David C. Weiss, the guy tasked with investigating Hunter Biden, and whom Attorney General Garland named as a special prosecutor after he demonstrated his willingness to give Hunter a pass, is a pretty straightforward figure.
And not in a good way.
Weiss is representative of a lot of careerists who move back and forth between fed work and the private sector. They’re willing to do their jobs to the extent that it’s convenient to their careers. Weiss went through the motions of the Hunter Biden investigation until the latter’s lawyers, understanding exactly how to pressure a mediocre figure like Weiss, warned him that continuing to do so would blow up his career.
With no ability to prosecute outside Delaware, and threats that Joe Biden would be put on the stand and his career would be nuked, he backed off, and then made a minimal effort to save face.
Because that is what it’s about.
Yes, there are some gov people who are conspirators, most others are just cashing a check and looking to maximize their career options and retirement plans.
So is this meaningful? Yes. In that there’s a thin line in a very small world. The six degrees of Bidens aren’t as broad as the six degrees of the Clintons, but they are still there.
When Delaware’s acting U.S. attorney David C. Weiss celebrated a fraud conviction in 2010, he was joined by a key partner in the case: Beau Biden, the state’s attorney general.
Weiss worked with Joe Biden’s eldest son to hash out prosecution strategies. “We will continue to aggressively pursue all types of fraud in order to protect the public,” Weiss said in his part of a statement with Beau Biden on the fraud case…
Although Democrats point to Weiss’s appointment by President Donald Trump as evidence of his independence, the full story of his career is more nuanced, as he spent two years as acting U.S. attorney under President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden and then remained as a top deputy for the remainder of their term.
It’s safe to say that Weiss is careerist and otherwise apolitical. The story mentions again that he’s a registered Republican. Joe Biden was a registered Republican.
