Interviewing the victim of a crime makes sense in a case where there is to be a trial or the victim knew the perpetrator and could shed some light on his motives.
The man who tried to assassinate Trump is dead. Trump never knew him. Why the FBI chat?
The FBI is seeking to interview former President Donald Trump in its investigation of the assassination attempt to obtain a victim statement — a standard part of the investigation because he is a crime victim, according to a US official.
So are the other people wounded in the attack? Is the FBI interviewing them? And to what end?
There’s no trial so a victim impact statement serves no purpose. Here, according to the DOJ, is the role of the statement.
The Victim Impact Statement is an important part of the Presentence Investigation Report (PSR) prepared by the U.S. Probation Office. A PSR includes, among other things, the defendant’s criminal and social history; the details of the crime; the financial, social, psychological, and, if relevant, medical impact of the crime on the victims; and any victim impact statements. The PSR helps the judge determine the proper sentence to impose.
Not an issue in this case. So why the interview?
One theory would be that lefties became obsessed with the idea that a bullet hadn’t struck Trump’s ear, but shrapnel from the bullet. As usual the latest online obsession of the lefties, the ‘Ear Truthers’ went mainstream before long with editors assigning articles at major media outlets about what hit Trump’s ear.
And then as usual the FBI probably got dragged in as backup.
Either way, Trump would be wise to avoid an interview with members of a politicized agency with a history of going after him and other political opponents. It serves no purpose and can lead to nothing good.
Old Fogey says
Absolutely no one, under any circumstances, should utter even one syllable to anyone employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Mike Larkin says
You’re not wrong.
They would be just about the only law enforcement agency in the world today that doesn’t even audio record interviews, let alone video record them.
They don’t even take verbatim written notes.
Why, you might ask, would they operate like that?
Because by doing it the way they do, and having “lying to the FBI” as a criminal charge that will get your jail time, it means they can put away anybody they like simply by interviewing them and then charging them with lying, because the victim has no comeback as to what the FBI claims they have said.
FrankP says
Or any other member of law enforcement. Google “never talk to the police james duane” and watch the video with 20 million views.
TruthLaser says
The FBI should interview Islamists and useful idiots destroying public spaces.
Jeff Bargholz says
Yes, interview them by shooting them.
STJOHNOFGRAFTON says
The perp’s been eliminated and so can’t be charged. The FBI have got to charge someone. Skeptics would conspiritorily theorize that the FBI are probably trying to figure how to fit a bum rap to Trump.
Mark Cogley says
Making use of lying-to-the-FBI gambit?
Jan VI says
Soon after the shooting, one of the Regime Media outlets said that DJT was hit by shrapnel from the teleprompter, while their other outlets said that the bullet hit or grazed his ear. At the same time, a conservative site wrote that photos showed that the teleprompter was not struck by the bullet. I wonder why the discrepancies?
I agree with the comment above, that talking to the FIB is a no-win proposition. However, if one did speak to them, one should insist on one’s lawyer(s) being present, and that the interview must be videotaped.
Neil says
What are the odds the interview will be leaked to the magot media?
Algorithmic Analyst says
Thanks Daniel !!! It used to be they tried to tamp down conspiracy theories.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Another thing. If he would have been hit by glass or shrapnel, it would have been a much more complicated process to get to the known events we all saw. That means it was a much lower probability scenario. I just realized that after reading some of the nutzo articles on MSM just now. Probabilities so low it would be barely above zero.
Jeff Bargholz says
The stupid main sleaze media lies about the assassination attempt on Trump are almost as constant and stupid as the ones about Heels Up Harris now that she’s the Dirtbagocrat nominee. They don’t even know how ridiculous their lies are.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Yeah, that glass or shrapnel scenario takes the cake. If they thought through what that would take … they don’t even seem to be capable of thinking that much, or doing that kind of thought experiment.
Intrepid says
Don’t do it DJT. This is a set up. Pure and simple.
There are enough Leftist whackos who claim that Trump staged the assassination attempt. Can’t help but think there are more than a few of Wray’s agents who would love to entrap you.
These creeps want to frame you in a lie of their creation.
They already attacked Mar-A- Lago without cause.
World@70 says
The FBI used to be a highly revered law enforcement agency that movies were made about, staring James Stewart. They caught gangsters, thwarting terrorists and drug cartels, exposed mafia crime families, not attempting to influence elections, and that’s just what this is.
Why an unnecessary interview with Trump? It’s obvious, trying to maneuver him into saying something simple and innocuous that can be twisted and lied about in order to make him look bad in some way.
Onzeur Trante says
Trump is the innocent victim here and the FBi likely the guilty party. Why should the guilty interview the innocent? Just more BS coming from Wray’s endless supply of it.
MuggsSpongedice says
FBI – F’ing Bullshit Instigators – are trying to do two things: (1) Set President Trump up that he staged the whole event!
(2) Entrap President Trump with a good cop bad cop scenario and twist his words that and get him that he was lying to the FBI ===
Fucking Bullshit Instigators!!!!
Onzeur Trante says
Trump would be a fool to walk into that trap. Hope his advisors are screaming in his left ear.
Chris Shugart says
Hey, I’ve watched enough cop shows to know that unless you’re under arrest, you don’t have to say a damn thing. And even if you’re arrested, you still get a lawyer. Could this be an FBI/Deep State caper? Knowing their reputation, I wouldn’t put it past them. I can see the headlines now: “Trump Refuses to Answer FBI Questions.” And knowing how corrupt the DOJ has been in regard to the former president, it wouldn’t surprise me if they engineered a legally questionable grand jury investigation. This is no wing nut conspiracy rant. If you know how to think like a criminal, it’s not that hard to come up with plausible criminal acts.
Kasandra says
They want him to say “I was facing south” although he was facing southwest so, if he wins, they can impeach him for lying to the FBI.
BLSinSC says
He should just say NO! AND add that he WOULD do the interview if there was a TRUSTED, HONEST fbi!
Citizen Cartier says
Does shrapnel leave a hole in the contact point of the ear? Because that’s what I saw there. Wray and the others are a bunch of idiots. Trump shouldn’t talk to them-nothing good would come of this. .
Jeanne T. says
The FBI should be interviewing those agents who failed in their duty to protect a former President..
Karmaboy says
It is a psychological maneuver to diffuse the responsibility of the FBI in aiding – if not co-conspiring the assassination attempt. The DoJ and FBI need to be investigated. A neutral probe needs to examine the evidence -including the shooter’s PC and phone. This is a sick joke – like rubbing salt in anopen wound -by the COUP MASTERS on their 5th illigetimate attempt to take care of Trump.
Kc LeMeir says
He should agree to be interviewed only if by, to be face-to-face with, the same agents who ransacked Mar-A-Lago.
Sarah says
Just read that Trump will be interviewed by the FBI. They’re calling it a “victim interview.” Yeah, a victim of the deep state.
