When President Trump said that America would never be a socialist country, he offended the socialists. And the socialists resorted to the usual excuses.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), a co-chair of the Progressive Caucus, argued the group’s proposals aren’t extreme, noting a number of them have been implemented in countries in the Western world.
“I think he’s, you know, he’s worried about the good ideas like Medicare for all and taxes on the wealthiest and a green new deal and he wants to paint it as socialism,” she told reporters.
Because they are.
Freshman Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), who has been a staunch critic of the president since taking office, accused Trump of not understanding what socialism is, adding she believes his rhetoric has further divided the country.
“I mean look, for me I think a lot of people don’t understand it [socialism]. I mean the library and the post office is socialism — so many of the things that we have in our country that we all value is very much based on those values of equality,” she said.
Rep. Tlaib probably understands the Koran better than she understands socialism.
