At this point it feels like the thousandth such case.
There’s been an undeniable rash of fake hate crimes on campuses. And we really should be talking about them and the consequences of hate crime theater.
Here’s how it started.
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Goucher College students want answers and accountability after someone scrawled a racial slur in a campus bathroom.
Students rallied on the college’s campus Friday afternoon, two days after a threatening racial slur appeared on the wall of a dorm bathroom.
But students say it’s more than that, they say it’s a hate crime that’s made them scared to walk alone around campus.
Students rallied with signs that said, ” I am student 104.”
“She said that, apparently, someone had come into the bathroom earlier that night, and wrote a racist slur on the wall, which said I’m going to kill all n*****s, and it listed three room numbers. My room number was one of them,” Jones said.
On Wednesday, Baltimore County Police knocked on his door to make sure he was alive, he said, after students reported the hostile act of vandalism.
“It kind of sunk in that someone wanted to kill me because of the color of my skin,” Jones said.
By now you can guess the rest of the story.
A black college lacrosse player has been arrested in connection with two incidents of racist graffiti found in a dorm on the Goucher College campus in Maryland.
Fynn Ajani Arthur, a 21-year-old from Brunswick, Maine, was charged with two counts of malicious destruction of property on Thursday night in Baltimore County.
Thursday’s graffiti depicted swastikas, the letters ‘KKK’ and appeared to include the last names of four black students, including Arthur. The previous graffiti reportedly said all ‘n*****s’ on campus would be killed.
Senior Cydnii Jones told the Sun the graffiti incidents were merely symptoms of Groucher’s larger issue of racism on campus.
No doubt. Just not the way that she means.
