Remember previous Orwellian rebrands of…
Terrorism as ‘man-caused disasters’
Criminals as ‘justice-involved persons’
and
Women as ‘chestfeeders’.
The woke language brigade is at it again.
After renaming ‘bums’ as the ‘homeless’, they tried rebranding ‘homeless’ as ‘unhoused’ (which is just the same thing with an even bigger emphasis on the housing, as if that were the issue, rather than the drugs, alcohol and mental illness) and now it’s not ‘homelessness’, it’s ‘urban camping’.
Surely changing the term will help.
I had seen the use of ‘urban camping’ locally in social services and legal documents, but the media is trying to get its latest Newspeak term go national.
As Kentucky makes urban camping a crime, ‘homeless court’ seeks to avoid punishment – Reuters
It’s not ‘camping’. Going to the woods and putting up a tent is camping. Setting up a tent on Wilshire Blvd or Fifth Avenue is squatting at best.
Trying to make these operations which include drug use, disease, prostitution, and human waste seem like going to fish by a lake is dishonest and idiotic. It certainly does not help the people involved and attempts to dismiss the complaints by living in these neighborhoods who face surges of violence and crime.
They should have also learned by now that renaming horrible things doesn’t help. They’ve tried rebranding ‘homeless’ because it’s a political neologism that has now come to mean exactly what the originals, bums and hobos, did. They’ll have to rename ‘unhoused’ too before long and if they want to associate camping with methheads chasing local kids with broken pipes, it’ll damage the term ‘camping’ more than it will legitimize the neighborhood-destroying habits of the social services sectors and its armies of taxpayer-funded bums.
Yeah, they trash the places they camp in. Costs more for police/fire/cleanup than it would to house them.
And a certain type of “urban campers” loves those stolen shopping carts they fill with garbage. Weird treasures to them, I suppose, but proof that they’re loony to everybody else. They often have a whole choo-choo train of them that they turn into little bum and bumette villages when they “camp out.”
Here in San Jose, it seems like roughly half of the derelicts with tents and makeshift shelters made from tarps and other materials (like in the beach photo above) police their areas of trash but the other half strew it about. The filthy ones get driven away by the police but they just erect their fetid dens somewhere else, over and over.
Most of the tenants in my apartment building are formerly homeless and more than a few of them are hoarders. My last property manager, the maintenance guys and pest control guys have told me how nasty those apartments are on the inside. Dimes to dollars says they were shopping cart weirdos before they became hoarder weirdos.
Using government funds to get derelicts out of public spaces is a good thing when it’s done correctly, as it was with President Trump’s Executive order which required mental health and substance abuse to be addressed along with homelessness but even then permanent supportive housing isn’t for everybody. Loonies are loony for life and the severe cases cannot live in harmony in the same building with sane people, and the same goes for tweakers who cannot live harmoniously with people who don’t stay up for days high out of their minds and invite gutter criminals over to roam the common areas in the wee hours.
Habitual criminality is another aspect of homelessness that doesn’t get enough attention.
There are facilities designed to house nut-jobs and habitual criminals and others designed to have tenants treat their substance abuse. Not that many charities or politicians seem to be aware of that.
President Trump did a great job of reducing homelessness of course, but private charities, local and state governments and nearly all politicians usually increase the problem with their policies. Even good policies like President Trump’s are damaged once they’re administered by organizations which tend to be inept and corrupt, even the well meaning ones. And it seems like even all the well meaning ones are rife with the incompetence and corruption of members who are self serving and/or ideological whackos rather than well meaning.
Thanks Jeff !!! Yeah, a certain percentage are hopelessly loony.
It’s quite a high percentage at that.
Some of them are the poor bloody sods that are genuinely, naturally mentally ill or dumb as a box of rocks, but a lot of them are suffering from what the medical profession politely call “psycho-active disorder”, which is doctor speak for “drug fucked beyond all recognition or repair”, and which is becoming ever more common as the normalization of the use of dangerous illegal drugs continues.
Yes, people who haven’t been around tweakers don’t know that they’re often indistinguishable from natural loons.
I’ve seen video on TV of Fentanyl zombies and they look crazy as fuck.
I don’t know for sure if habitual drug use can cause permanent mental health issues but it sure wouldn’t surprise me and I often see derelicts who match that description.
