Here’s one sign your mayoral race is going badly… you don’t know when Election Day is.
I don’t know what possessed Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, arguably the dumbest member of the House, to run for mayor, except that Karen Bass did it and she figured why not. Hillary Clinton endorsed her and so did a bunch of Democrats.
Also, she said things like this…
When the Houston Chronicle asked her why she was running, she replied, among other things, that, “I have been a leader in human and sex trafficking.”
But as a counterpoint, she didn’t know when Election Day is. And the results showed it. While the full election totals aren’t in, she lost. Current estimates are that she lost by 65% to 34%. Her opponent, John Whitmire, got nearly twice as many votes as she did.
No amount of burst water pipes or found boxes of ballots are going to fix this. As I’ve always said, voter fraud has a margin. Competing against political machines that use voter fraud requires beating the margin of voter fraud. And it is doable.
But as much as we mock Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, I think she’s going to have the last laugh. Follow the money.
More than half a dozen people or companies gave contributions to Jackson Lee that exceed the city’s legal limit and one donation wrongly was attributed to a dead woman.
Jackson Lee’s report says she collected $1.2 million and spent $182,000 to close her first reporting period with a little more than $1 million in cash on hand. Subtracting the illegal contributions, Jackson Lee’s cash on hand would dip from seven to six figures.
She kept on raising money, including $600,000. And then spent only $60,000 on ads during the runoff.
Sure she lost the election, but I’m not so sure that Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s not having the last laugh.
A mandatory IQ test for all government positions sounds like a fair idea.
Not to mention an age test. Clint Eastwood is 93 and still vital but some people become basket cases early on. Sheila Jackass Lee and Alzheimer Joe are prime examples of early onset decrepitude.
Oh, yeah, those campaign funds are a huge loophole the politicians left for themselves.
Yes, they suck up those loopholes in every election conceivable and few people notice it. Just look at the fake Republican primaries. We all know Big Don Trump is going to be the candidate but a bunch of no chancers have run. Even the ones who’ve dropped out already dropped out with their pockets full.
Hm. I should run for office, any office.
That’s what they do, run for any office. If they lose one race there is always another.

Finally it “comes home to roost” for this thoroughly loathsome creature. What kind of electorate would vote for her in the first place? The saying “anyone can make it in America” is true and Lee is that example that has replicated itself thousands of times in our local, state and federal politicians and gov’t in general. And some wonder why we are no longer a super power.
Except Obama only gets wee willy wood for bulls, not Elsie.
