Cornel West shouldn’t have had an academic career, let alone tenure at more Ivy League schools than you can shake a graduate degree at.
Cornel West is the author of “The Ethical Dimensions of Marxist Thought” and got a doctorate in philosophy for his aforementioned dissertation on the ethical dimensions of an ideology that killed millions of people in which he mentioned “the profound tragedy of the epochal change in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe” and argued that, “Marxist thought becomes even more relevant after the collapse of Communism in the Soviet Union.”
West wrote that his academic career had been partly concerned with, “defending sophisticated Marxist theory as an indispensable, though by itself inadequate, weapon in the struggle for individuality and democracy”
Despite all this, West is considered a major academic. He’s got tenure at Princeton and Yale. And he’s got issues with Jews.
In Black Anti-Semitism and the Rhetoric of Resentment, an article that West wrote for Michael Lerner’s Tikkun, he blamed black antisemitism on, among other things, “the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza… and the visible conservative Jewish opposition to… affirmative action.”
Now, West is blaming Harvard’s failure to grant him tenure on…. the Jews.
“Is Harvard a place for a free Black man like myself whose Christian faith & witness put equal value on Palestinian & Jewish babies- like all babies- & reject all occupations as immoral?” West tweeted.
It’s an odd argument to make that West’s opposition to the Jewish State is at issue. It amounts to blaming the Jews. What’s his evidence for that?
“Harvard spokesman Jonathan Swain said he could not comment on the specifics of the offer the university made to West but gave details on the process he recently underwent.
“Following normal procedures, a faculty committee from both schools to which West is affiliated recently recommended his reappointment at his current rank, a decision endorsed by the deans of both schools and the university provost, Swain said. West was notified and the university hopes he accepts, he said.
“West was also recently appointed to the Victor S. Thomas Professorship of Public Philosophy, an endowed chair position, at the Harvard Divinity School, the university said.”
Clearly, the Jews are really keeping him down.
“What I’m told is it’s too risky,” West claimed. “And these are quotes. It’s too fraught. And I’m too controversial.”
What quotes were those? Might it have been the time that West used racial slurs to refer to Obama?
Like the time he called Obama, “a Rockefeller Republican in blackface” and a “brown-faced Clinton”.
Or the time he suggested that he agreed with 9/11 Truthers?
There’s no problem being at Harvard and hating Israel. That doesn’t offend the Left. But Cornel West’s attacks on fellow lefties have gone pretty far. Instead of acknowledging that and even taking pride in it, Cornel West decided to imply that it was the Jews.
That’s typically disgusting and antisemitic.
