Why did the Supreme Court reject out of hand a theory that the former president could be disqualified from appearing on state ballots because individual Democrat state officials decided, on their own, that he was an insurrectionist?
Because it was a ridiculous fringe theory.
Justice Sotomayor tried and failed to rally fellow lefty justices to get behind much of a dissent.
In the end, the justices agreed that states can’t just decide federal elections based on their own whims. The outcome was obvious even if once again the Mueller die hards lied to their base about the outcome.
But that’s not really good news.
The Supreme Court 9-0 shot down a fringe leftist conspiracy theory that leftists decided to implement in multiple states.
This is the trend going forward.
The Left will keep pushing the Overton Window knowing that the norms have to play defense and will eventually lose. That is how fanatics operate. Beginning with Obama, Democrats suddenly decided that previously unthinkable things were now thinkable. That is how we ended up with ObamaCare. It’s how we ended up with DACA. And a raft of other things.
The Supreme Court stopped this particular overreach, but it failed to stop and went along with plenty of others.
Fighting a giant nest of hornets is a precarious venture. One can choose to tackle them haphazardly and individually, allowing multiple stings in the process as they swat, or one can go on the offensive with a backpack sprayer full of gasoline and a match. One simply sprays, strikes the match, toss it, close the Overton window and watch as they burn. The tree might get singed in the process, but sometimes that’s the price of success.
If Republican politicians are unable or unwilling to go on the offensive, they are as useful as the hornet and should be treated accordingly so that true bug killers can be employed.

Yes, the Democ-rats are intent on destroying “our democracy” in order to save it. Present posturing notwithstanding, the only thing destined for destruction here is the Democ-rat political party. Democ-rats were the object of the original insurrection language in the constitution. Never forget that the white Democ-rats who owned slaves are the progenitors of today’s Democ-rat proponents of DEI and other race-hustling public policies. Race equals power to Democ-rats. Don’t tell anybody, but white Democ-rats hate white people.
Given any kind of opening or excuse, Roberts and one or two “conservative” justices will waffle, equivocate, posture, and either (1) punt, or (2) deliver an inscrutable result that ignores the Constitution and relevant statutes.

It, and the interesting image for the article reminded me of a funny meme, that said “Stuck this to a window and now the world makes more sense.” The window, looking out to the sky, a small apartment building, and a park, that had the “Directed by David Lynch,” from one of his movies printed on clear plastic stuck to it.
