Consider the ball kicked down the highway.

Bottom line is that parents, including Democrat parents in the suburbs who voted for Biden, desperately want schools to reopen. And teachers’ unions, who actually fund and dominate the Democrat nomenklatura don’t want to reopen schools and do their jobs. Not without a whole lot more concessions.

The Biden administration went with its organizational base, over its voting base.

The theater began when CDC Director Rochelle Walensky stated at a White House press briefing that schools could reopen any time.

That said, I want to be very clear about schools, which is: Yes, ACIP has put teachers in the 1b category, the category of essential workers.  But I also want to be clear that there is increasing data to suggest that schools can safely reopen and that that safe reopening does not suggest that teachers need to be vaccinated in order to reopen safely. 

Biden press secretary Jen Psaki insisted that, “Dr. Walensky spoke to this in her personal capacity”, and that real “science-based” guidance was coming. Now it’s here. And it’s not science-based, it’s union-based.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky said on Sunday that despite new  guidance from the agency for reopening schools, “I think we need a lot more resources in order to get the schools safe.”

“One of the things that’s really been emphasized in the school reopening is how unsafe some of our school ventilations are,” Walensky said on “Fox News Sunday.”

In addition to worsening the risk of coronavirus, she said, “that’s a problem for other respiratory viruses, for children with asthma, for exposure to mold … there’s a lot of work we need to do in order to get our schools to a safer environment.”

These are teachers’ union talking points. The ball has been kicked so far down the road that she’s talking about mold in the ventilation systems. That has nothing to do with the coronavirus. Walensky also insisted that some teachers should have options for working remotely.

It’s “everybody’s responsibility to do their part in the community to get disease rates down so we can get our schools opened,” she insisted.

These are union talking points and they’re complete nonsense. The thrust of them is to keep schools closed for as long as possible. It’s also painfully clear that Walensky was told to change her tone after initially stating that schools could open again and the only people with the power to tell her to do that are Biden’s team.

Biden has broken yet another promise and is keeping schools closed, women at home, and students in psych wards because the unions want it that way.

Meanwhile, over in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis has told the CDC to shove it.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday provided a roadmap for reopening schools during the ongoing pandemic but in Florida where campuses have welcomed students back since the beginning of the academic year, much of the precautious are already being utilized.

Reacting to the long-awaited CDC guidance, Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran released a statement saying Florida’s schools have been operating safely since August 2020 and will continue to do so.
