The trial of former President Donald Trump is heading toward a conclusion. For those who at the beginning thought the case was weak and politically motivated, the presentation of the prosecution’s evidence has made it seem even weaker and more politically motivated. A conviction will not change that.
On the other side, though, some in the anti-Trump world who were originally skeptical about the case’s merits have come to believe that it is actually stronger than they first thought. That was not necessarily because the case is actually stronger, but because, as events unfolded, it became clear that the current trial, in which Manhattan Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg alleges that Trump committed bookkeeping offenses as part of a conspiracy to corrupt the 2016 presidential election, represents Democrats’ only chance to try Trump, to possibly convict him, and perhaps even to imprison him before the election in November.
“Not all that long ago, I thought that the trial currently being held … seemed the least serious of the cases against him,” wrote George Conway, the conservative-lawyer-turned-Joe-Biden-megadonor, in The Atlantic earlier this month. “But I feel the need to admit error. The truth is, I’ve come around to the view that People v. Trump is, in at least some ways, the perfect case to put Trump in the dock for the first time, and — I hope, but we’ll see — perhaps prison.”
Why is that? Conway, one of the more aggressive members of the anti-Trump Resistance, wrote that he now believes the Manhattan case perfectly exposed what he says are Trump’s myriad lies. But for the Resistance, the most salient fact about the Manhattan trial is this: It is happening. It is getting done before the election, which is the most important consideration for Democrats who pray that a Trump conviction could change the dynamics of a presidential race in which Trump currently leads Biden.
The other cases against Trump seem lost in legal never-never land. The Resistance’s favorite case, special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of Trump over the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, is awaiting two critical Supreme Court rulings and seems unlikely to go to trial before the election. The second-favorite case, Smith’s indictment over classified documents, is lost in procedural complexities. And the final indictment, the one that, like the current case, was brought by a local prosecutor — Fulton County Democratic District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia — seems to be a total mess.
But the current case, brought by Bragg, who, incidentally, won office in deep-blue Manhattan on a promise to pursue Trump, is a reality. If you really want to bring down Trump, some anti-Trumpers believe, who cares if it is weak? Who cares if it is politically motivated? Trump is “a criminal” who “basically tried to destroy American democracy,” Conway said in an interview last week. “And whatever they can get him for is fine with me.”
Whatever they can get him for is fine with me. That is perhaps the most succinct and direct explanation for the wave of Democratic lawfare we have seen in the runup to the 2024 vote. The cases are all over the place, four prosecutions in all, at the county level, the federal level, in New York, Washington, D.C. and Georgia. For more than a year, it has been obvious that they represent a redundant effort against Trump; if one case falters, another might succeed. And if one or two or three cases falter, the fourth might still break through.
And that is what has happened in Manhattan. Just as some of the anti-Trump trial skeptics thought in the beginning, the end of testimony and the arrival of closing arguments have highlighted the flaws in the case. One analyst on CNN’s pro-prosecution coverage said, “The crime here is not easy to explain or understand.” On MSNBC’s even more pro-prosecution coverage, another analyst said, “It is difficult because it’s a very nuanced argument. … It’s never been prosecuted before.” If charges are so byzantine that it is hard to convince reasonable people that a crime even occurred, then maybe Manhattan prosecutors should not have charged Trump with 34 felony counts that could result in a maximum of 136 years in prison over what is basically a bookkeeping matter. But such is the state of our justice system today.

The left has BIG plans as vowed by Obama–to “fundamentally change America.” They MUST convict Trump at any cost because trillions are at stake. They have probably already bought the jurors with a few paltry million each. That should do it–or threat of some horror. Convict or choose Door #2 where Hillary’s henchmen reside.
Surely Trump has hired many investigators to look at all their Social Media, before and after. Then if they discussed the case, watched/radio any news on the trial. They also will be on many news shows saying how they reached a verdict, and since they’re preaching to the choir, they’ll feel safe and boisterous to enhance themselves, and they’ll surely slip up. All this for an appeal of jury misconduct, case dismissed.

When President Trump gets the Jeffrey Epstein treatment in a NY City lock-up (suicide, said Bill Barr) then the way will be clear for fake conservatives to vote for Ron DeSantis. He’s Trump without the baggage (or the noose) they say. Of course, they know that Ron DeSantis hasn’t a snowball’s chance in Hades of winning the White House. You see, losing to Democ-rats is the essence of fake conservatism. Indeed, they are Democ-rats by another name.

