H RES 246, a toothless resolution condemning BDS, attracted attention largely because of opposition from lefty House bigots like Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.
It finally passed easily by 398 to 17. But most resolutions of this type pass unanimously.
The “Nay” votes included, predictably, Omar, Tlaib and Ocasio-Cortez.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley, often classed with the four, represents a district with some Jews in it, and chose to vote in favor.
Beyond the four, many the anti votes came from the expected sources, House Democrats with longstanding records of hating Israel, Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Rep. Andre Carson, Rep. Debbie Dingell, Rep. Betty McCollum, and Rep. Mark Pocan.
These are basically lifetime members of the anti-Israel, Islamist caucus.
Debbie Dingell represents Dearborn. Betty McCollum’s district is next to Omar’s.
The geography isn’t coincidental.
Then there are the dedicated proggies whose votes are also equally predictable.
Rep. Raul Grijalva, Rep. Chellie Pingree, and Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who isn’t a member of the squad, but ought to be.
One of the surprise pro-BDS votes comes from Rep. Sylvia Garcia from Texas. Her Twitter feed comes with a photo of her posing with Muslim community leaders.
Rep. Barbara Lee decided to vote against the resolution. That’s not surprising as Lee’s anti-Israel views aren’t news.
Rep. Karen Bass, who represents a district with a Jewish population, chose to vote “Present”.
Rep. Bobby Rush and Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman also voted against.
Joining them was Rep. Thomas Massie, a libertarian “Republican” ally of Senator Rand Paul and a close friend of ex-GOPer, Rep. Justin Amash. Amash, curiously, just voted, Present.
Also voting present were Rep. Hank Johnson, who had compared Jews to termites, Rep. Jared Huffman and Rep. Danny K. Davis.
Davis had praised Farrakhan.
