On behalf of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, we are very saddened to announce the passing of the Center’s founder, David Horowitz. After a lengthy battle with cancer, David passed yesterday at the age of 86.
The Freedom Center’s founder and guiding force was a relentless conservative warrior who survived a previous brush with death (chronicled in his book Mortality and Faith), confrontations with the Black Panthers, campus radicals, government investigations, death threats, and hate campaigns, some led by his former friends and allies, without ever considering giving up or letting up. Nothing short of the end that comes for us all could silence his voice. He continued writing, working, and steering the Center to the very last; his final article, “The Biggest Lie of All,” appeared earlier this month.
Although he was a giant in the conservative liberty movement for over 40 years, David was raised a Marxist and was one of the leading intellectuals of the New Left movement at Berkeley in the 1960’s. But David, along with his writing partner and Freedom Center co-founder Peter Collier, eventually had a political epiphany and joined the side of freedom in the early 1980‘s. They committed the second half of their lives and work warning Americans of the dangers of the Progressives whose intellectual roots and totalitarian aims they understood better than many Leftists themselves.
David’s legacy is vast and the number of people that he inspired, mentored, and impacted is incalculable. That we live in a world today where there is a fighting chance of defeating the Leftist utopians who would enslave us is due in no small measure to the rare courage and unflagging passion that exemplified David’s work these past 40 years.
Over the years, David became something of a Saul Alinsky for the conservative movement, shaking a complacent Right out of its sleep and reinventing it as a war machine, laying out the strategies and principles for defeating the Left in too many bestselling books, articles, and pamphlets to count.
David’s message to the conservative movement was that it needed to abandon its habit of embracing noble failure and instead fight to win. Indeed, Donald Trump’s MAGA movement was shaped and guided by David and his disciples like Stephen Miller. And while his passing is an incalculable loss, David lived long enough to see his ideas and tactics become the heart and soul of a new movement to take back America.

I read Radical Son. David Horowitz brought clarity to understanding the dangers of just simply reading Marxist literature, and where it led him to. He tried to clean up academia. He was a necessity for keeping America on the right path in politics, and doing so in the university. He will be missed.
Radical Son is what I’ll always remember about David Horowitz.
His transformation was on a level with Thomas Merton in The Seven Story Mountain or Augustine in Confessions.
It was a gift.
Credit to David for breaking away from communism and pivoting to conservatism. I agree’d with David and many of the authors here the majority of the time. However, David was wrong about Candace Owens and Tucker calling them antisemitic for questioning Israel and wanting to drag Americans into wars. David was blindly pro Israel like many of the authors here.
BTW, the moderation here is awful. Why is every comment on hold for review? It’s absurd. The most benign comments are either on hold, or never make it and I’ve had some removed.

“Blessing Israel” is not synonymous with being involved in every war in the Middle East.
Tucker and Candace are not anti-Semitic in my opinion.
And being an Evangelical Christian should give some perspective on the above statement.
Except Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson are rabidly anti-Semitic. Tucker thinks the Jews created the Holocaust and Candace thinks the Jews run the world. Both sorry tropes. One from Russia ; Protocols of the Elders of Zion and the other straight up modern anti-Semitic. They are not critical of Israel. They both promote the lie that Jews are in control and are at fault for nearly all of the world’s ills. And both are as Christian as Kanye West.
I do not believe Tucker is Anti-Semitic. Tucker does not believe in American involvement in just about ANY countries wars. (IMO naive..) He has visited and states he loves Israel and the people. Disagreeing with Netanyahu is not anti-Semitic.
C. Owens is another story. She said the most outlandish provability false statements and refused to correct them. She may be Anti-Semitic. I don’t know her, but digging your heels in when proven wrong is stupidity.
The books Radical Son and Destructive. Generation changed my life. They helped me recognize the deceptive nature of so-called progressives and the path they were on. Truth matters but we must first realize that there is such a thing. David Horowitz helped our country in both of those.

