit 67 mph. The bad timing of an electrical disaster with high winds, not ‘global warming’ made for something old, not new.
But the ultimate reason so many people perished is that Hawaii government officials failed in their responsibilities toward the residents and tourists they had been milking all these years.
And, conveniently, decided to blame global warming instead of taking responsibility.
Hawaii’s Sen. Mazie Hirono told CNN that “We very much need to acknowledge that climate change is upon us,” urging the heathen to repent and bow to the exciting new apocalypse.
And the global warming circus and its endless scams was just getting started.
The board chair of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs blamed the fires on the “climate crisis” and “colonialism”. Bloomberg ran an op-ed titled ‘Maui Fires Show Climate Change’s Ugly Reach’.
‘Fire and Fury: The Story of the 2023 Maui Fire and its Implications for Climate Change,’ a book written a few days into the wildfires, shot up the Amazon bestseller list. Its author, ‘Dr. Miles Stones’ appears to have been made up. But, then again, so was global warming.
A security camera captured what started the fires, and it wasn’t ‘climate change’.
A tree fell on a power line, there was an arc flash, a drop in power and the fires began. The sirens didn’t go off and the water wasn’t released in time to properly fight the fires. None of those things had anything to do with a changing climate, but with ideological mismanagement.
But if a tree falls and no one is around to see it, politicians will blame global warming.
Hawaiian Electric claims to be the “most progressive and forward thinking energy company in the world” whose mission was to “act with boldness and urgency, without fear of failure” to “build a sustainable Hawaii”. The massive devastation in Maui is proof of its accomplishments.
The progressive energy company was aware that there were serious wildfire risks, but instead it prioritized green energy programs. It failed to shut off the power in time and its trucks ended up blocking evacuation routes. But at least “the company’s focus on equity includes approaching everything we do with an equitable lens” meant that people burned to death equitably.
Given a choice between the unglamorous business of preventing wildfires or going green, Hawaiian Electric picked the option that was sure to win praise from politicians and environmentalists. Solar panels replaced actual power plants and customers were lectured incessantly about global warming and the environmental stewardship of the company.
Hawaiian Electric CEO Shelee Kimura received environmental awards and boasted of having grown the state’s “clean energy resources”’ and worked to “decarbonize Hawaii’s economy”.
The over 100 dead people have been carbonized now.
The Maui Emergency Management Agency didn’t sound the sirens to warn people to evacuate but its hazard mitigation plan was focused on fighting “climate change”.
As the fires burned, a Hawaii water official blocked release of the water. The official, Kaleo Manuel, an alumnus of the Obama Asia Pacific Leaders program, believes “that ancient wisdom and traditional ecological knowledge of native peoples will help save the Earth.”
Coming to his defense was Earthjustice, originally spun off from the defense lawyers for the environmentalist extremists of the Sierra Club.
While the scale of the fires has attracted attention, they’re not a new phenomenon. .
When the Polynesian colonists, now popularly described as “indigenous” first arrived, they slashed and burned much of the existing grasslands, wiping out whatever existed including the original population, which was killed, eaten or enslaved. The actual indigenous people of Hawaii were born as slaves, had their foreheads tattooed, and were used for human sacrifice.
Some of the leftist descendants of the colonists, heavily intermarried with westerners, have carved out an economic niche denouncing “western colonialism” and upholding “native ways” which usually involve getting an academic or bureaucratic position and pretentiously using Hawaiian terms while bemoaning the utopia that Hawaii could have been without America.
These sorts of activists, collaborating with environmentalists, helped to cause a disaster on Maui, much as their counterparts recently did in Puerto Rico by mismanaging the infrastructure, failing at their most basic responsibilities and then blaming western technology for the mess.
Hawaii’s feudal nobles believed that they were descended from the gods, its new nobility claims to be descended from the oppressed victims of colonialism and technology. They denounce the plantations and champion “native ways of growing crops” which would be unable to support their own population, never mind anyone else, and which aren’t native to Hawaii, but were brought over by their ancestors. Hawaii’s plants are more fire resistant, not because they’re superior to western agriculture, but because they had to survive the Polynesian colonizing wave of arsons.
If the professional indigenous activists are really sincere, they’ll get rid of all the technology and live the way their ancestors did without smartphones, the internet, antibiotics or indoor plumbing. Since that isn’t happening, maybe they can try to manage the technology responsibly instead of allying with leftist environmentalists to undermine the state’s infrastructure.
Climate change and colonialism didn’t cause the Maui wildfires. Environmentalists did.
It’s no coincidence that California and Hawaii were both devastated by preventable disasters. Both one-party states ignored responsible wildfire prevention policies and instead adopted the fashionable dogma that every natural disaster is caused by global warming and that the only way to head off natural disasters is by putting up solar panels and condemning technology.
These environmental policies cost human lives, homes and billions of dollars. In response to disasters caused by their neglect of infrastructure and disaster management due to their belief in global warming, the climate cult blames the resulting catastrophe on global warming.
From Hawaii’s governor on down, global warming is an excuse for corruption and incompetence. Global warming isn’t a problem, those who believe in it are.
Una Salus says
That’s most almost undoubtedly but what is also true is that people in Maui are retards and elsewhere.
Mo de Profit says
Too much wine again?
Annie45 says
Hi Mo – Hope everything is good with you across the pond.
By any chance, have you heard anything about the book
Greenfield mentions in this article “Fire and Fury: The Story
of the 2023 Maui Fire and Its Implications for Climate Change”?
I read somewhere that the book was published 2 or 3 days
after the fire and that how could that possibly be?
Because the author would have to investigate what happened
first which would take months – not 2 or 3 days – then write the
book which would also take weeks – then edit the book – THEN
print the book. But presto! After only a few days after the
fire, the book was for sale. How?!
One might think ‘someone’ in the Commie ranks already knew
an inferno of a fire was about to erupt – and had the book all
ready to go when it did – to push their climate change garbage.
But that would mean the fire and all the agony the people are
suffering would be deliberate.
David Ray says
Good point. The book would be pure idle speculation; just like when Bush43 & Barr said they saw no voter fraud.
Neither this “author” nor those two sell-outs had time (or concern) to conduct research & investigation.
(Bush had conservatives come to his aid in 2000, when Gore tried to steal his election. He didn’t care to return the favor.)
dani says
too busy war mongering
World@70 says
Easy to explain. The left have Climate Change books already written, just fill in the location and type of disaster and it’s ready for publication.
Daniel Greenfield says
Amazon is full of ‘book spam’ where people throw something together to cash in on an event. These days they can use AI to generate a bunch of general essays and then make some money.
The really revealing thing is that people were buying it and it became a bestseller.
dani says
like their dopey t-shirts and bumper stickers, having a collection of useful idiot literature is part of the virtue signalling. When I lived in NYC, I often saw these lost causes reading all sorts of garbage on trains.
Luz Maria Rodriguez says
Well, very interesting.
IF true, we know with certainty that it would not have been the first time the left had a plan of action ready to release at the perfect moment. Actually, such preparation is a bit frightening since it would mean they are extremely organized and set tactically to start their game.
ron says
Suspect you’re the retard.. This whole thing is obviously a manufactured disaster for the purposes of a land grab. How come rich people’s homes were spared? Why are relief supplies being blocked by govt. agencies? Why aren’t true death totals given? Why were firefighters denied water to fight fires? Why weren’t the sirens sounded? Why were police preventing people from fleeing the city? Why is the sheriff in charge of the Las Vegas massacre coverup now in charge of the Maui coverup?
Jeff Bargholz says
Who are you calling a retard. The rest of your comment is logical but what the fuck is that retard shit?
Taylor says
He’s referring to Una Salas’ comment.
Jeff Bargholz says
It’s hard to follow these threads because they’re arranged illogically.
Thanks, though. 🙂

