Orwell is from an older school. The new postmodern school has liberal politicians and pundits saying nonsense that would embarrass a North Korean propagandist. They advocate for censorship and shutting down dissent in order to protect democracy. The two-party system, they contend is democracy, but anything else is a threat to democracy.
Here’s Nan.
Nancy Pelosi on Thursday eviscerated the centrist group No Labels and its attempt to mount a third-party presidential bid.
“I think that No Labels is perilous to our democracy. I say that completely without any hesitation,” she said. “This is about an illusion being created, that it’s about non-partisanship and bringing people together.”
What the hell does that even mean?
No Labels is a threat to democracy because it creates an illusion of non-partisanship? I know Nancy’s neurons aren’t firing like they used to, but this is less about age and more about a political culture in which people repeat cliches and buzzwords that are meaningless, but whose core meaning is that only they have an absolute right to power.
Democracy doesn’t involve people choosing elected officials to represent them, it’s Democrats. And if democracy is inseparable from the Democrat Party, then anyone else is a threat to democracy. Doesn’t matter if it’s Republicans or No Labels or some other third party. The only way to have real democracy is to have no choices.
“When they jeopardize the reelection of Joe Biden as president of the United States, I can no longer remain silent on them,” Pelosi said.
Technically Biden hasn’t even won the party nomination. Most Democrats don’t want him. I guess that makes them a threat to democracy too.
Pelosi, like most of her party, act like all of that is irrelevant. Having equated their party with democracy, they’ve also equated Biden with democracy.
Anyone who runs against Biden threatens democracy by… allowing people to vote for someone who isn’t Biden.
We just can’t have democracy if different candidates run for public office.
And if you thought that was crazy, Nan went one better.
“They do have a label, and it’s a perilous one for our country,” she said. “Just look at who they want to have an influence on our policy.”
She listed off a number of prominent No Labels donors including conservative mega-donors Peter Thiel and the late David Koch.
David Koch died in 2019. Is he going to be influencing things from beyond the grave? I know that Chicago Dems keep voting a century after their death, but unless Koch has the world’s greatest Ouija board, I think his influence is done.
Also Koch apparently didn’t even donate, by then he had retired due to poor health and would be dead a year later, he was just one of the many donors solicited across the political spectrum.
Among those courted were individuals who’ve bankrolled massive parts of the Republican Party’s infrastructure, including David Koch, former AIG head Hank Greenberg, and billionaire hedge-fund manager Paul Singer; as well as top supporters of President Donald Trump, including PayPal founder Peter Thiel, businessman Foster Friess, and Home Depot founder Ken Langone. No Labels also courted liberal-minded moneymen, including Michael Vachon, a top political adviser to George Soros (one of the biggest funders of Democratic and progressive causes) and Reid Hoffman, an investor and entrepreneur who has called Trump “worse than useless.” The group also targeted Wendi Murdoch (ex-wife of Rupert and rumored Ivanka Trump pal), uber-agent Ari Emanuel, and Dallas Mavericks owner and oft-rumored presidential aspirant Mark Cuban. Another possible 2020 candidate, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, was also among dozens of high net-worth individuals approached about donating to No Labels’ super PACs. Most of those targeted for financial support didn’t end up donating to No Labels super PACs.
So like a lot of political groups, No Labels was targeting anyone with money. But Pelosi will fight to save democracy from being undermined by a donation unsuccessfully solicited from a dead guy or something.
Everyone in North Korea, China, Cuba and Russia knows that democracy only works when there’s one candidate, the beloved leader, and bad stuff happens to anyone who opposes him.
Only by eliminating free elections, will democracy be saved from democracy.

The Democrats are like Communists in enforcing party loyalty: everything within the party, nothing outside the party. For example, supporting atrocious candidates for office simply because they are Democrats.
Jeff Bargholz says
That’s a perfect analogy, AA.
One party rule by those totalitarians would be an Orwellian nightmare, and America would be even worse off than it is now, under the Alzheimer Joe regime.
God forbid.

I listened to a conservative podcast yesterday that really drew a bead on this issue. The host insisted that we should stop calling members of the Democrat party the “far left”, “extreme left” or “militant left” because use of the phrases insinuates other members of the party are not. Nothing could be further from the truth and dinosaurs like Nancy Pelosi adopting Maoist tones proves that. She may be a great many evil and horrible things, but she’s a good reader of the prevailing winds within her party and, in a feeble attempt to maintain relevancy, her acceptance of modern party platforms guarantees continued membership. They’re just “the left” and they’ve all chosen to live on “extreme” boulevard.
While statements like she made should end her political career and the party itself (if anyone ACTUALLY chose to listen), it won’t because there are many young, groomed, indoctrinated voters out there wearing Che Guervara t-shirts that loved what their Marxist professor taught them and are about as sharp as a bag of soup.
There aren’t many reason to be glad to be old, but this is certainly one for me.

San Fran Nan once said of the Democ-rat’s Kenyan-care: “We’ll have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it.” Such nonsense makes perfect “sense” in a party led by Joe Bite-Me, a dementia patient.

Old Fogey says
The Democrat Party of 2023 is perilous to our republic, a representative democracy. Politicians like Mrs. Pelosi amply demonstrate the validity of the founders’ warnings against factionalism. Sadly, there will always be alliances among political power seekers, and the need for an alliance to resist those who would pervert our Constitution. For more than a century, the federal government has been stretching its power beyond any shred of loyalty to the founding document of this republic. Rent-seeking businesses, labor organizations, and craven political hacks in the judiciary, the bureaucracy, and in elected office have collaborated to tax, regulate, extort, bribe, and intimidate states and citizens into submission.
Imagine a federal government like the one presided over by Calvin Coolidge, that would not aid the victims of a flood, because it defied the Constitution to do so. Think how free you would be to make your own economic decisions, and how much wealth would remain in communities and states to carry out the wishes of the electorate. Are those days gone forever? Has the feckless Washington establishment led us to federal bankruptcy and a generation-long decline? Can we not reverse this disaster?
Jeff Bargholz says
I didn’t know that about Calvin Coolidge and the flood. What an obscenity.
Those Dirtbagocrats have been seizing power incrementally since the party’s inception. If they get absolute power, America will become a totalitarian nightmare, coupled with the infamous Dirtbagocrat incompetence in management.
I hope I never have to experience that. But you know what they say: Hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which one gets filled first.