I met David here in Albuquerque in the late ’80s. I was heavily into investigating CPUSA front groups who were aiding the Sandinistas acting like Peacemakers who were then aiding the Communist FMLN Rebels in El Salvador. I met with Arkady Shevchenko, the highest-ranking Soviet defector and spoke with Stanislav Levchenko, a KGB defector, on the radio. Both were mentioning the danger of the CPUSA FRONTS, mainly the KGB’s World Peace Council, the U.S. Peace Council/CPUSA, and state and university chapters.
THOSE CPUSA FRONTS divided into ANSWER, The Party for Socialism and Liberation, The Revolutionary Communist Party, all who organize today’s protests including now supporting HAMAS. Then the ACLU/NLG now filing lawsuits on behalf of ILLEGALS, EVEN TERRORISTS!
I KEPT DAVID INFORMED about Albuquerque’s radicals from MARK RUDD to ’60s Black Panther, David Hilliard, hired by UNM to teach about Hip-Hop (? All the people in the classroom were elderly, probably ’60s traitors…. learning about Hip-Hop in the Culture or reliving their treasonous Glory Days?) with both giving speeches at UNM. David was still bitter at the death of his friend, BETTY VAN PATTER, who he suspected was killed by the Black Panthers. Still unsolved.
DID THE ACLU EVER FIGHT FOR DAVID’S FREE SPEECH RIGHTS ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES? They fought to allow Iran’s Ahmadinejad’s Free Speech at Columbia… and he only wanted to “wipe Israel off the Map!” No major protests, no disruptions… BUT FOR DAVID?
DAVID, WE WILL CONTINUE YOUR BATTLE WITH MORE VIGOR!
David spoke here in Albuquerque, I think, back in the 90s, or early 2000s, It was a blessing to have both seen and read him.
Yes, I loved David as a wonderful knowledgeable leader of common sense people. He wrote great books in addition pamphlets of now meaningful information thus showing his leadership and awareness of the times. He was the most informed person I have ever known. I loved him, worshiped him and he filled my heart since the day I walked into his office off Bancroft way in Berkeley, to sell him some window blinds. What a very fine man, human being,…with soul.
His passing leaves a hole in our hearts. His compassion for liberty and the conservative movement, only gives us determination to continue his legacy.
He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten

David Horowitz’s quest for the truth was unshakable – and unparalleled among intellectuals in an immature world where herd-mentalities, lack of independence and ignorance are predominant. Via his profound writings and speeches, emminated a sacred-like voice of inspiration, wisdom and morality for those who wete lucky enough to aquaint themselves with his books and FPM. His love of humanity reverberated throughout the world, reaching out and inspiring a vast array of loyal readers everywhere. Through his unrelenting quest for the truth, Horowitz, unlike others, was able to see things and analyze events on a much deeper level than most, and his fearless mindset enabled him to naturally and easily adapt and change (such as his transition from a Marxist to a conservative) – a feat that others so rarely accomplish. Righteous people everywhere will sorely miss David Horowitz!
David Horowitz has been a great teacher for me and so many others.
He’ll be missed by so many of us who never met him yet benefited from his teaching and writing.

He was a tireless warrior and fabulous friend. As he was one of my late husband’s best friends, I spent many hours as a grasshopper at the table during their cerebral discussions. May he rest in peace. 💞
He’s dead? Fuck! I disagreed with him sometimes and he used this venue to agree or disagree with me a few times personally, which I respect and admire, but he was a good man. I knew he was old but I didn’t know he was sick. I’m not self centered but I am hurt. and I prayed for his family and friends.

I discovered Mr Horowitz in the mid 1980’s. His journey out leftist is fascinating.
I am very saddened and shocked by this sudden news, but I have no doubt that David’s principles and beliefs will live on in the many contributors to this website and their other writings.

Dear Lord, thank you for giving me the strength and the conviction to complete the task you entrusted to me. Thank you for guiding me straight and true through the many obstacles in my path. And for keeping me resolute when all around seemed lost. Thank you for your protection and your many signs along the way.
Thank you for any good that I may have done. Thank you for finally allowing me to rest. I’m so very tired, but I go now to my rest at peace. Knowing that I have done right with my time on this earth. I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith.

My mom got me interested in Mr. Horowitz’s writing years ago. She passed away last September after a battle with Alzheimer’s. May they both Rest in Peace, and may their noble values live on in all of us.

A website I have belonged to since 2009, a group of dedicate “moms” fighting tyranny, has found Discover the Networks to be one of its most valuable tools in our good fight. Also Front Page Mag, an excellent resource for news.
David was one of our heroes and he will forever be remembered as a purveyor of truth.

A GREAT man and one of my biggest heroes. His books have definitely helped shape my political viewpoint and I have constantly cited his work in MANY debates with leftists. Like St. Paul he changed direction in the midst of his life, but made up for lost time by creating books, lectures, Frontpage mag and the Freedom Center. He has influenced and helped MILLIONS and will continue to do so till the end of time.

