The old Jihad gang’s coming together. Mission accomplished.
You’ll see some in the conservative media billing this as a big surprise. What’s worse is that it’s not. People just weren’t paying attention.
Former aide of Osama Bin Laden, and senior Al-Qaeda leader, Amin-ul-Haq returned to his hometown in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Monday, August 30, after the province and the rest of the country fell to the Taliban, 15 days ago. Sources believe that Amin-ul-Haq was a close aide to former al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, who was killed by US forces in Pakistan’s Abbottabad in 2011.
Specifically, the UN’s sanctions list for Al Qaeda and ISIS stated it.
Amin Muhammad Ul Haq Saam Khan was listed on 25 January 2001 pursuant to paragraph 8 (c) of resolution 1333 (2000) as being associated with Al-Qaida, Usama bin Laden or the Taliban for “participating in the financing, planning, facilitating, preparing or perpetrating of acts or activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf or in support of”, “supplying, selling or transferring arms and related materiel to” or “otherwise supporting acts or activities of” Usama bin Laden and Al-Qaida (QDe.004).
Amin Muhammad Ul Haq Saam Khan coordinated security for Usama bin Laden (deceased).
This is great news as the Biden administration discusses how it can partner with the Taliban to fight Islamic terrorism.
Amin-ul-Haq was the security in charge of Osama bin Laden in Tora Bora and became close to him in the 80s when he worked with Abdullah Azzam in Maktaba Akhidmat.
It is pertinent to note here that as a part of the Doha Agreement, the Taliban had assured the United States that it will not host or allow the al-Qaeda and Islamic State terrorist groups to operate in the areas under their control.
Since al-Huq was at Doha, the point is rather moot.
Haq is today a prominent figure in the Afghan Taliban working in its prisoner commission, which collects details about Taliban prisoners in Afghan jails. He was also in negotiations with the U.S. in Qatar on the sidelines of Taliban-U.S. talks for the release of thousands of Taliban prisoners.
“Many al-Qaida members got Afghan citizenship during the tenure of mujahedeen leader Burhanuddin Rabbani, and they now call themselves Afghan nationals,” said Haq.
Much as in Libya, Al Qaeda Jihadists were whitewashed as a more generic form of Islamic Jihadis.
A top Osama aide was working on the Taliban’s prisoner commission. Al Qaeda Arab terrorists became identified as Afghans and then likely as Taliban paving the way for their release.
Negotiating with the Taliban, like any other Jihadist group, was a dead end that leads to only one possible place.
Haq served in several official positions in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nangarhar, which borders Pakistan, when the Taliban ruled most of Afghanistan from Kandahar in the south from 1996 to 2001.
Haq said that what remains of al-Qaida would most probably fall in line with Taliban instructions. He said, however, that the Taliban might allow al-Qaida and other foreign militants to resume operations on Afghan soil if the U.S. keeps “violating” the Doha Agreement signed in February last year for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Afghanistan.
“Al-Qaida, like any group, looks carefully at the situation,” Haq told Nikkei. “If its leaders think keeping silent and adopting a low profile works best, they will keep quiet. But if they consider an active role as benefiting them, then they will resurface.”
1. al-Haq’s return is not big news. It was inevitable all along.
2. The Taliban integrated Al Qaeda into its setup. Al Qaeda will continue engaging in terrorism and the Taliban will blame that on America. Or they’ll outsource it to ISIS-K or whatever other Jihadist groups will be seen as the outliers.
3. Afghanistan will continue to be an incubator for Jihadist groups.
4. Any negotiations with the Taliban or any other Jihadists are worthless. The concept of negotiating in good faith with infidels does not exist in Islam. Jihad remains the highest value which means that the only purpose of the negotiations is to figure out how the Jihad will continue while its perpetrators collect any protection money and concessions that the infidels are willing to make.
And we have yet to learn that simple lesson after a generation of appeasement ending the same way.
