Europeans sat aghast after Vice-President J.D. Vance dared to suggest that their socialist democracies have become illiberal, intolerant, authoritarian—and on the wrong side of global populism.
Like some addict that knows his habit is killing him, and yet who cannot resist another fix, so the Euros war on fossil fuels and hollow out their middle classes.
They keep borders open to massive, illiberal illegal immigration. Yet they know the result bankrupts social services, spikes crime, and turns “diversity” into dangerous ethnic and religious chauvinism and contempt for generous host countries.
The recent Euro Ministers in Vance’s audience both publicly and to their leftwing monopolistic media complained bitterly about the American’s “interference” in their internal affairs.
How odd!—given this comes from Europe and the UK that saw ads for British Laborites to fly to America to interfere in our recent American elections, and lying British subject Christoper Steele’s pathetic dossier that sought to warp the 2016 election and subvert the ensuing Trump presidency.
In 2016 the Ukraine sought to interfere in the U.S. election and its ambassador wrote a pro-Hillary Clinton op-ed opposing Trump.
Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss routinely bankrolls leftist U.S. candidates and causes—as the E.U. targets U.S. tech companies to censor any content they find antithetical to their leftist agendas.
Similar to the hysterical, out-of-power and impotent Democrat counterparts here at home, the Euros’ strategy of regaining global influence and power is not to become introspective, self-critical and open to reform.
They prefer instead to scream, stonewall, and threaten—in hopes of damaging what they feel is the malign influence of the Trump colossus.
Yet the more outraged at critics, at home and abroad, the European ruling elite becomes, the more the European Union’s wealth, authority, and power decline on the world stage.
And rather than open up their societies and economies, while closing their borders to illegal immigrants, the embittered EU apparat can only gnash it teeth at the U.S. in general. And in particular it rages at the Trump administration that offers it reality bites after experiencing and then terminating the disastrous Biden four-year European mimicry.
Still, Europe should heed Vance’s constructive criticism—or, alternatively, look carefully at its present relationship with the U.S.
The more the European Union grew (from its 1997 six-member union to the current twenty-seven members), the more, paradoxically, its aggregate GDP fell behind that of the U.S.—which now has 1.5 times the European gross domestic product.
Europe is committing slow-motion energy suicide, mostly led by Germany (Vance’s most severe critic).
Germany’s energy is about four times as costly as the U.S. average.
Its foreign-born are now 16 percent of the population (greater even than the U.S. record high). And its calcified fertility rate hovers under 1.5.
Eleven years after NATO members promised to spend 2 percent of their respective GDP on defense, nine of NATO’s thirty-two nations still balk—despite the 3-year horrific Ukrainian war on Europe’s border and the prior four-year haranguing from Donald Trump.
Germany still leads the holdouts. It spends only 1.5 percent of it GDP, which has essentially been either negative or flat the last two years.
Because of the Europe elite’s growing rejection of horizontal drilling, fracking, and offshore drilling (their prior mantra was to let the Russians do such dirty business in Russia, and then sell Europe the gas and oil cheaply), the EU will now become increasingly dependent on U.S. and Middle-East imported natural gas.
Or it will have to repair Ukraine’s destruction of the Nord Stream II pipeline, and resume business with their hated energy benefactor Vladimir Putin.
The EU’s increasingly asymmetrical and protectionist tariffs result in a $235 billion annual trade surplus with the U.S.—inching up to China’s $295 billion.
Add it all up. And one would think that the EU ministers would welcome polite criticism.
Instead, their contempt for the U.S. is unwise—given they still won’t meet their NATO obligations.
They depend for their security on the U.S. military.
They run massive trade deficits with the U.S. due to one-sided tariffs. They need American energy. They are shrinking in population, inert in economic growth.
But they will find no cure by increasingly and loudly expressing their bitter anti-Americanism under the convenient fig leaf of hating Trump.
As always, Victor Davis Hanson, military historian and great political commentator, sums up the European liberal elite views very succinctly. Too bad they are too arrogant to at least consider what may be their demise.
The Euro-Weenies are so darn Pathetic bunch of Sissies not not at all like they once were
So while Trump and MAGA clean up from the last 4 years of self inflicted creeping suicide, the Euro weenies continue down the path of slow motion destruction. Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result is…..well you know the rest.
Thank God Kammy lost so bigly. Thank God Trump is fixing it.
I agree that we should thank God for what seems like a real miracle, but Trump really didn’t win “bigly”. (BTW, I think that’s not Trump’s original expression, which was “big-league, but now it’s become a word on its own.) The margins in the “swing” states were very small, and the Dems are claiming that Kamala got 75 million votes (of course, much of that is forged.) How can there be a future for a country where even 75 people voted for such a candidate?
Bitter table for one. Are you always this negative? Can’t you be glad Trump won and some of the corruption is going away.
If you think we have no future, you can always leave and go to some euro weenie country where everyone is miserable, like you.
I have no patience for losers. Great life you have carved out for yourself.
The USA should back out of NATO. We’ll take or trucks and tanks and go home. Let the smarties in the EU figure out how to deter/defend their union from outside aggression. Although I believe their real problem is the unfettered islamic masses that have the goal of taking over the continent.
The US should pay its fair share t0 NATO, nothing more.
The Europeans are like a spoiled child turned into a spoiled adult. They have grown so accustomed to having all of the heavy lifting done for them, that they not only don’t know how to do it for themselves anymore (if they ever did in the first place, it HAS been 80 years since WW2), but they get angry and throw a hissy fit when their every need and desire isn’t fulfilled instantly. Just like a spoiled, rotten childlike adult needs to be figuratively slapped in the face to bring him or her back to reality, so the Europeans need this kind of frank talk. I think that all that President Trump and VP Vance want to do is to jolt Europe into acting like responsible adults, rather than spoiled children.
While it may have been justifiable and necessary for the US to provide the lions share of defense for 20 or 25 years after World War II, in order to give Europe a chance to rebuild, since at least 1970, the Europeans have been prosperous enough to take on an increasing share of their own national defense. Instead, the US has provided it as if it was part of our DNA, and the Europeans have taken all the extra money and built gigantic welfare states, and spoiled all of their citizens. Well, we can no longer afford to do that, and if the Europeans aren’t serious about defending their territory and their culture, then why should we be so terribly concerned about those things? Europe has become a whiny, obstructionist burden on the United States, had a time when we are having to come to grips with the results of what our own spoiled rotten left us have done to our nation over the past 50 years. Again, we can no longer afford to carry Europe. If Europe wants us to participate in their defense, they need to provide a whole lot more of it, and also stop criticizing us when we make suggestions that are, ultimately, for their benefit. If they want to continue to act like a bunch of spoiled children, then cut them loose. They really don’t help us anymore.
Didn’t Biden destroy the pipeline?
I didn’t know Ukraine destroyed the pipeline either. Or did they? They seemed incapable of doing that.
American taxpayers have been carrying socialist Euroweinees on their backs since `1945. Let them take care of themselves.
From what I can see, the Euros have much in common with our American Dems. They both seem to have something comparable to behavior often associated with dysfunctional adolescents. It’s called “self-harm” or more clinically “self-mutilation.” It’s a misguided attempt to cope with feelings of anxiety, depression, or anger that seem unmanageable through other means. If such is the case, it doesn’t surprise me. The Left typically functions on an emotional level rather than an intellectual one. I’m no doctor, but I know unstable behavior when I see it.
Id say that when European countries allowed in massive muslim immigration and no go zones to form, that was a signal for US to cut aid to Europe, raise tariffs, and certainly not use US military to defend them. Who and what exactly would we be defending? Let them commit cultural suicide on their own dime.
