The media isn’t just the enemy of the people. It’s the enemy of facts, truth and integrity. And, believe it or not, the media can do plenty of non-Trump and non-Republican fake news. Especially CNN which is half as reliable as a broken clock and twice as malicious, mendacious and malignant.
CNN had scored with ”Escape from the Mayo Clinic” a series on a mother who supposedly escaped from the Mayo Clinic with her adult daughter. Throughout the story, CNN kept mentioning that the Mayo Clinic had sought guardianship of the daughter, but not why. It turned out that there’s a few very pertinent details that CNN had left out of its story.
Mayo told MPR News it told CNN of its concerns about the mother during a three-hour, off-camera meeting. Specifically, the hospital said they were worried that the mother:
• Was unwilling to learn how to care for her daughter once she was released from Mayo.
• Resisted the doctor’s advice that the teen be taken off of opioids.
• Was physically aggressive with Mayo staff.
Those sorts of things can be in dispute, but…
Occasionally, Mayo seeks guardianship for a patient, it said. In this case, officials first were working with the patient’s father, Harper said. However, after he backed out, Mayo sought an emergency guardianship in county court.
Why was such a thing needed? The CNN story expresses bafflement, but it turns out that…
In its statement, Harper acknowledged it declined an on-camera interview with CNN “because doing so would bring negative publicity to a vulnerable adult in a suspected abusive family environment.”
Is there any evidence of that?
Last month, a Martin County judge issued an order removing the Mayo patient’s five younger half-siblings from her mother’s care, according to the court filing citing a series of reports of neglect, physical and emotional abuse.
The court records also said the mother tested positive for methamphetamines and amphetamines in late July when a county official visited her home in Sherburn to investigate child abuse reports. At that time the children were removed from her care and placed in the care of their father, who is also the patient’s stepfather.
Now that’s one side of the story. These things are often complicated. But it appears that CNN chose not to report on some very damning pieces of information. But that made for an entertaining story. And truth is overrated anyway. Sometimes it’s just more fun to report that an apple is really a banana. And how dare Trump call the media “fake news” anyway. They only fake it 23 hours out of every day.