Trust me the best thing you can with these people is tell them what they want to hear. They get very upset otherwise. Sometimes even what you might call vindictive.
Jeff Bargholz says
Leftists always respond to inconvenient facts with anger. You can’t reason with them.
Just hit them, in my opinion. Although I can’t even do that many times. My own mother is a raving Dirtbagocrat leftist.
David Ray says
My mom became a staunch conservative, because she worked for a living, paid taxes, and tired of paying for others who didn’t.
Consider that she also began life in a house with no electricity. & was a grounded gal. (Pampered upbringings tend to produce cosseted leftists.)
Jeff Bargholz says
My mother grew up poor too, with cockroaches in the house. But for some reason she’s convinced that the party of anti-American evil, the Dirtbagocrats, is the party of the people.
Una Salus says
*can do* and they make it extremely easy to tell them what they want hear. That’s not a coincidence between the lines.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Once one of them fooled me, acted conservative, then came out as a raving leftist.
SPURWING PLOVER says
Earth Justice just another group of Eco Freaks who think we should err in the name of saving the so called Endangered species then go and burn up their habitat for nothing typical thinking of these small mined Eco Freaks It seems the Environments worst enemies are the Environmentalists themselves in other words trying to save the Patient by Killing them Instead
Jeff Bargholz says
But…….the dunes sagebrush lizards are endangered by oil fields! We need to save them!
BettyO says
We also need to save the desert tortoise, endangered by all kinds of “fossil” fuel uses.
But wait, acres of solar fields sit on desert land scraped bare. At times a project has been fenced to keep those endangered tortoises from trying to return to their territories destroyed by the earth movers.
We need to save them!
Una Salus says
Maui failed because they trusted the same convenient sources they conveniently trusted to tell them about the outside world. It was a convenience.
Una Salus says
Way too stupid to ever really question what the media is going to tell them. It’s always going to be something external to the wonderful nature that is them.
Chief Mac says
A few years back California had a few similar fires and those killed and displaced thousands. My mother’s house was one of those.
Pacific Gas and Electric collects a fee in every bill to clear the power lines. Well for ten years they did no line clearance and declared the surplus as a shareholder dividend. Now whenever the wind gets above 25 mph and it’s dry (6 months a year) they turn off everybody’s power instead of doing their job.
I world in the energy generation/transmission/distribution world and the level of stupidity at the management level plus their greed is astounding
David Ray says
Interesting point.
Also worth considering that privately owned forests, like those owned by Boise Cascade, don’t burn.
Huge fire breaks & removed dry tinder from the ground work nicely (if they’re still allowed to do that.)
Jeff Bargholz says
They don’t do that in the area where I live. I recently saw a redwood that fell across a river and onto a dirt road for the water company, and the only part removed was the portion on the road.
And don’t get me started on the dead and highly flammable underbrush, which is actually mostly dead.
Daniel Greenfield says
“I world in the energy generation/transmission/distribution world and the level of stupidity at the management level plus their greed is astounding”
And not just there.
But it’s enabled by a regulatory system that focuses on ‘green’ rather than basic safety.
Denise says
I don’t feel the emergency management team actually met the qualification desired for their position. These people actually denied the citizens a chance to escape and refused to supply water to contain the fire. In the first action, the firefighters showed up and left thinking the fire was out. All of these responders failed in a big way. You’re right these fires aren’t new to them or anyone else in this country. This generation lacks training and wisdom.
Joh says
Perhaps if the for profit entity tfst provides power to Cali was less interested in profits.
But if course publicly owned utilities is socialism!!
Can’t have that can we ?
Tionico says
it is my undrstaind that PGE had massive resistance from California’s Ag and land management departments which set policies and lumits on even powerline clearing. In short, PGE were not allowd to deal with encroaching growth as they wished. So blame that one on the Gabbling Nuisance and his almost as evil predecessors. Tne Brown dynasty in California think they own the place.