And you don’t want to live in the same building with the REALLY loony ones. The ones you see on the street, especially here in balmy downtown San Jose, are NOT people you want as neighbors. My building had some hopeless cases who were allowed to live here for one to two years before the Housing Authority forced the permanent supportive housing agency located in my building to use the building management company to evict them. (They wanted clean hands like Pontius Pilate.) it’s their free headquarters to kick back in while they embezzle donations when they bother to show up for “work” 3 to 4 days a week so you can imagine what those parasites are like. All women, too.
There was this loony tenant who kept throwing trash out of the building’s windviews, and she amassed a lot of trash to throw, somehow. And she threw it out of multiple windviews, even doing it on different floors. There was actually more than one garbage goblin. They threw it off the 6th floor patio, too. One loony guy always walked around with a thigh length coat and nothing else. He didn’t bathe or wipe his ass and the few times I saw him with underwear was when he took the soiled things off and threw them on the sidewalk in front of the building – right next to a large dumpster, naturally. There was some broad who would shriek like a harpy and pound on the inside of her door with what sounded like a metal pipe for hours on end. At all hours, too. The middle of the day, the middle of the night, it seems like she pounded more often than she rested. That bitch had a lot of psychotic stamina. Our Apt. doors are metal and strong to keep out intruders and she made a Hell of a racket banging on hers. I thought she’d lived on the same floor as me around a corner in the hallway because it was so loud but it turned out she’d lived around the corner on the floor below me~!
They have facilities for the moderate crazies who can be helped and for the hopeless loonies who can’t be which are like mental wards but so far as I know, tenants have to be voluntary. The regional manager of the property management company in my building told me about those places. The people who can be helped are glad to get off the streets but it’s definitely true that many of them are so hopelessly crazy that they WANT to be derelicts.
“Bumettes.” I like it.
And oh, yeah. The Minitrue Media are off message with their typically idiotic euphemism of “urban campers” for the previous two euphemisms, “homeless” and “unhoused.” All five of the people running this month for the recently vacated city council seat here in San Jose – Omar Torres was fired for being a gay pedophile – stress homelessness as their top priority, not “urban campers,” and they avoid other “woke” phrases like “minor attracted person.” The gay guy candidate stresses that “I’m not a pedophile,” LOL. Most if not all of the sleazebags who ran for seats in the State Legislature in 2024 also claimed homelessness is one of the state’s top problems and insinuated they would “solve” it.
As President Trump proved, the Minitrue Media are the propaganda arm of the Dirtbagocrat party and both advance terms, ideologies and policies that ordinary Americans oppose, especially all that government waste, theft and “woke” shit. A bunch of NIMBYs.
Without homelessness, what would all the Democrat politician’s relatives do for work? Somebody has to run those NGO’s and use that tax money.
Yeah, we could run out of NGOs wasting billions.
/sarc off
And thank you, Gordon for the humorous sarcasm.
And one from germany:
At first they were called “gypsies”.
Then some of them objected and therefore we had to call them “Roma and Sinti”. And yes, some of them didnt wanted to be called that, they wanted to be called “gypsies”.
Now they are called “Mobile ethnic minority”.
I wonder what they will be called next.
Any guesses?
Most of the homeless are not gypsies. Also, campimg is something you do for fun and these people are not having fun.
Mobile trash? Wallet and purse liberators?
So, after they finish their weekend of urban camping, they pack their tent, sleeping bag, camp stove, and kids into their SUV, the mentally ill drug-addicted urban campers who are trashing blue cities are back working at their desk on Monday morning?
Meanwhile, illegal aliens get the red carpet treatment and treated like celebrity guests while Ukrainian Nazis become instant billionaires at American tax payers expense.
And we the American people are expected to sit down, pay up, STFU while being told that it’s the patriotic thing to do. I often wonder: does what we the American people want even matters anymore and to whom? Certainly not the Wall Street fat cats, the warmongers, the far left and the political whores on Capitol Hill who prostrate themselves before them.
We the American people get screwed every which way but loose 24/7/365 and there seems to be no end in sight.
The picture is from Venice, CA – I know that place like the back of my hand. It’s the first place I lived when I was born.
I saw Orson Welles set up to film the opening sequence to “Touch of Evil”
I saw Venice go from a nice community, to beatniks, hippies, drugs, motorcycle gangs, crips and bloods gangs with real estate and rental prices skyrocket and traffic so thick you can get around faster walking or bicycling. and of course the homeless.
What a place to be homeless, a life on the beach Downtown LA is way to crowded with homeless and the homeless has spread out to the suburbs. What I am surprised is there is no epidemic after decades of homeless in LA County.
I moved from California to SE AZ in 2017 = I ,miss the ocean but that’s it.
