The Left keeps putting all its institutional capital behind the racist ideology of Critical Race Theory even as its media outlets keep claiming that CRT is a ‘bogeyman’ invented by conservatives.
The NEA has now gone all-in on a CRT resolution which commits the huge educational union to handling public relations for CRT.
A. Share and publicize, through existing channels, information already available on critical race theory (CRT) — what it is and what it is not; have a team of staffers for members who want to learn more and fight back against anti-CRT rhetoric; and share information with other NEA members as well as their community members.
This is an unambiguous effort to fight against parents and school board members with the same lies about how “students benefit from learning about the dark side of America’s past” which is frankly at this point not even the issue because CRT goes far beyond libeling America’s past to attacking its current existence and the existence of white people.
B. Provide an already-created, in-depth, study that critiques empire, white supremacy, anti-Blackness, anti-Indigeneity, racism, patriarchy, cisheteropatriarchy, capitalism, ableism, anthropocentrism, and other forms of power and oppression at the intersections of our society, and that we oppose attempts to ban critical race theory and/or The 1619 Project.
I like how the study has predetermined conclusions. It also makes no mention of antisemitism, but commits the NEA to fighting capitalism.
C. Publicly (through existing media) convey its support for the accurate and honest teaching of social studies topics, including truthful and age-appropriate accountings of unpleasant aspects of American history, such as slavery, and the oppression and discrimination of Indigenous, Black, Brown, and other peoples of color, as well as the continued impact this history has on our current society. The Association will further convey that in teaching these topics, it is reasonable and appropriate for curriculum to be informed by academic frameworks for understanding and interpreting the impact of the past on current society, including critical race theory.
The first part of that is how they’re spinning it. The second part “understanding and interpreting the impact of the past on current society, including critical race theory” is how all the white privilege and whiteness stuff will get into the classroom.
There’s some more agenda items, all about promoting critical race theory and BLM.
All of this is a reminder that teachers’ unions are the disease of American education. No progress is possible without either removing the disease directly or killing the host, which is the mandatory public school education system supported with tax dollars. The system will continue pushing increasingly hateful and radical messages into the classroom because while far from all teachers are radical lefties, teachers’ unions are run by radical anti-American lefties and intertwined with Democrat elected officials.