We had a huge ice storm where I live back about 25 years or so. The equivalent of PGE had been doing clearing all along, but had not been through enough. Millions of homes were without electricity for days in winter (my place had no juice for tne days, daytime highs in the low 30’s). After that, and having to pay travel and overtime for crews comong from two thousand mies away to get thngs restored, they realised “this is stupid”. They readdressed their protocols, and now faithfully every seven years they get to every part of their service area and aggressively remove encroaching growh. We’ve not had a widespread power outage since. Yes trees and truck crashes have taken out service.. for a day or so, and locally only.
I also read from a very credibe source that Hawaiian electric (name close but not perfect) has been taken over by some power conglomerate back east in the US, and they are the ones drivng the loco-wokeo nonsnese. Nor are they beholden to the locals, which now are some five thousand miles away.
Locals should band together and retake their electical system from the wokies. They don’t care, the locals do.
Jeff Bargholz says
Polynesians may be stupid, ugly and brutal, by and large, but they did invent surfing. That’s something, and probably their only accomplishment.
The Environ-mental-cases? All they’ve accomplished is destruction. They’re the dumbest tards who ever lived. Eugenics isn’t all bad.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Yeah, I also liked the long-distance navigation techniques they came up with. Very perceptive of what the ocean and such was telling them.
Jeff Bargholz says
They were good on their rafts, weren’t they? How they crossed the Pacific, I have no idea. I assume most of them died.
I notice they don’t look like Asians or Australio-Melaniesians. I think their ancestors back East all died, except the Maoris on New Zealand, who sure aren’t native to those islands.
Steve says
The green include Dementia Joe, Greta Thunberg and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. You can’t get much more stupid, ugly and brutal than that.
Jeff Bargholz says
Whoever down voted me sucks sweaty Polynesian buttholes and is gay for whales and whatever else the environ-mental-cases love. Maybe the Bay smelt in San Fran bay. Good luck fucking one of those, you weirdo.
Taylor says
>Polynesians may be stupid, ugly and brutal
I see it all the time here in the Bay Area. They’re as bad as Arabs when it comes to a shame/honor complex. Dumb thugs are poster children for clamping down on immigration.
Una Salus says
Anyway, the media is having a field day with this story and it takes zero to win with a worthless opposition like we have.
Una Salus says
Our stellar opposition has absolutely nothing whatsoever to say at all because obviously once the media establishes this line you can only look inhuman contradicting it. And this goes back to Bush in so many ways. Reagan wouldn’t have out up with this crap,
Jeff Bargholz says
Reagan put up with the Beirut bombing which killed three hundred and seven people, American and French military and even some civilians.
I like Reagan but he was no hero.
THX 1138 says
Not to mention Reagan’s Illegal Alien Amnesty. But Reagan was a Christian which means that when push came to shove he would have to choose Christian altruism over America’s self-preservation.
From the Sherman Act to today, the altruist-collectivist-religious conservatives, have always been the major destroyers of America.
Today, all the major American Christian Churches (Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Episcopalian, Lutheran) are as we speak at the border and all over the country aiding and abetting Joe Biden in his Illegal Alien Invasion of America. The Christian Churches are all eagerly receiving hundreds upon hundreds of millions of tax-payer dollars from the Biden administration to help the illegal aliens invade and destroy America.
There is in effect no longer a separation of Church and State in America. The Christian Churches are united with Joe Biden in destroying America all in the name of Holy Altruism.
Tionico says
WHAAAT are yoo tawkin ’bout?
You paint all the corrupted organisational sects with the boroad brush of being “christian” then rant about their evils when you have no idea what a true christian is or believes or does. Truebelievers will take seriously the stewardship charge given us by the God who made us and put us here.
Jeff Bargholz says
Reagan’s trust of the Dirtbagocrats caused wet back amnesty, not his altruism.
Daniel Greenfield says
Every Republican administration contemplates amnesty at some point because that’s what a big portion of its donors want.
They want cheap labor.
Then they figure out how to try and sell it to their base.
Whoever the next Republican in the White House will be, he will flirt with amnesty at some point. If there’s enough pushback from the base, he’ll drop it.
If not, we’ll get amnesty. in the form of a ‘bipartisan compromise’ negotiated by senators looking to trade cheap labor for cheap votes.
Happens every decade.