Our tax dollars went to illegal aliens during the installed by coup d’etat of stolen 2020 election. DOGE is discovering how illicit, illegal and treasonous our tax dollars have been laundered for decades.
The solution to the homeless in California and every other state is easy
Build facilities away from cities and suburbs. California has a desert, build there Plenty of solar powered sunlight.
Round up the homeless and ship them to these facilities.
Find out why they are homeless and segregate them from the insane and need meds and some need locking up in a mental asylum, If they’re addicts, force them to dry out and teach them a trade. If they are just in a bad situation, became homeless and could not look for a job without an address or telephone or computer. Homeless families get separated from the horrid addicts and insane. They are looking for a hand and will be the easiest to cycle out of homeless.
It’s a disgusting abomination to have the homeless we have in the USA! Where is the pride? The reality an epidemic is so likely among the homeless to those working with the homeless, they stop at a grocery store or worse, stop to eat at restaurants on the way home and a real epidemic is spread.
It’s all a ticking time bomb.
Thanks Muggs !!! Yeah, that’s the practical solution, put them in facilities away from the cities and suburbs.
The solution to homelessness is not more inefficient, ineffective and wasteful government spending. We’ve gone a thousand miles down that road and other than one hundred trillion + dollars (and growing) in unfunded liabilities, what and where has it gotten us?
The real solution to homelessness is a growing economy coupled with a lower cost of living and mass deportation of illegal aliens who displace Americans on the lower end of the economic ladder.
Illegal immigration is entirely unfair to them but unfortunately and tragically, as long as the homelessness problem is out of sight and mind, most Americans don’t really care one wit about them nor what caused them to become homeless in the first place.
Not all homeless people are drug addicts or mentally ill. Many are good people who fell into economic hardship when their employers either shut down and moved overseas or were taxed and regulated out of business by onerous federal, state and local government regulations.
Bottom line:
Throwing money at the homeless problem is not the solution and in fact, no solution at all. All that will result in is more government spending and “up-sizing” government bureaucracy with a perverse incentive to exacerbate the homelessness problem, not reduce it. We’re all too familiar how that pans out.
Ronald Reagan once said to the effect that the nearest thing to eternity we’ll ever know is a government program. I would add that that also applies to a government bureaucracy.
Throwing money at a problem is never a solution but if money is spent effectively, problems can be eased. Unfortunately most private charities are bad at the alleviation of homelessness and some exacerbate the problem. Except for President Trump’s Executive Order the federal government just pisses away money on nothing and most state and local governments also suck at relief efforts.
Maybe the Homeless should all be moved into the UN Facility since the UN is totally Useless let the Homeless live there
That’s a better use than the building is being put to now but without prison style guards the robbery and homicide rates would be astronomical, not to mention plagues of bedbugs and scabies.
House the homeless there now while the UN “diplomats” are still there. That would solve two problems at once.
Let’s call them what they are: street bums. A homeless person is someone who is temporarily unhoused because of economic problems. A street bum is an addict or otherwise deranged person who lives on the streets because they can’t drink or do drugs in a shelter.
Yes, that’s an excellent observation.
Good point. It isn’t that difficult to lose your house or apartment if a job is lost or other circumstance changes. A mom and kids with no housing is different than long term drug addicted mentally ill or criminal person who lives outside.
I agree homelessness exists like the illegal alien invasion exists to fund phony NGO “ social justice” jobs for relatives and duped new graduates and so that the really big money stays at the top. It is shameful.
“Urban camping” is what goes on in drag bars, not homeless settlements. Let’s respect the language.
It took me a minute to figure that one out!
Our Main Stream media is subversive and treasonous. And it has been that way for a very long time.
I remember an old stand-up comic routine:
Mother: Ah, you’re a bum.
Son: I’m not a bum, mom.
Mother: Are you married?
Son: No.
Mother: Then you’re a BUM!
FWIW:
There was a time when being called a hobo or a vagabond and even a tramp was a respectable title. But nowadays, we’ve lumped it all under the title of “homeless” whether by choice, misfortune or self destructive behavior (e.g., drugs, drug induced mental illness, etc.)
Let the retards go, they are fooling no one.
Fewer syllables is better, IMHO.. No reason to use more than one syllable if one will do it. BUM is a perfect word – everyone knows what that is. HOBO also works, but seems to connote more of a bum on the move. Perhaps TRAMP?
What about renaming pedophiles “minor attracted person” – ?!
we called them “feral urbanites” thirty years ago in
Austin Texas
