California’s ‘cage free’ egg ban came a the worst possible time to spike egg prices. On the other hand, it was a state move and the voters seemed to have voted for it. Traditionally a Republican administration wouldn’t have tried to weaponize federal authority to control prices in a state, in seeming contradiction to the wishes of the voters of the state, but Trump is not Mitt Romney.
And the Trump administration is right to fight California over the impact of its nuttiest animal rights measure on the lives of working families. Yes, states should be able to set their own laws, but should state governments really be able to effectively set egg prices, not only in the state, but out of it? Is there a role for the federal government in preventing state government abuses?
The real problem though is that California is in theory a democracy, in practice it’s rule by a small elite who get to advance their priorities and mostly get away with it. It’s a republic of the worst kind and despite the facade of a democracy, the job of the public is to rubber stamp the wishes of that small elite.
Some 7.5 million people voted for Proposition 12, which led to the Cage Free law, to effectively raise egg and protein prices on 40 million people in the state.
That’s not even 1 in 5.
And I won’t even delve into the question of how many of those votes were legitimate.
Finally, if Republicans want to make headway in California, they’ll have to show that they’re doing something. And Trump understands that taking on California’s abuses is a political winner.
Even to many in the state.

Those hens have access to free ranges but tend to stay in their pens. I saw a guy who owns those pens talk about it on TV. They don’t want to go out where Hawks, foxes and coyotes will eat them. They’re not stupid.
Yeah, lots of predators around. I see foxes a lot around here at night. Only saw a lion once. Saw a coyote walking up the street but he spotted me in 3 seconds, turned tail in alarm and loped away at top speed.
There are a lot of animal rights wackos around here, and court cases, since this is an agricultural area, but so far there is enough public opposition which has stopped the wackos to a large extent.
I see coyotes at night sometimes. At first I think they’re dogs but they don’t move like dogs and like you said, they tend to avoid people. I see them by the rivers here. There are at least three rivers here in San Jose.
I’ve seen a lot of racoons here. I’ve seen entire families of them trucking about Six or more at a time, sometimes with kits in tow. I have no idea where they sleep in the day. They’re clever animals. I saw one steal a Domino’s pizza once in Socal. The little guy just waited until the employees were in the front room and stole in the back and swiped some pizza. The little guy was afraid of me at first when I walked by and I thought it was a cat until I saw it’s glowing eyes and the way it clung to that tree.
Fucking racoons, man. I saw on one of those nature shows on TV that the ones who live in urban areas live longer than the ones in the wild. Personally I don’t think anybody could know something like that but the biggest and fattest one I ever saw was at Yosemite Park eating out of a trash can. He didn’t give a shit about the big people around. He just munched away.
I’ve heard that cougars live amongst us too, although the only one I’ve ever seen was in the high desert outside of Apple Valley. The bitch stalked me too, with two cubs. I guess she figured I was too big to chew on, though. I was in my twenties back then and not afraid of much of anything. I would have crushed her. My tetosterone levels were off the chart Still are, actually. 97 on the free testosterone scale. Not bad for an old guy,
Yeah, raccoons are extremely clever. I had decades of contests with them when I lived by the bay. A family of them had a home cliffside overlooking the bay where no one could get at them. They would eat the cats food if it was left outside. Once I came home late at night and was unloading groceries. I left a bag of avocado chips on top of my car for 30 seconds while I carried a bag of groceries inside. When I came back outside a raccoon was sitting on top of my car eating my chips 🙂
Marinites used to capture the San Quentin raccoons, drive across the bridge, and release them in my neighborhood. Locals here would do the same, capture the neighborhood raccoons, drive them across the bridge, and release them near San Quentin 🙂
That was also how Marin got rid of their homeless criminals. Drive them across the bridge and release them in my neighborhood. I would sometimes come across them late at night, as they wandered about aimlessly, lost in the unfamiliar environment. They would ask me for directions 🙂

Technically that’s true. To be classified as “cage free” the producer need only to cut a doorway in the warehouse for a chicken to fit through. Caged and cage free chickens get the same growth hormones and antibiotics injection and fed things that chicken do not eat in the wild. Then humans come along and eat that tainted chicken meat and eggs which is unhealthy over the long run.
You are what you eat and if you’re eating chickens full of growth hormones and antibiotics, guess what you’re full of?
If you want to at a healthy chicken and eggs, try eating organic pasture raised chicken that’s raised on a farm that practices regenerative farming. To get the USDA organic certification requires that farmers not use any hormones or antibiotics or pesticides in any of their products
Bottom line:
Industrial raised “food” is very unhealthy. Unfortunately, most people don’t know and don’t care until they’re afflicted with some life threatening metabolic disorder. For example: CKD, diabetes, NAFLD, pancreatitis, high blood pressure, arterial plaque, hardening of the arteries, obesity, heart problems, aneurysms, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, various cancers, etc., etc..
I’m not a big fried chicken fan but my girlfriends are. They’re black and black chicks love Southern fried chicken as much as those big hoop earrings and painted fingernails.
I’ve got to love them. I don’t like the chicken much, though.
I don’t eat anything fried. Fried foods are typically fried in seed oils and it would disgust you and make you puke if you know how seed oils are made and their original intended use (i.e., engine lubricant or engine oil substitute.)
I’m glad I don’t like fried food.
Is canola oil O.K.? I know olive oil is but it’s expensive so I ration it.

The difference between caged and cage-free hens is that the caged hens stand on wire all of their lives without room to move around or spread their wings. Proverbs 12:10, “The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel”.

What is cage free in California is the lunatics are running the asylum – they got out of their cages – When I get cage free eggs that are brown or blue or other colors, the egg shells are tougher and the yolk bolder color – do I physically notice a difference? What I do know egg prices are down since President Trump has been back in office – It’s a no brainer that capitalism works and to get these fuck heads out of office is to vote Republican straight across the ballot and know in that bunch there is going to be RINOs as well as political hack lying whackos –
I lived most of my life in California and part of the public school system I was indoctrinated – then I grew up and started paying attention and learning on my own I knew the core of my problem was the bullshit of California school system where everyone came out the same rum-dumb even if they ended up with a bachelor degree or more –
So what was different about me?