Unless I’m mistaken, isn’t one of the world’s largest, most active volcanoes, Mount Kilauea, in Hawaii? Constantly burping-up red-hot liquid lava 24/7/365, and one of the islands’ most famous tourist attractions?
I was always under the impression that natural geothermal energy was the ideal, and a favorite of the Zero-Carbon Enviro-Nuts. Isn’t it?
Then how come Hawaiian Electric hasn’t drilled into the side of Kilauea, and installed steam generators and electric-generating turbines there, to harness the unlimited natural heat and power of this magnificent, all-natural, zero-carbon resource?
Oh, I almost forgot: The EPA would object and block such an idea, and sue, on the basis that such a project would “destroy the Environment,” while Kaleo Manuel, “a native Hawaiian,” would claim that it would “offend the fire gods of the mountain”…and then add that such a project would prevent the “natives” from “practicing their ancestral religious practice” of throwing virgins into the fiery caldron, “to ensure fertility.”
Silly me for even contemplating such an offensive idea as using the volcano’s enormous, unlimited heat to serve human ends!
Daniel Greenfield says
Maybe we could feed the volcano a regular supply of pink hat brigade activists in exchange for some ‘red energy’
Jeff Bargholz says
Let’s find an active volcano in CA! Or just start some bonfires.
Jeff Bargholz says
Pele is the mythological Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes.
Mo de Profit says
It’s sad to see what the environmental movement has become, I personally studied environmental science at Keele University in the uk but it was in the days when we were encouraged to question everything.
There has been some major destruction of the environment of that there’s no doubt but what we learned was that in order to “green” anything you need relatively wealthy communities, the poorer the nation the worse it’s environment becomes.
Take a look at a satellite map of the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic and the border is visible from space.
Oh, and nobody who questioned the science believed in global warming at the time it was seen then as hysteria probably because we all remembered the new ice age that the same scientists predicted in the 70’s.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Thanks Mo, very interesting!

