Various Never Trumper presidential bids have a history almost as rich and varied as a wad of bubble gum stuck to the underside of a park bench.

These days trying to nurture third-party candidacies that are supposed to divert crucial votes from the other party is part of the playbook. The only evidence that third-party presidential candidacies have influenced election results were when authentic leftists with a following diverted votes from Democrats in swing states.

After several efforts by Never Trumpers, actually backed by Democrats, the efforts led to zero meaningful results in 2016 and 2020.

Hyping some sort of Liz Cheney presidential bid in 2024 would give the Democrats double zero. For this to get any kind of results, Dems need a Republican candidate who might break off crucial voters in swing states. Iz Liz Cheney getting a lot of Republican votes in Ohio or Pennsylvania? Maybe Virginia. 

There’s a plan here, but it mainly involves Democrat campaign consultants cashing in on Dem donors. Like the ones who poured money into Liz Cheney’s congressional race.

The only party this hurts are the Democrats.

Any Anti-Trump Republican willing to vote for Cheney in a Trump-Biden race, would be more likely to vote for Biden than Trump. A hypothetical Liz Cheney campaign wouldn’t hurt Trump, it would hurt Biden. But in reality, assuming it even happens, the campaign would be as meaningless as previous Never Trumper presidential campaign ops. 

Meaningless in the national sense, but not in the financial sense. Follow the money.
