“They became victims of a violent crime for one reason. They were doing their job, and they were wearing a badge.”

That was Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey on the September 12 attack on two Sheriff’s deputies, shot multiple times at close range as they sat in their patrol car. Lacey is the first African American, and the first woman, to serve as district attorney in Los Angeles, the largest prosecution office in the United States.

Lacey is now being opposed by Black Lives Matter and white leftist billionaire George Soros, who in September ponied up another $2.5 million for her white opponent George Gascón, former district attorney of San Francisco. Democrat vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris also backs Gascón, and white Democrats supporting him include California governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti, who recently dropped his support for Lacey.

“I am proud to endorse George Gascón for District Attorney,” Garcetti said in a statement. “He knows how to promote public safety through partnerships with and beyond law enforcement,” and according to the mayor, it wasn’t just for LA. “George Gascón will help our county shift the burden from the criminal justice system and jails toward diversion, intervention, and re-entry programs that save money and save lives.” People across the country can have more than a reasonable doubt.

Gascón, 66, is a former Los Angeles police officer and chief of police in San Francisco. When district attorney Kamala Harris became state attorney general in 2010, then-mayor Gavin Newsom appointed Gascón district attorney despite his lack of prosecutorial experience.

Gascón is co-author of Proposition 47, essentially a license for criminals to steal nearly $1000 of property, causing car break-ins to surge across the state, particularly in San Francisco.

Gascón was district attorney in 2015 when a repeatedly deported Mexican criminal calling himself Jose Ines Garcia Zarate gunned down Kate Steinle on a San Francisco pier. Public defender Francisco Ugarte said the case was about “the rights of immigrants” and San Francisco let the Mexican off on everything but a gun charge. When President Trump criticized the verdict as a travesty of justice, Gascón called him a “madman.”

In 2018, billionaire George Soros was backing soft-on-crime district attorney candidates such as Noah Phillips in Sacramento. Phillips was defeated by incumbent Anne Marie Schubert, who prosecuted the Golden State killer and now leads a group of 24 female district attorneys supporting Jackie Lacey.

“She is a woman of dignity, fairness and grace who performs her duties with quiet professionalism and a deep sense of personal responsibility,” wrote Schubert in the California Globe on Thursday. Lacey, 63, joined the district attorney’s office in 1986 and in 1998 prosecuted white skinheads who beat a black homeless man to death with a tire iron. No one showed up for the victim, Schubert recalled, and “Jackie Lacey, alone, became his voice for justice.”

As Schubert notes, “she nearly tripled the number of cases charged against those who sell people, predominantly women and children, for sexual exploitation.” Lacey, who earned her JD at USC, also established a project to recruit ethnically and culturally diverse prosecutors. It wasn’t enough for George Soros, Black Lives Matter, Kamala Harris, and Eric Garcetti.

Earlier this year, Garcetti praised Lacey as “a smart, tremendously effective, and clear eyed” district attorney “who always puts the mission of advancing justice for all above everything else.” In the last seven years, Lacey prosecuted 21 police officers for excessive force, but that wasn’t enough for Black Lives Matter, whose protests of the district attorney were joined by white celebrity Madonna. For his part, Garcetti dropped support for the African American Lacey in favor of the white George Gascón. He wants to abolish cash bail, which could have drastic consequences in Los Angeles and beyond.

Police arrested Deonte Murray for the September 12 police shootings, and he was held on bail of $6.155 million. Murray had also been arrested for a carjacking in which he shot a man. If cash bail had been abolished, as Gascón desires, Murray would be quickly freed to continue shootings, carjackings and other crimes.

Stung by his 2018 loss in Sacramento, George Soros is going for the price on Gascón. Joining Soros are Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Eric Garcetti et al. In the leftist dialectic, a white male who wants to free violent criminals must replace an African American woman with a record of standing up to criminals. That includes those criminals who ambush police officers solely because “they were doing their job, and they were wearing a badge.”

Two police associations are endorsing Lacey, who was undisturbed by Garcetti’s endorsement shift from black to white.

“This is just George Gascón rolling out another politician endorsement to distract from his disastrous performance in last night’s debate,” Lacey said in a statement. “Gascón last night was asked for the first time about his policy advisors who called for abolishing prisons and who called for burning down the city, and his response was to defend their statements and confirm that they are still on his ‘all-star’ policy team. LA County voters care whether they’re safe, not about politician endorsements.”