Check out the book “Cobalt Red” by professor Siddharth Kara.
It describes how mining the minerals leaves land & it’s laborers in a hellscape.

I used to work in a strip mine in the high desert part of the Mojave. Animals came from all around to benefit from the water and game we had there. Coyotes (of course,) jack rabbits, burros, cougars, and somehow, even catfish found their way into our “pond.”
Animals benefit from humanity. Just look at the crows.
Daniel Greenfield says
“There has been some major destruction of the environment of that there’s no doubt but what we learned was that in order to “green” anything you need relatively wealthy communities, the poorer the nation the worse it’s environment becomes.”
That was also Marx’s position on his own economic theories.
Tionico says
I was there when that “ice age” was predicted. I laughed, knowing they were full of hot brown stuff. That fairy tale never really gained traction, it being supplanted by the more interesting “warming” threat just a few years later. I laughed at that one, too, having studied geophysics and planetary physics at that same institution.
Luz Maria Rodriguez says
And they ignore that thermonuclear thingy in our sky.
Miranda Rose Smith says
“Hawaai’s plans are more fire resiistanrr.” Don’t you mean “Hawaii’s PLANTS?.”

I am just thunderstruck at what the Commie Hiwaiian leaders are saying.
Governor Green, U.S. Sen. Hirono, the board chairman of Hiwaiian affairs –
‘that fire hurricane destruction is new in this new age of global warming,
THAT’S why so many perished’ ‘Climate change is upon us’ ‘the fires
are from the climate crisis and colonialism’. WTF does that mean?!
That it could happen again at any time because of climate change/
global warming (allegedly caused by White capitalist non-equitable
industrial pollution and technology) – and we’re helpless against it?!
These commies seem willing to let people die to impose their tyranny –
especially since turning off power – distributing water – turning on sirens –
and not blocking evacuation routes could have saved lives.
A hundred people are dead and over 800 remain missing. Think of
someone you love being among them to get some inkling of what they’re
enduring. They’re too shell shocked to actually listen to what the Commie
cruds are saying. But the rest of us can hear the lies loud and clear.
Daniel Greenfield says
The politicians are shifting the blame from their own mismanagement to a ‘global crisis’ that only their politically connected firms and regulators can save us from by raising the price of cars until no one can afford them, banning most disposable plastic products and other exciting plans to reduce us to feudalism.
And then every time a disaster happens, they’ll blame the people who still aren’t going along.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Yay! Great article, thanks Daniel!!!
I noticed already in the early 1980s or late 1970s that the left was trying to incite the “native” Hawaiians against the others.

good advice, but that foul state make it near impossible to legally do so. Part of why I will never visit there. If I cannot bring along my personal protective device, I’ll not go.

Yeah, I don’t want to vacation in Hawaii either. Manado in Celebes, Indonesia, is much farther away but has just as good diving and the Indos are mostly friendly. And small. And for some reason there aren’t many sharks there. Lots of sea turtles, which I think is cool. Tuna too, which is weird because they’re mostly deep ocean fish.
And those parrot fish I used to see on Jacques Cousteau in coastal reefs? The best tasting fish I’ve ever had. And the Indos have countless sambals (salsas) that make most anything delicious.

All godless pagans and all founders of Western Civilization.
The writings of Cicero were crucial to the Founding Fathers. The philosophy of Aristotle is the basis for freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of personal happiness. Aristotle, not Moses or Jesus, is the father of the idea that man’s highest moral purpose is the pursuit and achievement of his personal happiness, here on earth, in this life, and this reality.
“For Aristotle, the good life is one of personal self-fulfillment. Man should enjoy the values of this world. Using his mind to the fullest, each man should work to achieve his own happiness here on earth. And in the process he should be conscious of his own value. Pride, writes Aristotle—a rational pride in oneself and in one’s moral character—is, when it is earned, the “crown of the virtues.”
A proud man does not negate his own identity. He does not sink selflessly into the community. He is not a promising subject for the Platonic state.
Although Aristotle’s writings do include a polemic against the more extreme features of Plato’s collectivism, Aristotle himself is not a consistent advocate of political individualism. His own politics is a mixture of statist and antistatist elements. But the primary significance of Aristotle, or of any philosopher, does not lie in his politics. It lies in the fundamentals of his system: his metaphysics and epistemology….
There is no future for the world except through a rebirth of the Aristotelian approach to philosophy. This would require an Aristotelian affirmation of the reality of existence, of the sovereignty of reason, of life on earth—and of the splendor of man.
Aristotle and Objectivism agree on fundamentals and, as a result, on this last point, also. Both hold that man can deal with reality, can achieve values, can live non-tragically. Neither believes in man the worm or man the monster; each upholds man the thinker and therefore man the hero. Aristotle calls him “the great-souled man.” Ayn Rand calls him Howard Roark, or John Galt.” – Leonard Peikoff

Greek philosophy, your foundation and bedrock of the rational and scientific beginnings and aspects of Western Civilization, folded like a cheap suit in the face of the spread of Christianity, which absorbed the teachings of your pagan heroes. Your heroes worshiped many Gods. So what is your problem with God?
Western Civilization could not have existed with out Christianity. Without Christianity Greek history would resemble those ruins that everyone takes selfies at. Without Christianity no one would remember or care about the Greeks.

I noticed as the flames were still raging that the legacy media wasted ZERO minutes to pull out the “global warming” narrative. And they wonder why we don’t take them seriously.
Yesterday, it was revealed that an ABC News online headline was forcibly changed at the behest of the Biden administration.
ORIGINAL: “Maui Wildfires Can’t Be Blamed On Global Warming”
NEW & IMPROVED: “Maui Wildfires Can’t Be Blamed Solely On Global Warming”
News crews are still being kept at arms length in attempt to scrub the evidence, but the word is already out. The genie is out of the bottle. Democrats being Democrats named a man with no experience to be Maui’s Disaster Chief and, upon his resignation press conference, stated that he had no regrets not sounding the alarm sirens because “people would have died anyway”. Nice.
Having witnessed preventable wildfires in California while I was stationed there, I met a member of the forestry service one time and asked him why the state didn’t clean up dead brush and fallen trees like other states. “They make equipment now that can easily do it. It’s not manual labor anymore”, I said.
“Talk to the idiots in Sacramento” was his reply.
Daniel Greenfield says
“Yesterday, it was revealed that an ABC News online headline was forcibly changed at the behest of the Biden administration.”
I missed that one. Can you tell me more about the Biden role in this?
maryanne t. says
I’m still puzzled (or wary) over Biden’s response or lack of to the Maui fires. Before he was forced to go to Maui, there was either silence or “no comment”, so inappropriate.
And the 700.00 per household offering, despicable, how insulting, insensitive, and, well, despicable (I tend to repeat myself when enraged).
Am i reading too much into FJB’s response ?
Daniel Greenfield says
Biden doesn’t care. But we know that already. The caring is a thin political act. As is the restoration of ‘decency’.
He’s a corrupt crooked old hack who doesn’t care about anyone outside of perhaps his family.
He’s having a good time being the center of attention.
That’s about it.