A militant we can’t afford to lose whose origin story on how he became conservative is one of great interest.
My favorite part is how much he began to hate the communists that came to his house because they could never enjoy the outdoors or the sunshine in California. They wore black socks and sandals and didn’t go outside which denoted failure as a human being to him.
FrontPageMag was by far the best website to read in the days and months following Sept 11, 2001. No other website in 2001 talked about Islamic terrorism, and Islam in-general, as frankly as FPM.
Jihadwatch.org was also invaluable in its reportage of Muslim terrorism. I discovered Jihad Watch before I became aware of the existence of Front Page Magazine.

My sister asked me to read a speech by Noam Chomsky which was obviously Marxist propaganda. That led me to DH and Collier’s “Anti-Chomsky Reader,” which got me hooked on Horowitz. What incredible literary output! What a contribution to America! Few if any have done what he has done to preserve it. –AGF.

I am thankful he lived long enough to see some of the fruits of his labor. He traded an easy life on the left for intellectual honesty. If he had stayed left he would probably have 8 Pulitzers and $600 million in USAID money by now. RIP David a great hero of mine.

I am shocked and devastated by the news. I was a leftie and one time just as David Horowitz was. Our family even had some copies of “Ramparts” magazine and Che Guevara’s diary.
What a wonderful person. What an incredible transformation and evolvement during his lifetime.. So sad to hear this.

I am heartbroken.
As a college sophomore, I subscribed to “Ramparts” when David founded the magazine. By graduation, I had learned from what I’d seen of the anti-Vietnam War and the Black Power movements on my small Ohio campus the totalitarian and inhumane character of the “New Left”. David came to see it as well and became a leader in the fight to expose and defeat it. Requiescam in pace.
Milton Friedman, Rush and David Horowitz are my top three personal mentors. Thank you all.

In the late 90’s I worked at a local LA political show where David was periodically a guest panel member. The show itself normally dragged on and on but not when he was given the opportunity to speak. Always concise, knowledgeable, and at times humorous. May he rest in peace.
What a patriot and truth teller he was!! I remember an exchange he had at one lecture with a young Muslim woman at one of his lectures. He openly stated that Islam was subversive of American values. Thank you for your inspiring efforts through the decades.

I was lucky to have a conversation with Mary Matalin many years ago, and she suggested that I could like reading Radical Son. I’ve been among David’s disciples ever since. He is one of my greatest heroes in my life. “Courage” and “Resolute” come to mind… and his case, I would even use the term “Conviction” — because he’s seen it both ways. I only with I could learn how to persuade a few hardline lib friends and family — I simply pray. I LOVE David – thank you so much!

Though I never met David Horowitz, I feel as though I’ve lost an intellectual and ideological mentor.
Years ago, when David’s daughter died, he remarked that she might have been a Lamed Vovnik, one of the hidden 36 righteous persons who by tradition support the whole world. I emailed him that the condition might be hereditary, and he might be one himself. He was kind enough to reply, and we shared some cancer experiences. Well, I think I was right. I believe he was a Lamed Vovnik, who turned a radical upbringing into a life that was beneficial to all humanity. Rest well, David, you earned it.
I came upon FPM after 10-7-2023 – there is fake news then there is the fake news of antisemitism that became fashionable and vogue after the genocide massacre in Israel 10-7-2023. Where was a senior citizen American born 100% Hebrew DNA Yeshua Messiah believer supposed to find gravitas and truth in this holocaust of terror and antisemitism that has become fashionable and vogue and apparently seething in even self loathing Jews who have lost their identity since the diaspora.
My morning routines are opening FPM and then the The Times of Israel. As well as getting the truth on the MAGA movement that has begun and uphill battle since 2016.
As lonsman David Horowitz now with YHVH is probably seeing, there is a war in Heaven being waged here on Earth and as we get closer to the culmination of this millennia long war, things are indeed waxing worse and worse for those who clearly do not understand because they refuse to be educated to the truth!
I find little to disagree with the writers and editors of FPM.
Seeing the news just now about David Horowitz I indeed felt a twinge of a pang of hurt and heart sadness at David’s passing onto Glory.
The war continues with us here on earth and we will prevail because this is THE WILL OF YHVH!

I have been reading David Horowitz since the first edition of “Destructive Generation” followed by his newspaper by mail, “Heterodoxy,” This site of his has the stamp of his unique value.
