Say what you will about the UK, but they do Orwell so much better than Americans can even dream of doing Orwell.
A Championship club has threatened to issue a lifetime ban to a supporter for booing while players took a knee this week.
As reported by Sportsmail on Tuesday, clubs have been using CCTV to identify supporters who jeer the pre-match gesture in support of racial equality since the return of fans this month.
“Racial equality”.
And one second-tier club have reviewed video footage and witness statements to identify a fan who, pending an investigation involving the club’s equality and diversity chief, could become the first supporter in the country to be permanently barred from a stadium for booing as players took the knee.
Nothing like using surveillance to catch the occasional working class miscreant who boos the racist millionaires protesting their “oppression”.
You would think the irony here would be overwhelming, but chiefs of equality and diversity are as immune to the thing as the editors of Pravda. This is after all the country where Orwell was already canceled because his great-grandfather owned slaves.
Distant relations of Lord Byron, Oscar Wilde and George Orwell are also being investigated under the initiative, set up in response to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Byron is listed because of his great-grandfather, a merchant who owned an estate in Grenada, and an uncle who owned a plantation.
Orwell was included because his great-grandfather had been a slave owner in Jamaica.
Equality will be achieved when surveillance cameras in your television are watching you all the time to make sure you’re taking a knee for racial equality.