Hey Daniel. That nugget came from Monday’s ‘Louder With Crowder’ podcast. According to them, administration insiders gave ABC execs the “I thought we were friends” guilt trip, then suddenly the headline was changed. Only Dems can get away with tight reins on the forth branch.
RS says
Right on. Cleaning away dead brush needles, and other debris that are dry and flamable, eliminates more chances of fires.
Tionico says
Close but still no cigar. Such cleanup work does not eliminate the chances of fire. It will happen anyway. Housefires, car crashes, and the most common by far, lightning strikes. BUT what the cleanup DOES do and why it is so critical is keeping the normal inevitable firers from becoming massive disasters that burn millions of acres, whole towns, et. Low brush safety permiters DO prevent fires from marshing for undreds of miles once they (inevitably) dostart.
Ugly Sid says
The Department for the Study of Science at U of Hawaii has concluded that suppression of colonialism based wildfires is achieved by tossing conservatives into active volcanoes.
Mazie Hirono is denouncing the slow walking of this obvious remedy.

Excellent column. Should be mandatory reading for our “leaders,” our garbage “news media,” and all citizens who think that “climate change” is responsible for wildfires. This illustrates a major problem in Western societies and the Left. The Left has a theory and tries to fit everything into it rather than taking facts and trying to discover the reason for them. Of course, having a theory that “explains” everything always allows them to claim the mantle of being right and noble in their own minds.
Daniel Greenfield says
Thank you. The Left is all theory. Every event is twisted to validate their worldview and used to demand more power.
A natural disaster is never about their leaders taking responsibility, but about telling the rest uf us that we have to submit to leftist power or we’ll all burn.
THX 1138 says
Before Thomas Aquinas separated faith from reason, theology from philosophy, reason was the mere handmaiden of faith. If the conclusions of reason contradicted the claims of faith, reason was rejected and silenced,
“Secular” Leftism (it is not secular but mysticism pretending to be secularism) is like Christianity before the Thomist-Aristotelian Renaissance, reason is the mere handmaiden of Leftism, if reason contradicts Leftism it is rejected and silenced.
Leftism is mysticism, religion, and faith in disguise.
Daniel Greenfield says
Leftism is secular religion.
It’s commonplace in a post-religious age.
You’re one example of it.
Intrepid says
Objectivism is simply one woman’s mysticism and faith badly disguised. It is your religion and your faith. It is your parasite. Go to France where they still embrace “reason” as the god bringing liberty, brotherhood and equality. They don’t mention freedom
You will live and die on what you think is “reason.” That is your god. It is a flimsy, easily conquered god as well, as history has proven. But Christianity and Judaism go on and on.
You are a sad little man.
Steve says
The wildfires regrettably didn’t burn with “equity”. They spared the palatial spreads of Oprah and Obama. Sort of like a mudslide in Malibu that left Barbra Streisand unscathed. Sad and inequitable.
Daniel Greenfield says
The wildfires spared Obama and Oprah as an anti-racist action to compensate for the legacy of slavery, but vented the wrath on everyone who isn’t black to uphold the tenets of BLM that all lives don’t matter.

Global warming (we used to call it seasons) is the new flat earth theory or like saying the sun revolves around the earth and they are perfectly willing to burn you alive to prove it. The big ‘tell’ in all of this is the governments response, nil to none.! Who ordered a stand down for military aid and much need assistance?
Snowfrog says
My concern is that a similar tragedy of the woke will occur when China challenges our military. The military leaders will try to explain why our military is so ineffective and won’t factor in that they allowed wokeness to destroy our warriors. They will blame this or that but won’t admit that they destroyed the fighting spirit of our warriors with their preoccupation with equity instead of hard core discipline that warriors need.!
We cannot accept social experiments with the only line of defense of our freedom. The woke will never admit that they were at fault. We must stop them immediately. Period. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

