The Clinton clan may have reached its political nadir, but their fundraising policies are alive and well, and raising money in Mexico.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez plans to hold party fundraising events with the American expatriate community in Mexico City next month.

Perez will participate in three events in the Mexican capital on Sept. 28, according to invitations obtained by Bloomberg News. The events range from happy hour drinks with a $25 minimum student entry to a dinner where tickets range from $1,000 to $15,000.

The registration form on the DNC website require that attendees be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and enter passport or green card numbers. It is illegal for foreigners to contribute to American political campaigns. 

The term “expat” may be somewhat elastic as the DNC invite shows.

Hasmir Popat is a Clinton Foundation donor. He’s also a regular contributor to Democrat causes and Top Perez made him one of his diversity DNC nominees. An ESPN story about his purchase of Kobe’s mask mentions that he “spent his formative years in the Netherlands”.

His Facebook profile, which contains photos of Popat with Bill and Hillary Clinton, Obama and Joe Biden, calls him a, “World Citizen & Traveller, NBA, Refugee, Democrat, DNC Member.”

His country of origin remains unstated. But is quite possibly India. Popat may be an Indian Muslim. But no information appears online about that.

Describing him as an “expat” though seems to be pushing it.

Julissa Reynoso is a Dominican immigrant, a former Paul Soros fellow, who got a job with the State Department, and is a regular Dem donor.

In 2008, calling herself a “ferocious Hillary [Clinton] supporter,” Manhattan attorney Julissa Reynoso donated the maximum to Clinton’s presidential campaign and actively worked on it before joining the campaign of Barack Obama. She was rewarded soon after the election, as she was tapped to become Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central America and the Caribbean in the State Department Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs as of November 16, 2009.