Because DeSantis’ win-loss electoral record of 5-0 is somehow or other worse than Trump’s 1-1?

Democrats are good at “Over-Whelming the System!” Voter fraud by the thousands, over-whelms the system and the FBI just throws their hands up, “We give. How do we prosecute thousands?” So, they’ll cheat again especially knowing that the FBI helps them cheat!
Unequal application of the law basically means there is no law. Bragg, Merchan, et al are proving the political left in this country is right up there with Stalin when they say we are a nation of laws.

Just whose ‘democracy’ is Trump a threat to? Cuba? Russia? Venezuela? Iran? North Korea? Mexico? There are dozens more around the world, but the United States isn’t one of them. We are a Constitutional Republic. The word democracy doesn’t appear in the US Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. It doesn’t appear because the Founding Fathers knew that a democracy always leads to tyranny. Always.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the republican establishment hates Trump as more if not more than democrats. To them, Trump’s sin was to follow through or at least try to follow through on all his campaign promises which made the republican establishmentarians look bad because it’s something they almost never do.
Their MO is the same as the democrats. That is, tell whatever lies and promises that need to be told to get elected and then once elected, disappear into the insularity of Washington DC and conduct business as usual (e.g., spending and giving away tax payers money while enriching themselves.)
And we the American suckers, uh…, I mean American people, get the “privilege” of footing the bill for it all and suffer any and all the consequences thereof. And then based on party loyalty, we defend those grifters and reelect them. It’s fair to say that American deserve the politicians they elects and all the lies and BS that comes with them.
But don’t mind me. I’m just someone who got tired of all the lies and BS years ago and voting for the same people over and over again and expecting a different result. People like me (an independent) are to be scorned and ignored for not acquiescing to some nebulous twaddle otherwise known as political dogma.
IF Trump went to jail, his Secret Service details goes with him, forever. But the reality is that he if he is sentenced to jail, let the fun and games begin. We are the silent majority. We’re not the self-aggrandizing, self-absorbed, narcissistic little twits like the Comrades on the Left have become. And all I can say is may their God (or not) bless their little souls when they truly learn the meaning of the word transition.

The Dems have turned our justice system into that of a 3rd World Nation. Dems today, like Fidel Castro did in Cuba, i.e., he used their justice system to destroy opposition. Same with Chavez and now Maduro in Venezuela. Same with Mao, Pol Pot, and almost every dictator. Leftists the World over abuse justice by going after their opposition with the nation’s justice system. Thus, we have Biden and Garland using America’s DOJ to go after Trump. Dems/leftists are clearly fascist bullies that deserve to finally be on the receiving end of America’s former great DOJ.
It’s a sad commentary on the left’s voters when they, like this Conway guy, are fine with contorting the justice system to eliminate their political opponents. It shows what they really think of law and order. IMO, this is proof our Republic is in its end times. Too many people don’t understand why a Republic was created in favor of a Democracy and they don’t care as long as their guy wins. I can only describe them as ignorant, immoral and vindictive. Their mindset makes them the perfect target for a malevolent tyrant.
This is nothing new, democrats have always used the courts to destroy political enemies. They used trumped-up charges to get rid of Tom Delay of Texas and Ted Stevens of Alaska, and now Donald Trump. Delay’s and Stevens convictions were both overturned. This latest political hit job will fail mightily for the Dems.

The Manhattan, NY jury is so diabolically anti-Trump they will probably also convict Trump’s lawyers.
To me, this is an obvious potential sentence rendered by a 1930’s lynch mob-but instead of lynching an African-American they intend to lynch Trump.
It is beyond irony (and tragedy) that the person leading the lynch mob (Alvin Bragg, the DA for Manhattan) is African-American himself.
Bragg has nothing whatsoever to do with Africa so why call him an African American as I have never heard anybody call Trump a European American.

Conway must have had an emotional breakdown at some point.
There is two possibilities of them putting Trump in jail: 1) Trump’s poll numbers jump high in all states including the Blue States he is losing now, 2) this triggers CW2 with attacks on Dems, DAs, DOJs, and Judges that have been not supporting the law.
Or to keep him from campaigning beyond the cell block.

That word “nuanced.” There isn’t an effing thing that is nuanced about this farce. If it were on Broadway, it would flop.