Back in the days of our kicking the Brits off the continent we were in open war with Britain. There was a chap named Daniel Morgan, who led a VERY small elite fighting force known as Morgan’s Riflemen. There was only ONE qualification to join his elite force. He would show up in various towns, and anyone wishing to join his group would be handed a wooden shingle, told to walk down the road and nail that shingle up on that tre down there, at 250 yeards distance. He would then wallk back to Daniel, who wolud tell him to load his own musket, take one cold-bore shot at that shingle he just tacked up. If that shot split the shingle, he was in. If it missed, well, you can come back next year and try again.
For perspective, the Redcoats were trained to identify a range of about 75 yards and ordered never to fire at any target seen at a greater range than that, as you cannot hit it anyway.
Morgan’s men were key force in many of the great battles of our war for independence. They would remain at distance, identify and pick off the leading officrs and commanders, take them out one by one. The barmy Brits had a system of command running upward to the commanding officer of that operation. Until/unless the Brit foot got an order, they would doexactly what they’d been told to do.. if they’d been told nothing they would failthfully do nothing. The tactic adopted by the Colonial fores was to “cut off the head of the snake” take out the officers, enlisted men would do the nothing they were bing commanded to do.
Today;s military are barely equipped to follow orders. There is little sense of initiative, of taking responsibility, or assessing a situation and actiing most effectively to deal with it. They follw orders on pronouns, wokeism, sexual perversions, accepting anything thay are told to accept.. but no heart. And this MO ooes upward all the way to the Commander in CHief who is as noncommittal, incompetent, and self-centred as the Hawaiian “uffishuls” we are now observing. The results WILL be similar as thnigs continue forward in this vein.

Only morons, and the demented, they understood, would grin and bear it when their land and communities were burning to the ground, would do nothing out of fear of angering Vulcan, and other pagan deities. Tikkun Olam teaches that with God’s help we should fight against incipient tragedies like Maui. do whatever it takes to prevent loss of life and property. Hi Steve, A lowly digging-in-mud geologist/geophysicist here. The Earth is a dynamic & complex system. What would have happened, two and a half years ago, it even twenty million Americans, when ordered to close their resturants, hobby shops, music stores, put on those foul mug nappies, stop all gatherings, and roll up your left sleeve for their shots, had stood there calmly and said No. NO. You did not hear me, HELL NO NOW GO AWAY.
We did not. And right there lies the problem.

Some of us did. I travelled, unvaccinated, through a good portion of America during ’21, saw most people, small towns mostly, living life normally.

Climate change is an agenda, its the left’s new religion. What disastrous mis-judgment and flawed thinking on the part of the secular woke left., what happened to rationality, warning systems, evacuations, lack of using water for fires? Covid lockdowns set the gold standard. Many felt they could trust government to be for the people, but what a rude awakening, nothing could be further from the truth. Climate change is about advancing an agenda. Now the lockdown mentality resurfaces for the Green dragon. Who is actually destroying the planet here??????? Many caved to the Covid insanity lockdowns and destroyed their businesses and children’s ability to go to school, go to a game, or go to church…….Government doesn’t know best. when the economy is sacrificed. for a virus……We will be persecuted for our carbon footprint now for not heating with solar panels, and rejecting electric vehicles. These are just Covid policies reborn. Fukishema power plant claims they will dump their radioactive nuclear waste from the last meltdown of nuclear reactors into the ocean. What kind of craziness is this?
Daniel Greenfield says
That’s big government and the left in a nutshell.
1. Declare an imaginary crisis with no end or clear metrics in sight.
2. Seize total power in the name of fighting the crisis.
3. Criminalize any dissent because it undermines fighting the crisis.
The bigger the crisis, the more power they can seize. The destruction of all life on earth is even bigger than COVID.
That’s why the whole environmentalist hoax devolved into a death cult.
Barbara says
The fires happened because there was dry brush and extreme winds. If they had continued irrigation and farming, these fires wouldn’t have happened. You would think that “green” people would be anxious to grow food locally to keep energy costs down. However, the local Hawaiian extremists may object to irrigation since the water is sacred. What impractical ideologies!
Daniel Greenfield says
The Hawaii activists hate plantations where things actually are grown and do everything possible to sabotage them and close them down.
That’s what refusing to release the water was about.
Then they pursue vanity ‘traditional’ agriculture that is a waste of time and money, and water, while accomplishing nothing.
Tionico says
the water is “sacred” but the many lives its use could/would have saved are not. Got it. Thanks so much for curing my iggorunts.

As for Maui Electric, simple one word solution, “UNDERGROUND”… All the wasted dollars spent on green initiatives and climate change should have gone to an underground retro-fit, disaster averted. Take a look at your neighbors in Kapalua, developed in late 70’s, underground utilities. Not rocket science.
Daniel Greenfield says
Sure, but putting cables underground is a big project that requires competent leadership.
Green nonsense takes none of that. You just announce meaningless initiatives and spread the money around to buy carbon credits and put up some solar panels.
Look at California’s rail to nowhere project. When something requires actual infrastructure and planning, the system is hopeless.
Green energy is easy though because nothing never actually needs to get done.
Jeff Bargholz says
I watched the video of a tree supposedly falling on a transformer, or generator or whatever it was. You couldn’t see any tree fall. (I think that’s a bullshit excuse by the authorities and power company) but you could see a bright flash well above ground level.

Green energy alone, wind and solar alone, cannot sustain this planet or the people in it! Its supplemental…… More people will suffer because of loss of power, or total blackouts. We’ll be back to the dark ages.

Came accross a lengthy podcast by Robert Malone a few days back, featuring two locals with a long history of right thinking, and it was very enlightening.
One of then, on the topic of the hurrucane “involved” took the time to go back over NOAA’s weather maps tracking the hurricane from the coast of Baja Clifornia all the way across to and past Hawaii. The nearest this modest storm came to Maui was 800 miles, and t that distance the winds were in the neighbiurhood of 40 mph in every direction from the eye of that storm. He sequnced screen shots, overlaid with lat/lon, and Hawaii land masses. Hurricane was NOT a factor of any signficance. He then addressed the “climat echange” canard. He got annual everage tems from that region going back into the 1930’s. Highest temps were in the high 80’s F, lowest in low 70’sF. Decadal averages wereh then calculated, going back to 1930’s EVERY YEAR fell between 79 and 82 F for an average. Got tems recent to the hurricane… 80 to 82 F. Compared average rinnfalls as well, similar results. In other words, going back 80 years current conditions at time of fire were near the mean of all tamps recorded in that time. Global warming? What a sick lie.
The other chap recalled how he had been with the USMC back just after the VietNam conflict, training on one of the islands very nar Maui. Their activites ignited a brushfire which quickly grew. They used what water thay had with them, realised it was getting out of hand, radioed Ford Field/Pearl Harbor. 45 minutes later two Chinooks with huge firefighting water dip type watar bags were just offshore, fillong their bags, and in less than tw hours were on their way home, fire OUT. TThat same type of aircraft and attachments are right now sitting on the tarmac, forty five minutes away from where the Maui fire got out of control. No one called them. There is no limit to the amount of seawater availble minutes away from that fire.
Of course, that only would possibly account for ONE of the four najor fires that day. He had done some signficant research n the other three fires on Maui at the ame time, and clearly established that all four were seriously mismanged, or not managed at all. ALL could easily have been controlled/extinguished in a very short time. He also detailed government responses preventing escape and other mitigations. Both have lived on Maui for decades. They know too well those poohbahs “in charge”.

Lahaina is, am told, a very dry & hot place; it means ‘cruel sun’ in Hawaiian, doesn’t it? Otherwise, HI is lush, rainy & humid – subtropical.
Anyhoo, you’re more charitable than me. I blame not just the incompetent & woke politicos & the radical bureauc-rats but the people (sheeple). They vote for these creeps, don’t they? And, support the imbecilic policies of the pols, power company & the loony divination about sacred water equity by the obamabot Kaleo M. He should be indited for manslaughter & hanged on the old charred banyan tree! Or at least tarred & feathered & thrown into the ocean! Not to mention the woke troglodyte gov Green. He’s M.D. & Jewish, ain’t he? Creatures like him & Hirono (quite fugly) & the wokes, et al, may turn the stomach of YHWH Himself, me thinks.

“Fire and Fury: The Story of the 2023 Maui Fire and its Implications for Climate Change,’ a book written a few days into the wildfires, shot up the Amazon bestseller list. Its author, ‘Dr. Miles Stones’ appears to have been made up. But, then again, so was global warming.”
Wow, that’s even more suspicious than the appearance of Klaus Schwab’s 260-page book, “Covid-19: The Great Reset,” just four months into the pandemic. It’s almost like these books are written in advance, or with advance warning of the crisis, so that they just need to be tweaked a bit with up-to-date information. The basic themes are set in advance.
RS says
Dead brush, along with dry needles, dead vegetation, and other foliage is highly flamable and the environmentalists know this. NO WONDER THERE ARE SO MANY MAJOR FOREST FIRES. If they were good Stewards of the land in preventing forest fires, the earth would be respected again. They pretend to be keepers of the land and promote safe environments, but their neglegence has abused Mother Earth.. and produced quite the opposite. They use Science in many false ways. to move the Green global agenda forward. The Grass and underbrush in Maui was another tinder box…..that and not shutting down the power, sounding an alarm for evacuation, and supplying water where it was needed. What are the numbers of children who were victims in this firestorm? Shouldn’t there be a list now of who is missing? Where are the inquires of the parents?
RS says
The former Sugar Cane fields were let go and grass took over the areas. They went to other islands to raise sugar cane and make it cheaper.

True. Sugar cane was seen as bad. Evil American capitalists were cashing in on it and ‘destroying’ the sacred land.
This was so much better.
DC says
This is worse than just gross mismanagement.
Fire alarms failed to sound.
Water to the fire zone was turned off.
Power was left on in an extreme wind storm.
Police would not let people leave burning neighborhoods.
The police chief who presided over the Las Vegas mass shooting cover-up in 2017 is somehow amazingly directing the Maui arson cover-up TODAY…..in Maui!
